ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF MULTI-DAY ENFORCEMENT DETAIL IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS

The Illinois State Police (ISP) conducted a multi-agency enforcement detail on May 4-9, 2026 in central Illinois focusing its efforts in Macon, Champaign, and Vermilion counties. ? The operation utilized aerial surveillance, intra agency collaboration, and technology to target known high fatality crash areas, high crime areas, organized violent offenders, and criminal groups using interstate systems to facilitate crime.

On May 6, 2026, Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an Illinois Vehicle Code (IVC) violation. Officers recovered a stolen firearm and suspected heroin from a passenger. The passenger, a convicted felon, was booked into the Macon County Jail for Armed Violence, Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Weapon by a Gang Member, Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of Heroin Under 5 Grams, and sex offender violations.

 
 

 
On May 7, 2026, Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an IVC. The vehicle fled the traffic stop and the driver later fled from officers on foot. Air Operations successfully tracked the driver and officers were able to take him into custody. During a search, officers found two firearms along with suspected cannabis and ecstasy. The driver, a convicted felon, was booked into the Macon County Jail for Armed Violence, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Felony Offender, Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, and other traffic offences.

 
 

 
ISP patrol officers from Troops 4, 5, 6, and 7, ISP Zone 5 special agents, ISP Air Operations, ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau, ISP Central Special Operations Group, East Central Illinois Task Force, Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group, Champaign Police Department, Danville Police Department, Decatur Police Department, Macon County Sheriff’s Office, Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, and the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department all participated in the multi-day enforcement detail.

 
 

 
ISP will continue to use all available resources, including air operations, technology, forensic services, investigators, increase patrols, and information sharing to combat violent crime.
