Danville Man sentenced today to twelve years

Eric Lang, formerly of Danville Illinois, pleaded guilty and was sentenced today to twelve (12) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. In 2021 CF 306, Lang pleaded guilty to one count of burglary (a class 2 felony), for which he was sentenced to three (3) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. In 2021 CF 314, Lang pleaded guilty to one count of robbery-victim over 60 years of age (a class 1 felony) for which he was sentenced to nine (9) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. These sentences are consecutive and the defendant will have to serve one year of mandatory supervised release after completion of her entire sentence.

During the plea, Judge Derek Girton heard stipulated facts that on June 2, 2021, Lang took personal items from a deceased victim's home. Lang confessed after he was taken into custody. While in custody at the Vermilion County Jail on June 5, 2022, Lang lured a custodian into a remote area of the jail, beat him up, and stole his clothes, communications equipment and keys. Lang then attempted to escape the jail by impersonating an employee, but was quickly exposed as an imposter during his ill-conceived plant.

"We are thankful for the hard work of all the staff at the Vermilion County Jail and we will continue to ensure that those who threaten their safety are swiftly brought to justice," stated State's Attorney Jacqueline Lacy.
