On August 11, 2026, Christopher Mattison (DOB: 8/11/1984), formerly of Hoopeston, IL, 
pleaded guilty to Possession with Intent to Deliver Controlled Substance, a class 1 felony, and 
was sentenced to 6 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Following his term of 
imprisonment, Mattison will serve one year of mandatory supervised release. The plea and 
sentencing were presided over by Judge Mark S. Goodwin. 
The People presented evidence that on January 3, 2026, an officer with the Hoopeston Police 
Department conducted a traffic stop for a violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code. The driver, 
identified as Christopher Mattison, told the officer that he did not have identification with him 
but provided a debit card bearing his full name. Hoopeston dispatch confirmed that Mattison’s 
driver’s license was revoked. Mattison was subsequently arrested and searched. During the 
search, officers recovered a clear plastic baggie from his front pants pocket containing a white, 
powdery substance that field-tested positive for cocaine. Officers also searched a bag Mattison 
was carrying across his chest. Inside the bag, they recovered a grocery bag containing $3,728 in 
United States currency and an unmarked pill bottle containing white capsules that field-tested 
positive for cocaine. Before the vehicle was towed, officers conducted a search of the vehicle. 
From the area of the driver’s seat, they recovered a small, clear plastic baggie containing a white, 
chunky, powdery substance that field-tested positive for cocaine. Officers also recovered an open 
bottle of Hennessy alcohol from a bag behind the driver’s seat and a small digital scale from 
inside a duffle bag. The suspected cocaine was submitted to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab 
for testing and subsequently returned positive results for cocaine.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the Hoopeston Police Department for apprehending 
this defendant and removing illegal drugs from the community. She stated, “Illegal drugs pose a 
serious threat to the citizens of Vermilion County. Our office will continue to work closely with 
law enforcement to hold individuals who distribute illegal drugs accountable and to protect the 
safety of our community.”
