Vermilion County Covid 19 update 1/14/22

Just a few updates.  We continue to see a surge in cases.  We have had 3,170 new cases in the last 14 days, which is a record.  For all other data sets, please go to our website: www.vchd.org

As sent out yesterday, contact tracing has been moved to the centralized contact tracing surge center.  Vermilion County Health Department will NOT be issuing any COVID19 release back to work/school letters due to this transition as of today, January 13th.    See the General public and specific settings for how long someone should be out.  Last day of exposure for a close contact is day 0.  If you test positive, the onset of symptoms or positive test, whichever comes first, is day 0.

I hate to even mention forecasting since this virus decides to do its own thing, but I think we could all use a little bit of hope.  So, it looks like it is possible that in another week or two we could peak and start to see fewer cases.  Other areas that were first hit are seeing their cases begin to go down.  Please hang in there as Omicron is showing that it is definitely more contagious, but is not as severe as Delta for most people.  This doesn’t mean that we can all throw our masks off and stop all mitigations.  It is important to support our healthcare system, not break it.    We have seen a lot more reinfections than we ever have and more cases of those who are vaccinated.  The majority of new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths still remain with the unvaccinated.  Please protect yourself and those around you.  We all have an impact.

Here’s the latest in how quickly Omicron has spread across the United States.
