Daniel V. Houmes, 75, of Hoopeston, IL

Daniel Vinson Houmes, 75, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 5:01 A.M. Saturday December 29, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  He was born February 23, 1943, in Danville, IL, the son of George Edward and Edith Pauline (Jaynes) Houmes.  His father survives in Corpus Christy, TX.  He married Sandra Hodge on February 23, 1962.  She survives in Hoopeston.

He is also survived by one daughter, Georgina Houmes Metzler and her fiancé Doug James of Broken Arrow, OK; two sons, Dan B. (Cindy) Houmes of Phoenix, AZ; and Doug (Donna) Houmes of Vail, AZ; one sister, Gayle Houmes Rush of South Bethany Beach, DE; one brother, Chip (Cindy) Houmes of Hoopeston, IL; four grandchildren, Danielle Root, Adria Banas, Ridge Houmes, and Braze Houmes; three great-grandchildren, Jubilee, Boaz, and Phoebe Root; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Houmes; and one granddaughter, Samantha Metzler.

Daniel farmed his family’s farm for forty years.  He served as the Supervisor of Prairie Green Township for twenty-six years, was a member and past president of the Wellington Lion’s Club, and was a lifetime member of the NRA.  He enjoyed model railroads, watching western movies, drinking coffee with his friends in Wellington, and spending time with his family.

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday January 4, 2019 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday January 5, 2019 at the funeral home, with Rev. Dustin Wells officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Roger Dale Arms Sr., 53, of Hoopeston

Roger Dale Arms Sr., 53, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 7:59 A.M. Thursday December 27, 2018 in Ambia, IN.  He was born April 3, 1965, in Bloomington, IN, the son of Junior F. and Nellie (Capps) Arms.

He married Barbara Arms and together they had four children, Jessica Lynn Arms of Hoopeston, IL, Ashley Nichole Arms (Andy Cornelius) of Hoopeston, IL, Roger Dale Arms Jr. of Ambia, IN and Brandon Dale Arms of Hoopeston, IL.  He later married Delores Abrams and is most recently survived by his significant other, Mary Jennings.  He is also survived by one sister, Oni (Dani) Hart of Shoals, IN; three sisters-in-law, Mary Arms of North Vernon, IN, Mary Arms of Ellettsville, IN, and Nina Arms of Bloomington, IN; ten grandchildren, Levi Barger, Karson Arms, Braylon Arms, Bryson Arms, Emmitt Wood, Eastyn Wood, Huxley High, Brayden Cornelius, Bently Cornelius, and Brynlee Cornelius; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Virginia, Judy, Donna, and Carolyn; and five brothers, Gary, Jimmy, Danny, Lary, and Nile. 

Roger owned and operated Blue Sky Carwash in Hoopeston.  He then worked at M&N Pallett for several years and later worked at FedEx.  He enjoyed listening to country music, buying and selling cars, playing cards especially poker, and mowing his yard.  Roger also enjoyed visiting with friends, spending time with family and loved his cat, Nancy Boy.

A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. CST Wednesday January 2, 2019 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. CST Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Dan Mikel officiating.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. EST on Thursday January 3, 2019 at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington, IN.

Linda Sue Brown, 71, of Hoopeston

Linda Sue Brown, 71, of Hoopeston, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at Watseka Rehab and Health Care.

Mrs. Brown was born on June 14, 1947, in Danville, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Kitty (Compton) Garrison.  She married Robert Norton on December 24, 1973 and he preceded her in death on August 16, 1988.  She later married Fred Brown on December 2, 1995, in Hoopeston.  He preceded her in death on August 4, 2009.

She is survived by one brother- Timothy Garrison Sr. of Hoopeston; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and three brothers- Hank Watson, Wally Garrison and Joe Garrison.

Linda was a past member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #4826.  She enjoyed doing scroll work.

Naomi Jane (Correll) Blackwell, 90, of Hoopeston

Naomi Jane (Correll) Blackwell, 90, of Hoopeston, passed away at 1:06 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Accolade Healthcare of Paxton.

Mrs. Blackwell was born on July 9, 1928, the daughter of Valmer “Bud” and Muriel (Andrews) Correll.  She married Harold C. Blackwell on August 31, 1990, at Prairie Green Township Church.  He survives.

She is also survived by her daughter- Dorothy (Robert Jr.) Rickart of Hoopeston; two granddaughters- Deana L. Correll Hurt and Julie Rosebraugh-Brown; great-grandson- Shawn M. Hurt; sister- Vonna M Finley of Danville; sisters-in-law- Joyce W. Correll of Goldsboro, North Carolina and Carol Marez; brother and sister-in-law- Lloyd and Marsha Blackwell; brother and sister-in-law- Steve and Barb Blackwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister- Edna (Correll) Albright and brother- Richard “Dick” Dean Correll.

Mrs. Blackwell worked at CBS and Stokleys for several years, until her retirement.  She enjoyed doing embroidery.

Ray Cramer, 77, of Hoopeston

Ray Cramer, 77, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 9:10 AM Thursday December 20, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  He was born April 2, 1941, in Enid, OK, the son of Walter Wyley and Rachael (Isaman) Cramer.  He married Bonnie Kibbons of August 22, 2010 in Smartsville, CA.  She survives in Hoopeston, IL.

He is also survived by one son, Scott Cramer; one step-son, Brian Thomas; one sister, Loretta Back of Billings, OK; two grandsons, Steven and Shane Cramer; two step-granddaughters, Katie and Hanna Thomas; one step-great-grandson, Kaden Thomas; two nieces, Terri Hurbert and Cathy Lackley; one step-niece, Terri Tincher; three nephews, James Lee Back, Ray Gene Back, and Pete Cramer; and Scott’s adopted son, Glenn and his wife Stefanie and their children Tristan, Kaitlyn, Adrian, and Annabella.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kelly Cramer; one brother, Gene Cramer; and one brother-in-law, Joe Back.

Ray worked for the telephone company in Hoopeston until his retirement.  He enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, and loved watching football especially the Chicago Bears.

A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Friday December 28, 2018 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home, with Pastor Cathy Najmon officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

James Michael Franklin, 54, of Oakwood

James Michael Franklin, 54, of Oakwood, IL, passed away at 9:50 A.M. Wednesday December 19, 2018 at his home.  He was born December 24, 1963, in Watseka, IL, the son of James William and Karen (Duffin) Franklin.  He married Sally Crose on November 16, 1990 in Danville, IL.  She preceded him in death.

He is survived by one son, James Franklin of Oakwood, IL; one sister, Terri Sothard of Mariam Woods, MO; one brother, Bobby (Kim) Franklin of Hoopeston, IL; three sisters-in-law, Ruthie Crose, Linda (Edward) Woodfork, and Donna (Mike) Crose; one special cousin, LeRoy Winters; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one infant son, Michael Franklin; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Crose; and two brothers-in-law, Charles and David Crose.

James worked at Wagner’s Seed in Milford for many years and later worked at AutoZone.  He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his son.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday January 2, 2019 at Oakhill Cemetery in Oakwood, IL.  Burial will follow.

Gertrude Marie Pate, 89, of Hoopeston

Gertrude Marie Pate, 89, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 1:01 A.M. Wednesday December 19, 2018, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  She was born August 29, 1929, in Iroquois County, IL, the daughter of Samuel and Elise (Egolf) Maul.  She married Alfred Pate on September 18, 1947 and together they shared 71 years of marriage.  He survives in Hoopeston.

She is also survived by 3 daughters, Linda (Scott) Mann of Hoopeston, IL, Betty (Gene) Roach of Rossville, IL, and Sharon “Lucy” Pate of Hoopeston, IL; two sons, Larry (Cathy) Pate of Milford, IL and Gayle “Nard” (Cindy) Pate of Greenville, IL; 17 grandchildren, Tom Pate, Tami Harwood, Gara Ipock, Holly Borgers, Nikki Jones, Shawn Tuggle, Jesse Roach, Keri Darby, Jarett Roach, Sara Pate, Sadie Pate, Sally Swartz, Travis Pate, Lindsey Roeder, Heather Pate, Donnie Inman, and Jamie Gudgel; 35 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, David Pate; two sisters; three brothers; and one grandson, Ian Tuggle.

Gertrude began working at Howard Industries in 1965 and worked there until her retirement in 1991.  She was a life-member of the Prairie Green Church of Christ.  She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, and following her grandkids.

A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Saturday December 22, 2018 at the Prairie Green Church of Christ, 278 N 2800 East Rd, Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Kathryn Elaine "Kathy" Tetrault, 59, of Hoopeston

 

Kathryn Elaine “Kathy” Tetrault, 59, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 5:16 A.M. Friday December 14, 2018, at her home.  She was born February 9, 1959, in Kankakee, IL, the daughter of George Richard Bennett and Doris Jean (Hays) Bennett-Page and step-daughter of Lester Page.   She married Donald Everett Tetrault in November 1979 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chebanse, IL.  He survives in Hoopeston.

She is also survived by two daughters, Melinda Tetrault-McCammon of Carlyle, IL and Jennifer Tetrault of Rossville, IL; two sons, Andrew Tetrault of Hoopeston, IL and Joseph Tetrault of Hoopeston, IL; two sisters, Patricia “Patty” Dandurand of Bourbonnais, IL and Laurie (Byron) Shearer; one step-sister, Leslie Williams; two step-brothers, Lowell (Mary) Page and Lane Page; one brother-in-law, John Bradley; 6 grandchildren, Angela, Bryce, Jasmine, Alexa, and Addielynn Tetrault and Damain Schwartz; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; step-father; one sister, one brother, one step-sister; and one step-brother.

Kathy worked at Casey’s General Store, where she served as a cook, casher, and assistant manager for sixteen years.  She loved to make crafts, play baseball, volleyball, and go camping.  She also enjoyed playing cards, making candy with family members, connecting with friends on social media and most of all, spending time with her family.

Per her wishes, she will be cremated.  A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday December 26, 2018 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  A burial will be held at a later date.

Harold L. Bushue, 86, of Rankin

Harold L. Bushue, 86, of Rankin passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born June 18, 1932 in Edgewood, IL, the son of Ernest and Evelyn Hinkle Bushue and they preceded him in death in addition to one brother, Donald Bushue.

He married Arlene V. Swingler on May 10, 1958 in Teutopolis and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Gina (Dan) Camp of Loda and Jodi (Mark) Carter of Naperville; three sons, Jeff M. (Pam) Bushue of Danville, Gregg (Karen) Bushue of Rankin and Marc (Sheri) Bushue of Louisville, KY; four sisters, Belva (Paul) Trudeau of California, Judy (Tom) Johnson of Columbus, IN, Janet Schramm of Danville and Patty Fancher of Columbus, IN; one brother, Mike (Pat) Bushue of Rankin; fourteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bushue served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime farmer in the Rankin area. Harold was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hoopeston, Cissna Park American Legion, and was a charter member of the Rankin Lions Club.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hoopeston. Fr. Tom Gibson will officiate. Burial will follow at Rankin Union Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Cissna Park American Legion Post #527.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Rankin. A prayer service will follow at 7:00 pm.

Arthur Kelnhofer, 68, of Hoopeston

Arthur James “Art” Kelnhofer, 68, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 9:02 P.M. Monday December 3, 2018 at his home.  He was born March 15, 1950, in Danville, IL, the son of Herbert Roy and Nettie Naomi (Dean) Kelnhofer.  He married Kristi Ann Ellis on June 1, 1968, at St Anthony Catholic Church in Hoopeston.  She survives in Hoopeston, IL.

He is also survived by three daughters, Joy K. Smith of Beaufort, SC, Joanna L. Kelnhofer (Scott Lewis) of Beaufort, SC, and Jeanne M. (David) Willingham of Beaufort, SC; four sisters, Regina K. Sollars of Centennial, CO, Mary Ann (Rick) Kincade of Mt. Pleasant, WI, Sherry L. (Rick) Hayn of Hoopeston, IL, and Christy J. Wood (Dave Miller) of Watseka, IL; 9 grandchildren, Miranda Smith, Caitlyn Smith, Kelsey Kelnhofer, Alexis Kelnhofer, Haley Wright, McCayla Willingham, and Collin Willingham all of Beaufort, SC; Brianna Kelnhofer (Kyle Looney) of Bluffton, SC and Christopher Willingham of Cherry Point, NC; one great-grandchild, Kaden Looney of Bluffton, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sons, Herbert Roy and Dale Curtis Kelnhofer.

Art served in the United States Marine Corps. for 21 years as a maintenance aircraft officer.  After his retirement from the service, he was a press operator at the Beaufort Gazette for several years.  He enjoyed tinkering on cars with his Dad, watching the TV classics, and spending time with is family especially his grandchildren.

A visitation will be held 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Monday December 10, 2018 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 PM Monday at the funeral home, with Steve Unger officiating.  Burial will follow at Mann’s Chapel in rural Rossville, IL.  Military rites will be accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.

Helen Louise Howard, 97, of South Holland IL, formerly of Hoopeston

Helen Louise Howard, 97, of South Holland IL, formerly of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 10:43 P.M. Wednesday November 28, 2018 at HCR Manorcare in Homewood, IL.  She was born July 13, 1921 in Hoopeston, IL, the daughter of Oscar and Mamie (Johnson) Carlson.  She married Woodrow Clayton Howard on January 4, 1940 at his parent’s farm home in IL.  He preceded her in death at age 94 on December 26, 2012.

 

She is survived by:  two daughters, Karen K. Gerdes of Beaver Dam, WI and Shirley (Ray) Bridgeman of New Lenox, IL; two sons, Arthur C. (Crista) Howard of Colorado Springs, CO and Jeffrey G. Howard of South Holland, IL; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; one son, Oscar Howard; one son-in law, Marvin Gerdes; one sister, Anna “Ann” Marie Clouse; one brother-in-law, Earl E. Clouse; and two grandsons.

 

Helen was a homemaker.  Her favorite color was blue in keeping with her Swedish ancestry.  In her earlier years, she enjoyed taking care of neighborhood children, going to garage sales, and playing cards.  In her later years, she enjoyed going to the senior center, putting together jigsaw puzzles, taking care of her baby doll, and couponing.  She was blessed in her later years to be taken care of in her home by five wonderful women: Loretta Swigart, Kim Avila, Therese Swigart, Betty Ondreka, and Irene Stingley.

 

A visitation will be held at 1:00- 2:00 P.M. Saturday December 8, 2018 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 East Main Street Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Tom Cici officiating.  Burial will follow at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, IL.

Edward "Eddie" Anthony Hillman III, 26, of Armstrong

Edward “Eddie” Anthony Hillman III, 26, of Armstrong, passed away suddenly at 9:29 a.m. Sunday, November 25, 2018, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Eddie was born on July 23, 1992, in Danville, the son of Edward and Becky (Creighton) Hillman Jr.  He is survived by his parents; two sisters- Nicole (Tim) Beckham of Foley, Alabama and Heather (Tyson) Roan of Chicago; two nieces- Lily and Madison Roan; paternal grandparents- Edward and Jane Hillman Sr. of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents- Wilbur and Betty Creighton.

Eddie graduated from Armstrong Township High School in 2010.  He was an original founder of the Gamer’s Club, Captain of the Scholastic Bowl team, Senior Class President, member of the Homecoming Court and class Valedictorian at Armstrong Township High School.  He then graduated from Eastern Illinois University, in 2014.  Eddie graduated with honors and departmental honors.  While at EIU, he was President of the RHA.  After graduating from EIU, Eddie began teaching physics and chemistry at Armstrong High School.  He also had a great love for archery and served as the archery coach at Schlarman Academy.  In the fall of 2016, Eddie moved to Nebraska, where he served as a grad research assistant at the University of Nebraska, while pursuing his PhD in Plant Pathology.  Eddie was a member of the Mycological Society of America.  He loved archery, kayaking, long boarding, playing his guitar, playing video games and Dungeons and Dragons.  Eddie was always known for his great sense of humor and how he would do anything for anybody.  He would always find a way to help people solve their problems.  Eddie touched so many lives and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

A Celebration of Eddie’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the Middlefork United Methodist Church, in Potomac, with Pastor George Desmond officiating.  Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the Armstrong Township High School.  He will be laid to rest following the services in Partlow Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Edward Hillman III Memorial Scholarship Fund.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Eddie’s life.  Memories or photos may be shared with the family on his everlasting memorial page at:  www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.

Richard "Dick" E. Jones, 79, of Hoopeston

Richard “Dick” E. Jones, 79, of Hoopeston, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Carle Foundation Hospital, in Urbana.

Dick was born on March 1, 1939, in Danville, Illinois, the son of Marion Dwight and Betty (Marlow) Jones.  He married Marilyn Block on June 29, 1959, at the Danville United Methodist Church.  She preceded him in death on December 8, 2004.

He is survived by two sons- Randy Jones of Oxford, Indiana and Mark Jones of Hoopeston; five grandchildren- Ryan and Kyle Jones, Tia Williams, Levi Williams and Alexis Wood; and five great-grandchildren- Finley, Emma, Onisty, Darius and Analise.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Dick graduated from John Greer High School.  He worked in the automotive business for over 60 years, owning car dealerships in Milford and Hoopeston.  He enjoyed motorsports, football, going to auctions and watching auctions on TV.  He also loved classic cars, antique tractors and working.

Elizabeth Marie Kirby-Ferguson, 29, of Rossville

Elizabeth Marie Kirby-Ferguson, 29, of Rossville, passed away at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at St. Louis University Hospital, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Elizabeth was born on September 29, 1989, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of Robert and Julie (Yaden) Kirby.  She married John Ferguson on April 16, 2010, in Danville.  He survives.

She is also survived by her three children- Halie, Nathan and Christian Ferguson; parents- Robert and Julie Kirby of Hoopeston; sister- Stephanie (Jesse Rosenberger) Kirby of Rossville; maternal grandmother- Beverly Yaden of Hoopeston; two nieces- Elly May and Mia Kirby; mother-in-law- Shirley Ferguson of Haughton, Louisiana; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sister- Melinda Kirby; maternal grandfather- Cecil Yaden, paternal grandparents- Keith and Peggy Kirby and father-in-law- Gary Ferguson.

Elizabeth attended Rossville Grade School and Bismarck-Henning High School.  She was a member of Antioch Church of Christ.  Elizabeth enjoyed fishing, going for walks, riding her bike, penny shopping and flea markets.  The love of her life was spending time with her children.

Steven Alan "Squire" Rhodes, 62, of Hoopeston

Steven Alan “Squire” Rhodes, 62, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 1:42 p.m. Thursday November 29, 2018 at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana, IL.  He was born December 5, 1955 in Danville, IL, the son of Donald J. and Eunice (Dietel) Rhodes.  He married Sara Ann Fourez on November 9, 1997.  She survives in Hoopeston.

 

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday December 4, 2018 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday December 5, 2018 at the funeral home, with Dave Rhodes officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Geroldene "Jerri" A. (Gebhart) Kult, 61, of Boswell

Geroldene “Jerri” A. (Gebhart) Kult, 61, of Boswell passed away on November 25, 2018 at The Gathering Together located in Plainfield, Indiana. She was born November 26, 1956 to the late Harvey and Edna Gebhart.

 

Jerri grew up in the Greater Lafayette area and was a graduate of Wainwright High School in 1975. Working in various industries throughout her life, Jerri found cooking to be her passion. She owned and worked at different restaurants throughout her career life. Jerri enjoyed spending time with her family, church friends, friends, and neighbors. She had recently helped organize a block party for her Boswell neighbors. Jerri was a loving, generous spirit who would help anyone in need. She touched the lives of those around her and will be missed dearly. 

 

Jerri married Bryon Kult at Dayton United Methodist Church on May 30, 1994. He survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her six (6) children: Kristyl Frantz (Brandon) Shoaf, Lynn Frantz (Mike) Cooley, Gregory (Beth) Frantz, Mallory Kult (Craig) Redlin, Rebecca Wolfe (Chris) Shepperd, and Elizabeth Wolfe (Scott) Dadacz and her fourteen (14) grandchildren. Jerri is also survived by her sister, Kathy Krell.

 

A visitation will be held 2:00P.M. – 5:30P.M. EST on Saturday December 8, 2018 at the Fowler Christian Church.  A celebration of life will follow the visitation at 5:30 P.M. EST at the church with Pastor Kirk Zimmerman officiating.  No burial will be held.
