James J. "Jim" Potter, 85, of Henning

James J. “Jim” Potter, 85, of Henning, IL, passed away at 8:15 A.M. on Sunday August 28, 2022, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston. He was born October 20, 1936, in Danville, IL, the son of Harold and Genevieve (Dickman) Potter. He married Doris Jean McQueen in Danville, IL and she survives. 

He is also survived by four daughters, Debra (Mike) Robling of Hoopeston, Terri (Randy) Leibach of Indian Springs, Sherri (Fred) Mikalik of Bismarck and Rachel (Jeff) Bryant of Danville; one son, Ben (Linda) Potter of Georgetown; one sister, Linda (Alfred) Story of Danville; two sisters-in-law, Cindy (Nello) Fatigati and Wilma Duncan; fifteen grandchildren, Tyler Robling, Brooke (JD) Stewart, C M Sgt. Cade (Kim) Potter, Ben (Brook) Potter, Jennifer (Cole) Wear, Kristen Wilson, Katie (Ben) Hensold, Emily Leibach, Zac (Anne) Mikalik, Nate Mikalik, Andy, Kayla, and Kimberly Wireman, and Kayla and Adam Bryant; twenty great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Andrew; and twin sister, Judy. 

Jim was a lifetime farmer. He served in the United States Army from 1955 – 1963, serving four years in the Armored Tank Division. He was a member of The Rock Church in Danville, and later attended New Beginnings of Hoopeston. He was the former Mayor of Henning and previously served on the Bismarck School board. After retirement, Jim and his wife, Doris, spent ten years antiquing in several states, including Colorado. 

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday September 1, 2022, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday September 2, 2022, at the funeral home, with Mike Robling officiating. Burial will follow in Gundy Cemetery in rural Bismarck, with military rites being accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.

Loretta (Lee) German, 99 of Rossville

Loretta (Lee) German, 99 of Rossville passed peacefully from this life on August 21, 2022, at Autumn Fields Assisted Living, in Hoopeston, Illinois, surrounded by her family.

Loretta was born in Hoopeston, on January 14, 1923, to Frank and Lulu Lee.  She married Curt German on June 18, 1950, who preceded her in death. Loretta and Curt lived in Rossville with their daughters, where Loretta continued to live until February of this year.

Loretta had two daughters, Pat (Bill) Adams of Columbus, Indiana and Jane (Jeff) Wright of Libertyville, Illinois.  She had four grandchildren: Amanda Lytle of Franklin, Indiana, Curt Lytle of Franklin, Indiana, Stephen (Jenny) Wright of Libertyville, Illinois and Sarah (Eric Walz) Wright of Mundelein, Illinois and four great-grandchildren.

For those wishing to honor Loretta, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday August 28th, 2022, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Rossville Fire Department.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to H.A.R.T., 901 W. Kaleb Benjamin Luebchow, 27, of Nashville, TN

Kaleb Benjamin Luebchow, 27, of Nashville, TN, passed away on Wednesday July 27, 2022, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was born November 25, 1994, at Carle Hospital in Urbana, IL, the son of Kevin Luebchow of St. Joseph, IL and Paige McQuigg of Urbana, IL. 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Austin Luebchow of St. Joseph, IL; his maternal grandparents, Bruce and Nancy McQuigg of rural Rankin, IL; aunts and uncles, Stacy (Ryan) Cook of Heyworth, IL, Esther (John) Getchell of Arcadia, IN, Kent (Amy) Luebchow of Buckley, IL, Kaye (David) Schmidt of Thawville, IL, and Kathy Donnelly of Piper City, IL; a great-aunt, Carol McQuigg (Art) Heck of West Lafayette, IN; a great-uncle, Frank (Nancy) Brown of Hoopeston, IL; great-aunt, Judy (John) Goldenstein of Danforth, IL; great-uncle, Dennis (Janice) Kregel of Cissna Park, IL; a special friend, Xarah Xavier of Nashville, TN; and many cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold and Joanne Luebchow. 

Kaleb was living out his life-long passion of playing drums and making music with friends and had recently returned from a tour in France with Admiral Phunk Brass Band where he had an incredible time. Back in Nashville, Kaleb was looking forward to going on the road again soon with his good friends and bandmates in War Of Ages. In addition to playing with these two bands, he regularly played with many other musicians in Nashville and the surrounding area, as well as in Illinois. Once shy and introverted, Kaleb grew into a man with a beautiful magnetic spirit who knew no stranger. He was an incredibly talented musician who was extremely humble and encouraging to others. Kaleb is deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. 

A visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Copper Creek Church, 2202 W. Curtis Rd., Champaign, IL. A memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the church with Pastor Scott Keeble and Pastor Leah Wenger officiating. No burial will be held at this time.

Lloyd Scott "Scooter" Redden, 70, of Alvin

Lloyd Scott “Scooter” Redden, 70, of Alvin, IL, passed away at 12:52 P.M. Thursday August 11, 2022, at his home. He was born February 28, 1952, in Fort Eustis, VA, the son of Lloyd Howard “Rusty” and Virginia (Richardson) Redden. He married Cheryl Holt on May 24, 1986. She survives in Oakwood, IL. 

He is also survived by one daughter, Cassie Parker (Shane) Wynn of Oakwood, IL; one son, Easy Redden of Indianapolis, IN; one brother, three sisters, Helen Gerrity of Danville, IL, Irma (Frank) Walt of Hamtramck, MI, and Edy (Rick) Farnsworth of Rossville, IL; one brother, Dean (Susan) Redden of Hoopeston, IL; two grandchildren, Wyatt Wynn and Mariah Redden; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one step-son, Nat Parker. 

Scooter worked at Creative Products and later at Freight Car in Danville. He served in the United States Army from March 15, 1972, to December 14, 1973. He was a member of the Alvin Church of God. Scooter enjoyed building and riding motorcycles, reading, and arrowhead hunting. 

Cremation rites have been accorded. A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the Alvin Church of God, 109 South St., Alvin, IL. The memorial service will begin at 12:00 P.M. Saturday September 10th, at the church, with Pastor Dan Hunt officiating. A private burial will be held.

Robert Franklin "Bob" Vestal, 76, of Kingman, IN

Robert Franklin “Bob” Vestal, 76, of Kingman, IN, passed away at 3:05 P.M. Sunday August 7, 2022, at his son’s home in Hoopeston, IL. He was born January 1, 1945, in Paris, IL, the son of Robert Riley and Margaret Louise (Hunnicutt) Vestal.  

He is survived by one son, Shawn (Christine) Sullivan of Hoopeston, IL; one sister, Nancy (Rick) Sheets; one brother, Larry (Bernie) Vestal; and three grandchildren, Taylor, Trevor, and Tara Sullivan. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant granddaughter, Taryn Marie Sullivan. 

Bob was a self-employed painter and lawncare worker. He enjoyed fishing and visiting with his friends. 

Cremation rites will be accorded, and no services will be held.

Karl Phillip Knauth, age 84, of Milford

Karl Phillip Knauth, age 84, of Milford passed away on Saturday, August 6th, 2022 at his home in rural Milford. Karl was born December 22, 1937 in Chicago, a son of Otto and Sarah (Morse) Knauth. He married Joyce Johnson on August 13, 1960 in Watseka.

Karl is survived by his wife, Joyce Knauth of Milford; two sons, Keith (Marsha) Knauth and Kirk (Tana) Knauth, both of Watseka; grandchildren, Kyle (Ellen) Knauth of Milford, Kassandra (Jordan) Hurliman of Cissna Park, Kelcy (Ryan) Kunce of Sheldon, Kinsey Knauth of Sheldon, and Konnor Knauth of Watseka; great-grandchildren, Kolton and Knox Knauth, Kenlie and Kamryn Kunce, and one on the way; siblings, Kurt (Betty) Knauth of Ft. Myers, Florida, Kenneth (Becky) Knauth of Watertown, Wisconsin, Ruth (Walter) Marcis of Greensboro, Georgia, and Marie (William) Bittner of Albany, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Louise Siess and Helen Beloof.

Mr. Knauth was a veteran of the United States Marine Reserves. He was a lifelong farmer. Mr. Knauth devoted his time to his family and their farm, raising row crops and livestock. His passion for the agriculture industry has been passed on to all generations of his family. Mr. Knauth was proud of his sons and grandchildren, which was evident in his eyes as he watched them carry traditions set by him and his wife. Mr. Knauth was an avid Fighting Illini Fan and enjoyed spending time in Champaign-Urbana tailgating with friends and family and attending Big Ten basketball games.

Funeral services for Mr. Knauth will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka with Rev. Brent Zastrow officiating. The visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m. also at the Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Burial will be held at a later date at the Body Cemetery near Woodland.

Linda Rutledge, 79, of Hoopeston

Linda Kay Rutledge, 79, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 2:40 P.M. Wednesday August 3, 2022, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL. She was born September 15, 1942, in Watseka, IL, the daughter of Glenn and Mildred (Ristow) Ashby.  

She is survived by four daughters, Carolyn (Gus) Cullivan of Fowler, IN, Carla Rutledge of Hoopeston, IL, Tammy Rutledge (Rick) of Oxford, IN, and Laurie Wooten (Bruce) of Hoopeston, IL; three sisters, Lela Savage of Hoopeston, IL, Joyce Wilken of Hoopeston, IL, and Connie Law of Hoopeston, IL; 9 grandchildren, Chris Rutledge, Amber Spielbauer, Joshua, Jonathan, Jeremy, Aaron, Brittney, Chelsea, and Courtney Rutledge; 11 great-grandchildren, Chloe, Adilyne, Haven, Odin, Kaden, Matthew, Grayden, Alydia, Sophia, Braxon, and Serenity; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Mick Rutledge; two grandsons, Derek and Dustin Rutledge; three sisters, Jean Breeding, Gloria Morefield, and Betty Gocking; and 6 brothers-in-law, Pete Breeding, Jr. Morefield, Bob Gocking, Elton Savage, Loren Wilken, and Tom Law. 

Linda spent her life as a homemaker, caring for her family. She attended the Chestnut Street Church of Christ in Hoopeston. She enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and loved her pets. 

A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Friday August 12, 2022, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home, with Pastor John Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Martha M. Hayn, 95, of Hoopeston

Martha M. Hayn, 95, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 4:45 A.M. Saturday July 30, 2022, at her home. She was born September 6, 1926, in Sidney, IL, the daughter of Joseph Martin and Hallie (Sigafoose) Jordan. She married Frank L. Hayn on March 31, 1942, in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death in 1999. 

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Anne Gaddis of Milford, IL and Debra Kay (Randy) Inman of Hoopeston, IL; two sons, Charles LeRoy Hayn of New Port Richey, FL and Rick Dean (Sherry) Hayn of Hoopeston, IL; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. 

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Jean Yanders; one son-in-law, James Gaddis; 4 sisters; 3 brothers; and one grandson, Jeff Yanders. 

Martha was a homemaker and also worked by her husband’s side running a fertilizer plant. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Rankin. She enjoyed fishing, reading, and playing with her grandkids. Martha also enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially Jimmy Johnson and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs. 

A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Friday August 5, 2022, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Jennifer Hartweg- Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Huls Cemetery in Gifford, IL.
