The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 3 vehicle crash on State Route 1 at 15th Street, at the North end of Georgetown at approximately 12:16PM on 10/15/25.   The investigation shows that 3 vehicles were traveling southbound when the rear vehicle tried to pass the middle vehicle.  This vehicle then rear-ended the front vehicle.  The passing vehicle then crossed into the northbound lane and struck a northbound vehicle head-on.  The passing vehicle had 3 occupants and the other two vehicles each had 1 occupant.  One person from the vehicle that was passing the other vehicles was pronounced deceased at the scene.  All other persons involved were transported to the hospital by ambulance.  The crash is still under investigation by the sheriff’s department and the Vermilion County Coroner’s office.The Vermilion County Coroner, Jane McFadden stated that a motor vehicle accident involving three vehicles southbound on State Route 1 this afternoon resulted in the death of 51-year-old Michael L. Vermillion, of Danville.

Mr. Vermillion’s family has been notified and an autopsy is scheduled for the end of the week. The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Office and the Vermilion County Coroner’s office continue to investigate
