Shirley Cornelius, 91, of Hoopeston

Shirley Cornelius, 91, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 7:24 A.M. Friday May 26, 2023, at her home. She was born July 22, 1931, in Paxton, IL, the daughter of Edward and Mabel (Stifle) Boehme. She married George Cornelius on June 13, 1949, at the United Methodist Church in Rankin, IL. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Vickie (Bill) Misner of Carbondale, IL and Peggy Pajor of Danville, IL; one daughter-in-law, Diana (Marvin) Gudeman of Bloomington, IL; one sister, Sue (Tom) Ritt of Miami, FL; one sister-in-law, Arla Boehme of Loda, IL; six grandchildren, Toby, Brad, Israel, Shane, Megan, and Scott; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; one son, David Cornelius; one sister, Mona Silver; and one brother, Herb Boehme.

Shirley worked for nearly thirty-seven years at several different factories in Hoopeston including Joan of Arc, Pillsbury, and Hoopeston Foods until her retirement. She attended the First Baptist Church in Hoopeston. She enjoyed collecting antiques and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Wednesday May 31, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rankin Union Cemetery in Rankin, IL.

Betty Jean Kinney, 94, of Potomac

Betty Jean Kinney, 94, of Potomac, passed away peacefully with her daughter and niece by her side, at 1:05 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2023, at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center, in Urbana.

Betty was born on March 18, 1929, in Penfield, Illinois, the daughter of Everett and Adaline (Meitzler) Ellis.  She married Leland G. Kinney on January 18, 1948, at the Potomac United Methodist Church.  He preceded her in death on July 14, 1982.

She is survived by one daughter- Susan Kinney of Tinley Park, Illinois; two sisters- Sonna Carley of Potomac and Barbara Arford of Andover, Minnesota; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters- Mary Downing and Judy Hacker.

Betty graduated from Potomac High School in 1947.  She worked as a school secretary at Armstrong Township High School for 39 years, until her retirement and she never missed attending a Armstrong class reunion after her retirement.  She volunteered at Lakeview/Provea/OSF Hospital for 31 years at the front desk, Potomac Grade School for 16 years reading to the kids and Secretary of the Potomac Township Board for 40 years.  Betty was a member of the Middlefork United Methodist Church, where she played the piano for over 70 years and was still playing the piano currently.  She enjoyed going out to eat every Sunday and Thursday with her different groups of friends.  Betty enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching the Game Show Network, Hallmark Channel and giving her nephew Dave a hard time.  She also enjoyed talking on the phone to her family and friends.

A Celebration of Betty's Life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the Middlefork United Methodist Church, with Pastor George Desmond officiating.  She will be laid to rest following the services in Potomac Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac.  Memorials may be made in Betty's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist the family in honoring Betty's life.  Condolences may be shared with the family on her everlasting memorial page at: www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.    

Marjorie R. Alt, 96 of Cissna Park

Marjorie R. Alt, 96 of Cissna Park passed away on Thursday May 18, 2023 at Serenity Villa in Fairbury. She was born on January 23, 1927 in Buckley a daughter of Jacob and Lydia (Ramseyer) Rinkenberger. Marge married Edward J. Alt in Cissna Park on September 11, 1949 and he preceded her in death on August 8, 2011. Survivors include two sons- Mark (Kai) Alt of Carmel, IN and John Alt of Cissna Park; one daughter- Beth (Bill) Novak of St. Joseph, IL; four grandchildren- Janell (Brad) Shaffer, Philip (Cari) Alt, Seth (Lori) Alt, and Michael (Jamie) Alt; and 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters, one son- Phil Alt, and one great grandchild- Grace Lynn Alt.

She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Cissna Park.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday May 23, 2023 at the Apostolic Christian Church in Cissna Park with ministers of the church officiating.

Visitation will be on Monday May 22, 2023 from 3:00-7:00 pm at Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park and one hour prior to service at the church.

Burial will be at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Cissna Park.

Memorials may be made to Serenity Villa in Fairbury.

Frances A. Bradley, 82, of Potomac

 

 

Frances A. Bradley, 82, of Potomac, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Heritage Health, in Hoopeston.

Fran was born on February 20, 1941, in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Clifford and Nora (Wall) Showalter.  She married Bennie W. Bradley on November 5, 1966, in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death on September 11, 1986.

She is survived by two daughters- Angela S. (Dale) Fagan of Hammond, Illinois and Dixie L. (Terry) Bowman of Collison; two sons- Martin C. Bradley of Oakwood and Joey W. (Rhonda) Bradley of Urbana; daughter-in-law- Janet Pettice of Hoopeston; fourteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers- John Showalter of Galesburg, Illinois, Michael Anderson of Auburn, Alabama and David (Chris) Armentrout of New Boston, Illinois; three sisters- Ellen Showalter of Dixon, Illinois, Ruthanne Reardon of Potomac, and Leota Hensley of Abingdon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father- Robert Anderson, husband, son- Jimmie Pettice, daughter-in-law- Carla Bradley, two brothers- Roger Showalter and George Showalter and sister- Becky Anderson.

Fran enjoyed going to the Paradice Riverboat with her sister Ruthanne.  She also enjoyed knitting, singing and playing cards and dice, as long as she was winning.

Charlene Warner, 78, of Hoopeston

Willa Charlene Warner, 78, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 6:26 P.M. Wednesday May 17, 2023, at Hawthorn Inn of Danville. She was born July 2, 1944, in Danville, IL, the daughter of William and Alice (Russell) Mullins. She married Paul Leslie Warner on December 11, 1982, in Danville, IL. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2010.

She is survived by two daughters, Kim (Mike) Warner of Hoopeston, IL and Joy (Wayne) Wilson of Glasgow, KY; one son, Terry Elliott of Cayuga, IN; 10 grandchildren, Jason Fairchild, Linsey Warner, Brandi Warner, Coty Elliott, Justin Warner, Megan Poteet, Brandon Elliott, James Wilson, Conner Wilson, and Maggie Wilson; five great-grandchildren, Kenyon Montez, Willa Martinez, and Gracelynn, Addie and Aiden Poteet; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jody King; and one brother, Wayne Sergent.

Charlene worked at Pamida and later at Dollar General. She attended New Beginnings of Hoopeston. She enjoyed working in her yard, reading entertainment magazines, and working crossword puzzles. Most of all, Charlene loved her family.

A visitation will be held 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. Monday May 22, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 4:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Following the service, she will be cremated, and a private family burial will be held.

Kenneth Ray "Dude" Williams, 65, of Hoopeston

Kenneth Ray “Dude” Williams, 65, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 12:14 P.M. Tuesday December 6, 2022, in Fishers, IN.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday May 20, 2023, at the First Baptist Church, 323 E. Seminary Ave., Hoopeston, IL, with Pastor Adam Taubert officiating. Burial will follow in East Lynn Cemetery in East Lynn, IL.

Mary Tressa "Treedy" Norris, 87, of Hoopeston

Mary Tressa “Treedy” Norris, 87, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 10:15 P.M. Wednesday May 10, 2023, at the Villas of Holly Brook in Danville, IL. She was born December 24, 1935, in Hoopeston, IL, the daughter of Bratton and Ophia Iona (Crothers) Franklin. She married James Bernard Norris, and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Allen (Kim) Norris of Oakwood, IL; brother-in-law, Bob Roberts; three grandchildren, Amanda (Luc) Ames, Jason (Jody) Norris, and Ian Holk; four great grandchildren, Isabel and Cooper Ames, Max Holk, and June Norris; and several special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Betty Wheeler, Dorothy Campana, Carrie Kelnhofer, Dalton Cuzzort, Barbara Roberts, and Catherine Louise Troxel; and three brothers, Ray and Earl Cuzzort and Ronald Franklin.

Treedy worked at General Electric and later at FMC in Hoopeston for over twenty years before her retirement. After retirement, she worked at the Hoopeston Multi-Agency thrift shop. Treedy loved her family. She also loved all the children in her neighborhood, and they called her Aunt Treedy. She enjoyed cooking for her family and traveling to visit her grandchildren.

A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Wednesday May 17, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Stewart A. Fitzsimmons, 44, of Potomac

Stewart A. Fitzsimmons, 44, of Potomac, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2023, at his home.

Stewart was born on January 20, 1979, in Rantoul, Illinois, the son of Bill James and Betty (Whitlow) Fitzsimmons.  He married Christie Taylor on September 27, 2008, at the Potomac Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife Christie Fitzsimmons of Potomac; son- Aidan Fitzsimmons of Potomac; mother- Betty Fitzsimmons of Potomac; three brothers- Bobby (Marilyn) Fitzsimmons, Barry Fitzsimmons and Patrick Scott (Bridgett) Fitzsimmons; four sisters- Laura (Sean) Rhodes, Joy Lynn Fitzsimmons, Leann Fitzsimmons and Veronica Adams; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father-Bill Fitzsimmons, sister- Billie Fitzsimmons, and two nephews- Skylar and Randall Fitzsimmons.

Stewart graduated from Armstrong High School in 1997 and later attended four years of trade school through the union.  He worked as a union pipefitter for over 15 years for Local #157 Plumbers and Steamfitters.  He was most recently working at East Lynn Fertilizer.  Stewart was a member of the Potomac Church of the Nazarene.  He enjoyed working on vehicles and motorcycles.  He loved to work, was very smart and was a jack of all trades.  He enjoyed reading and could remember anything that he read.  Stewart loved to spend time with his family.

A Celebration of Stewart's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Potomac Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Randy Holden officiating.  Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, at the church.  He will be laid to rest following the services in the Potomac Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in Stewart's name to Hooves of Hope.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Stewart's life.  Condolences may be shared with the family on his everlasting memorial page at: www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.

Myrtle "Dolly" Redden, 102, of Bloomington

Myrtle Grace “Dolly” Redden, 102, of Bloomington, IL, passed away at 11:11 P.M. Monday May 8, 2023, at Carriage Crossing in Bloomington. She was born April 10, 1921, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Dewey and Leta (Summers) Hogge. She married George Alfred Redden on October 31, 1941, in Selma, AL. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Jan Morgan (Scott) Preston of Hoopeston, IL and Georganne (Mike) Morris of Bloomington, IL; one son, Rex Redden of Alpine, TX; ten grandchildren, Elisa, Katie, Andy, Clint, Clay, Tony, Lydia, Meredith, Laura, and Madeline; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dewey Jr.

Dolly was a homemaker, caring for her family. As a military wife, she enjoyed traveling and lived overseas in Turkey and Japan. She was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church and served as a board member for the John Wesley Fellowship of Illinois. Dolly was also a member of Christian Women’s Clubs. She was a certified lay speaker who was in-demand nationally. In addition to speaking, her hobbies included playing bridge, bingo, and dominoes and traveling on mission trips. At the age of 93, Dolly became an author, writing “Songs I Must Sing” and took her first motorcycle ride at the age of 95.

A private graveside service will be held, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Bessie (Lee) Leah (Sprague) Laird, 91, of Hoopeston

Bessie (Lee) Leah (Sprague) Laird, 91, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 4:08 PM, Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center in Hoopeston. She was born February 26, 1932, in Rankin, IL, the daughter of John and Leola (Ellis) Sprague. She married in 1949 to Roy Carlson of Hoopeston. Surviving from this union is one son, Randall Dean Carlson of Fairbanks, AK and one daughter, Lynn Anne Carlson (Rich) Garula of Westlake, OH. She later married Vernon L Laird, Jr on October 14, 1966, at the Central Christian Church in Danville, IL. He proceeded her in death. Surviving is one son, Todd Lewis Laird of Chicago, IL, one stepdaughter, Amanda Jane (Laird) Kuntz and five stepsons, Gregory Steven, Jay Scott, Eric Bruce, Brian Douglas and Lee Griffin Laird.

In addition to her husband, Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bruce Alan (Linda) Carlson; six brothers, John (Alice) Sprague, Marvin (Shirley) Sprague, Lauren (Jake) Sprague, Joseph (Edith) Sprague, Ron (Diane) Sprague, and Gene (Linda) Sprague; and one sister, Edna (Sprague) Shmink. She is survived by one sister, Lois Elaine (Sprague) Lytle, a very special niece and friend, Pamela (Tutwiler) Barker, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In her younger days, Bessie (Lee) enjoyed quilting, cooking for and spending time with family, playing bridge, and gardening. She enjoyed reading books and solving puzzles until her final days. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hoopeston, IL.

Lynn "Cookie" Green, 81, of Rossville

Lynn “Cookie” Green, 81, of Rossville, IL, passed away at 1:50 P.M. Sunday May 7, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Cremation rites will be accorded, and a visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday May 12, 2023, at the Rossville United Methodist Church in Rossville, IL. No burial will be held.

Sandra Drullinger, 81, of Hoopeston

 

Sandra Sue (Edwards) Drullinger was born on May 16, 1941, to Albert and Lena Edwards (Staton).  The second of eight children, she shared an especially close bond with her sisters, who she loved to travel with.  She was married to Paul Drullinger, with whom she shared many adventures traveling through the mountains of New Mexico, where they made their home for many years.  She had also had some lovely trips to Hawaii, as well as a trip to Europe with her son, Scott and her husband Paul, and another special trip to Europe with her sister, Cheryl.

Having earned a degree from DACC, Sandra was proud to be an electronic technician, a job held by very few women.  Sandra was well known for being the best pie baker in the world. If you were lucky enough to have had a slice of one, you know!!!  Sandra enjoyed making quilts, baking, and gardening and was a hot air balloon enthusiast, having lived in the Hot Air Balloon Capitol of the World. 

From a young age, she worked hard and dedicated her life to caring for her sons.  She passed the real estate salesman exam in 1981. She was a shopkeeper and owned a shop in Downtown Hoopeston, For Keeps, where she enjoyed meeting and reacquainting herself with members of the community.

In her later years, Sandra enjoyed coffee with a special group of friends, Debbie, Rita, Joannie, Judy and Orleana, and enjoyed the staff at 112 in particular. Recently, Sandra enjoyed a retreat at the Abbey of Gethsemani with her Contemplative Prayer Group and Poetry Club at the Milford Library.  She was blessed by a lifelong friend, Shirley Bomba and a special friend, Gail Swarthout, she met when she moved to New Mexico.  She was also very close with her sister-in-law, Sheila, who she loved and confided in.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Michael Bagley, her brother, Eddie Edwards, her sister-in-law, Sharon Edwards, and her brother-in-law, Richard Hampton.  She is survived by her two sons, Scott Bagley (Caroline) and Sean Bagley, three brothers, Terry Edwards, James (Diana) Edwards, and Tom Edwards, three sisters, Kay Hampton, Cheryl (Larry) Stephen, and Wendy (Andy Fink) Edwards, her sister-in-law, Sheila Edwards, grandson, Otto, stepsons, Mark Drullinger and John Drullinger, stepdaughters, Valerie Faucett and Jackie (Gary) Haas (the daughter she always wanted), along with 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren who all loved her and were loved in return.  To know Sandra was to know love and her family will miss her dearly all of our days.

Lisa Ann LaBounty, 59, of Cissna Park

Lisa Ann LaBounty, 59, of Cissna Park, IL, passed away at 2:35 A.M. Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, IL. She was born May 9, 1963, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Donald K. and Helen Eileen (Murphy) LaBounty.

She is survived by one sister, Diane Goin of Hoopeston, IL; six nieces and nephews, Tami Goin of Hoopeston, IL, Cara Goin of Rantoul, IL, Laura (Tim) Garrison of Rantoul, IL, David LaBounty of Hume, IL, Brenden and Mathew; one great-niece, Jessy Garrison; and one great-nephew, Jayce Garrison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Rhonda LaBounty; one brother, David LaBounty; one brother-in-law, Gary Goin; and her grandparents, Laura and Lee Murphy and Lyda and William James LaBounty.

Lisa worked at WorkSource in Danville. She enjoyed bowling, participating in the Special Olympics, and performing in plays with her theater group. She was also in the movie production, Dr. Seuss- Someone Stole My Hoo-Too-Foo-Too-Boo-To-Bah!, which premiered at the Art Theater in Champaign, IL. There was a special book written about Lisa called, Lisa a Rosebud Forever, which was written by her mother and illustrated by her sister.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday May 9, 2023, at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston with Pastor Kathy Murphy officiating.

Bessie Laird, 91, of Hoopeston

Bessie (Lee) Leah (Sprague) Laird, 91, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 4:08 PM, Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center in Hoopeston. She was born February 26, 1932, in Rankin, IL, the daughter of John and Leola (Ellis) Sprague.

She married in 1949 to Roy Carlson of Hoopeston. Surviving from this union is one son, Randall Dean Carlson of Fairbanks, AK and one daughter, Lynn Anne Carlson (Rich) Garula of Westlake, OH.

Kenneth Wallis Wisdom, Sr., 65, of Hoopeston

Kenneth Wallis “Wizard” Wisdom, Sr., 65, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 3:24 P.M. Saturday April 29, 2023, at his home. He was born May 1, 1957, in Danville, IL, the son of Wallis and Betty (Field) Wisdom. His mother survives in Hoopeston. He married Christine Stearn on August 17, 1991, in Hoopeston and she survives in Hoopeston.

He is also survived by three daughters, Sarah Wisdom of Jacksonville, FL, Amanda (Steven) Bowman of Paxton, IL, and Rachel Wisdom of Hoopeston, IL; two sons, Kenneth (Andrea) Wisdom, Jr. of Rantoul, IL and Elijah Wisdom of Hoopeston, IL; two sisters, Sharon (Andrew) Delashmit of Oceanside, CA and Kathy (Brad) Cox of Hoopeston, IL; one brother, Steve (Robin) Wisdom of Mesquite, TX; and four grandchildren, Radley, Ruxin, Rory, and Ripley Bowman; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wallis Wisdom and one brother, Jeffrey Scott Wisdom.

Kenneth was an owner operator semi-truck driver for over forty-seven years until his retirement. He was a member of the Antioch Church of Christ in rural Rossville. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed playing cards and checkers and shooting with his sons.

Cremation rites will be accorded, and a service will be held at a later date.

Ellen Bell, 82, of Hoopeston, IL

Ellen Sue Bell, 82, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 4:55 A.M. Sunday April 30, 2023, at her home. She was born December 18, 1940, in Westville, IL, the daughter of Froble and Della (Hamilton) High. She married Larry L. Bell, Sr., on July 11, 1958, in Somerset, KY. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Larry (Garnet) Bell of Corpus Christi, TX and Bobby Chuck (Lisa) Bell of Ambia, IN; one daughter, Amber (Jeff) Deck of Hoopeston, IL; nine grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Barb and Della Bell; one grandson, Brock Pennington; and two sisters, Barbara Hamilton and Deloris McDaniel.

Ellen was a homemaker. She enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She collected coffee cups and always enjoyed drinking a cup of coffee and smoking a cigarette.

Cremation rites will be accorded, and a private graveside service will be held.
