The Iroquois County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate an early-morning incident in Loda that left one person hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the head.

The gunshot victim, whose name was not immediately released, was in critical condition Wednesday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The news release said a 911 call was made from a residence in Loda during the early morning Wednesday asking for an ambulance for a person who was bleeding from the head. Upon paramedics’ arrival, it was discovered the person had suffered a gunshot wound, the release said. The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition, the release said.

The sheriff’s office requested assistance at the scene from the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit, the release said.

No other details were released.

“This is an isolated incident,” the release said, “and there is no threat to the community.”
