Harry C. Kaper, 88, of Watseka passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at the Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka. He was born on October 29, 1932 in Chicago a son of Neil and Johanna Kingma Kaper. Harry married Grace M. Reed in Chicago on August 21, 1955 and she preceded him in death on January 1, 2021. Also preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, and one sister. Survivors include three sons- Gary (Debbie) Kaper of Watseka, Burt (Nancy) Kaper of Watseka, and Jeff (Sarah) Kaper of Champaign; two daughters- Susan (Steve) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN and Stephanie (James) Gray of Tower Lakes; thirteen grandchildren- Cornell, Madelyn, Katelyn, Grant, Allison, Alex, Reed, Emma, Ethan, Anna, Olivia, Ellen, and Oliver; five great grandchildren- William, Jackson, Emersyn, Shannon, and Danielle; two sisters- Betty Fetel of PA and Ruth Elliott of Tuscon, AZ.

After graduating from Demotte High School, Harry attended South Bend Business College. He continued his education at Kansas State University and he was in the first class to graduate from the Feed Technology School. He entered the executive training program with Ralston Purina Company and worked with them for four years. Harry then formed a partnership with his cousin and established Bedford Woodworking Company in Burbank. This company was well known for high quality cabinetry and millwork throughout the Chicago area. In 1981, he started his own business, Kaper’s Hardware and Building Materials, in Watseka and ran the business until March 2013. Harry was School Board President of District 135 in Orland Park for fourteen years and most recently was a trustee for the Woodland Fire Department. Throughout the years he was active in church ministries serving on elder boards, building committees, and youth programs.

A celebration of life service will be held at Cornerstone Church in Woodland on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 10:00 am with Pastor Jerry Parker officiating.

Michael E. Johnson, 50, of Gilman passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 in Gilman. He was born on November 18, 1970 in Kankakee, the son of Paul E. and Margurette Wade (Shuman) Johnson. He married Linda Kay Milton in Bourbonnais on August 15, 1997 and she passed away on January 20, 2018. He is also preceded in death by both of his parents.

Surviving are one daughter, Nicole Johnson (R.C. Snow) of Decatur; one son, Logan Johnson of Gilman; two brothers, David E. Johnson of Gilman and Andrew J. Johnson of Gilman; one sister, Susan M. Johnson of Buckeye, AZ; and his girlfriend, Karen Kmiecik and her family, all of Gilman.

Michael served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of the Onarga Sons of the American Legion Post 551. Michael enjoyed camping, was a tech enthusiast, and had a special skill in photography. He was a good, loving father to his kids.

A memorial visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, July 29th, 2021 at Knapp-Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Danville National Cemetery in Danville with full graveside military rites.

Barbara M. Wood, 86, of Milford, IL, passed away at 3:35 P.M. Friday July 23, 2021, at Accolade Health Care of Paxton on Fulton.  She was born October 24, 1934, in Wellington, IL, the daughter of Roy and Myrtle (McMahel) Crook.  She married Everett H. Wood on December 24, 1952, at the Prairie Green Church of Christ.  He preceded her in death. 

She is survived by two daughters, Connie (Lynn) Campbell of Tucson, AZ and Cathy Jennings of Carterville, IL; one sister, Carolyn (Tracy) Clayton of Brownsburg, IN; one brother, Richard Crook of Milford, IL; one brother-in-law, Wayne Way; two granddaughters, Jenifer Harris and Tina Shick; three great-grandchildren, Kody, Kady, and Kaly; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Frances Way; two brothers, Ernie Crook and Robert Crook; and one son-in-law, Mike Jennings. 

Barbara worked at Goss’ Home Bakery and later at Stokely’s in Hoopeston.  She was a member of the Milford Christian Church.  She enjoyed bowling and was inducted into the Hoopeston Bowling Hall of Fame.  Barbara also enjoyed growing flowers, birdwatching, and collecting knickknacks and antiques. 

A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. -12:00 P.M. Thursday July 29, 2021, at the Milford Christian Church 811 E. Hickory St. Milford, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. Thursday at the church with Pastor Brent Zastrow, Rev. Gary Milton, and Rev. Neil Larimore officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Denise Renee Sims, 64, of rural Wellington, IL, passed away at 12:10 P.M. Wednesday July 21, 2021, at her home.  She was born January 3, 1957, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Gilbert and Kathryn (Martin) Stock.  She married Scott Lee Sims on September 25, 1976, at the First Christian Church in Hoopeston.  He survives in rural Wellington. 

She is also survived by her mother, Kathryn Stock; one daughter, Emily (Logan) Davis of Bloomington, IL; two sons, Lucus Sims of Hoopeston, IL and Seth (Alexis) Sims of Hoopeston, IL; three sisters, Dianne (Reid) Page of Watseka, IL, Darla Stock of Fishers, IN, and Danell Moberly of Bloomington, IL; one brother, Dale (Angie) Stock of Hoopeston, IL; four grandchildren, Rowan and Oakley Davis and Sydney and Olivia Sims; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Stock and her in-laws, Floyd and Margaret Anne Sims. 

Denise worked for Hoopeston Cable TV for 28 years.  She later worked at Dairy Queen in Hoopeston for several years where she loved visiting with friends.  She loved the sun and enjoyed spending time at the pool.  She also enjoyed working outdoors, shopping, and collecting farmhouse antiques.  Denise especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. 

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Monday July 26, 2021, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday July 27, 2021, at the funeral home with Larry Baughn officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Shawn Edward Barham, 38, of Paradise, CA and formerly of Gilman passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021. He was born on April 27, 1983 in Clifton, the son of Barry Albert and Tina (Lord) Barham.

He is survived by four children, Kaydence, Haylie, Sebastian, and Ezzarah Barham, all of California; mother, Tina Barham of Gilman; father, Barry Barham of LaFollette, TN; two brothers, Cory (Lissette) Barham of Gilman and Colby Barham of Gilman; and maternal grandmother, Linda Lord of Chebanse.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jan Lord and paternal grandparents, Albert and Harriett Barham.

Shawn was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing guitar, riding motorcycles, fitness, and loved animals and his family. He attended college at Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State University, and was general sales manager at Sierra Steel Harley Davidson.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service at Gilman United Methodist Church. Rev. Mark Crawford and Rev. Vicki Killus will officiate. Burial will follow at Gilman Cemetery.

Norma Jeanne Custer, 96, of Broken Arrow, OK, formerly of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 8:25 A.M. Friday July 16, 2021, in Tulsa, OK. She was born February 28, 1925, in Cheneyville, IL, the daughter of Charles and Orfa (Troxell) Reed. She married Marvin L. Custer on August 11, 1943. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Judith D. Davis of Broken Arrow, OK; one son, Terry R. (Cynthia) Custer of Peoria, IL; grandchildren, Jason Webb, Chris Webb, Elizabeth Sisson, Tricia Waller, Tami Johnson, Casey Copeland and Graham Custer; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Marlene Bonita Funk, 86, of Onarga passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021 at the Gilman Health Care Center. She was born May 1, 1935 in Clifton, the daughter of Milton and Angela (Green) Demierre and they preceded her in death in addition to one sister.

She married James Funk on December 20, 1991 in Watseka and he survives. Also surviving are one son, Larry (Nancy) Redeker of Crescent City; four step-sons, Tracy Funk of Alabama, Timmy Funk of Watseka, Tony Gamino of Watseka and Philip Gamino; three grandchildren, Jason (Gail) Redeker of Cissna Park, Mallory Redeker of Watseka and Joel (Melissa) Redeker of Crescent City; four great-grandchildren, Peyton, Drayke, Ryenn and Emma Redeker; two brothers, Dennis Demierre of Martinton and Ronald (Myrna) Demierre of Bourbonnais; and one sister, Joan Goodwin of Watseka.

Marlene was a CNA at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.

Michael Joe Starkey, 67, of Champaign, IL, formerly of rural East Lynn, IL, passed away at 12:14 A.M. Sunday July 18, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.  He was born November 8, 1953, in Watseka, IL, the son of Floyd and Jean (Moore) Starkey. 

He is survived by his mother; three sisters, Glenda (Dave) Goble, Debra Militzer, and Lori (Barry) Nudleman; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. 

Michael was a 1971 graduate of Hoopeston High School.  He then joined the United States Air Force where he served for 19 years.  He later worked at Hobbyco in Champaign until his retirement.  Michael loved his cat, Max, and enjoyed watching television. 

Cremation rites will be accorded.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday July 28, 2021, at the Danville National Cemetery in Danville, IL, with Mike Robling officiating.  Military rites will be accorded by the Danville American Legion Post 210.

Raymond W. Bunn, Jr., 71, of Sacramento, CA, passed away on January 18, 2021. 

He was born December 31, 1949, in Tennessee, the son of Raymond W. and Vivian (Seyphers) Bunn Sr.  

Raymond married Deborah Johnson at the First Presbyterian Church in Hoopeston, IL, on December 9, 1972. She survives in Sacramento, CA. 

He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Bennett of Sunnyside, WA and Glenna Murphy of Bristol, TN; one niece, Teri Lain of Sunnyside, WA; and one nephew, Tim Murphy of Bristol, TN. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Bunn. 

Raymond served in the United States Air Force from 1968 until 1972. He worked as a Medical Supply Technician for Kaiser Permanente. He belonged to the fraternal order of the E Clampus Vitus and enjoyed Gold Rush historical information.

Connie Jean Fink, 58, formerly a resident of Rankin, IL, passed away at 4:22 A.M. Sunday July 18, 2021, at her home.  She was born January 11, 1963, in Paxton, IL, the daughter of Donald L. and Valaria Margaret (Sincula) Skinner.  She married Kevin Fink in Hoopeston, IL and he survives. 

She is also survived by one daughter, Paige Hensley of Danville, IL; two sons, Lance Hensley and Chase Hensley both of Danville, IL; two sisters, Linda Loy of Lafayette, IN and Cindy (Gayle) Pate of Greenville, IL; two brothers, Donald J. (Vanessa) Skinner of Mulberry Grove, IL and Terry Skinner of Hoopeston, IL; three grandchildren, Kah’mariontae Cooper, Audra Hensley, and Ariah Hensley; 5 nieces and nephews, Penny Smith, Kimberly Lorentzen, Trinia Riggs, Travis Pate, and Lindsey (Mike) Roeder; 5 great-nieces and nephews; and 2 great great nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; late husband, John E. Hensley; grandparents, Nellie Collins and Walter & Francis Skinner; and step grandparents, Spencer and Dorothy Collins. 

Connie was a mother of three, all of which could do no wrong in her eyes.  She was their strength and the person who they could go to without judgement during any trial and tribulation they faced in life.  She adored her grandchildren and spent a lot of time with them, spoiling them rotten.  Connie’s house had an open-door policy and all of her children’s friends were able to come and go as they pleased.  She was often referred to as, “Mama Connie”.  

Before Connie’s health started to decline and she was still able-bodied, she enjoyed family get-togethers and was especially known for her famous taco salad and chex mix, which were always a hit during the holidays.  She spent lots of time watching her favorite shows, Paranormal Witness and Young and the Restless, reading Woman’s World Magazine and doing crossword puzzles.  Connie had a very special and close relationship with her mother, Valaria, and oftentimes you could find them together, shopping or watching television.  There was not a day they went without talking.    

Connie leaves behind many family members and friends who are completely devastated, and heart broken by her sudden passing.  She will be missed tremendously, and her absence will be felt for years to come.

Darrell Reed Pickett, 77, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 5:25 P.M. Saturday July 17, 2021, at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville, IN. He was born May 22, 1944, in rural Melrose, KY, the son of Bill and Dillie (Savage) Pickett.

He is survived by one daughter, Amber (Ty) Obenland of Carmel, IL; one son, Darren Pickett of Hoopeston, IL; one brother, Charles Pickett of Edmonton, KY; two sisters-in-law, Betty Pickett, and Helen Pickett; one grandson, Tyler Reed Obenland; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Revela; and six brothers, Earl, Rondal, Billy, Ray, Otis, and Danny.

Darrell was a retired United States Army veteran. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded a purple heart medal for being wounded in action. He enjoyed antique cars and building and racing race cars.

James Allen “Jim” Hile, 81, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 8:05 P.M. Thursday July 15, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  He was born June 10, 1940, in Rockford, IL, the son of Claude and Irene (Saunders) Hile.  He married Darlene R. Garrity on February 28, 1976, in Chicago, IL.  She preceded him in death on March 17, 2009. 

He is survived by several cousins and special friend, Jamie Fitzsimmons. 

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. 

Jim worked for Chicago Western Indiana Railroad from 1959-1984.  He then went to work for Amtrack until his retirement in 2002.  He was a member of the Danville Chapter Railroad Museum and enjoyed volunteering his time at the Rossville Railroad Museum.  He enjoyed visiting his aunt who lived in Fort Madison, IA and while there he enjoyed watching the trains cross the Mississippi River bridge and the barges going through the bridge swing span.  When home in Hoopeston, Jim enjoyed watching Traveling Trains on his computer and old Western movies on television.  He also enjoyed going out to eat with his friend, Jamie.  Jim will be missed by all who knew him. 

A private graveside service will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison, IA.

Thomas Carl “Vulture”, Weber, 76 of Normal, IL. formally of Hoopeston, IL passed away at 7:30 P.M. Saturday July 17, 2021, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, IL. He was born July 26, 1944, in Danville, IL, the son of Carl W. and Margaret (Deffenbaugh) Weber. 

Mr. Weber is survived by one sister, Nancy (Roger) Pfingston of Bloomington, IN, one step sister, Carol Gammon of AZ, and several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joanne and Helen Marie. 

Thomas served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970. It was during that time he did a tour in Beihaoa, Vietnam. He then enlisted in the reserve for two years. After serving his country, Mr. Weber then worked as a Union stagehand for Local #193 “International Alliance of Theatrical Stagehands and Motion Picture Machine Operators” for over 38 years. He also worked at numerous other places such as Conklin Players from 1975-1994 and Conklin Barn Two which was a Dinner Theater from 1995-2012. During 1994-1995 he was a Theater Tech in Branson, MO.  

Thomas enjoyed model railroading, trains, and the circus. In his younger years he helped run the Nickel Plate Railroad Register during the summertime, and for 17 years conducted the Rides of Rails. 

Cremation rites will be accorded, and a graveside service will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, IL with Military Rites being accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.  

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Bailee Elizabeth Lauren Cannon, 21, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 12:34 A.M. Thursday July 15, 2021, in Hoopeston.  She was born October 1, 1999, the daughter of Elbert William “Bill” Cannon and Rebecca Ann “Beki” Burton.  They both survive in Hoopeston. 

She is also survived by one daughter, Marley Drew Ann Dean Cordova of Hoopeston, IL; one son, Ryan Kane Cordova of Hoopeston, IL; one sister, Ashton Carswell of Hoopeston, IL; two brothers, Bryant Johnson of Oxford, IN and Skyler Cannon of Hoopeston, IL; grandparents, Steven and Chris Voyles of Hoopeston, IL, Donald and Pam Burton of Danville, IL; grandfather, Bill Gardner; great grandmothers, Charlotte Oteham and Shirley Howie; aunt, Shelley Norton of Tilton, IL; nieces and nephews, Aryanna Buhrmester, Brennan West, Alaya and Alana Edwards, and “Baby Boy” Capree Tolbert; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Bailee enjoyed swimming, gardening, fishing, shopping, and listening to music.  She also enjoyed riding bicycles, searching for rocks and arrow heads, and was a jokester.  She had a heart of gold and will be missed by all who knew her.

Charles G. “Chuck” Schneider, 81, of Kankakee entered the gates of Heaven and met his savior on Friday, July 16, 2021 at his home with his family. He was born July 4, 1940 in Kankakee, the son of H. Glenn and Mary (Lockwood) Schneider. Charles married Judi Saxe on December 7, 1963 in Kankakee and she preceded him in passing on February 6, 2021.

Charles is survived by two sons, Scott Schneider (fiancé Stephanie Wilson) of Milford and Jeff (Tammy) Schneider of Bourbonnais: one brother, David (Christine) Schneider of North Point, FL; four grandchildren, Haley Schneider, Megan (Jacob) Kruse, Andrew (Kirsten) Schneider, and Oliver Schneider (fiancé Jacalyn Wingerter); four great-grandchildren, Illyria and Solara Schneider and Brooklyn and Grace Kruse; and many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by both of his parents; wife, Judi; brother, John Schneider; and two grandchildren, Trevor and Alexander Schneider.

Charles loved collecting skillets and pots or anything related to cast iron. He loved to visit the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee with his family. Charles also loved to tinker around in the yard and in his woods out back. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Kankakee and was a veteran with the United States Army.

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am at the Grace Baptist Church in Kankakee (2499 Waldron Rd.) on Wednesday July, 21, 2021 and a funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at church. Pastor Dwight Ascher will officiate. Burial will follow after the service at Gilman Cemetery in Gilman.

Tim L. Schaumburg, 75, of Milford passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. He was born on December 29, 1945 in Milford, the son of Edwin and Lavonne Ilene (Theesefeld) Schaumburg. He married Joy Ann Lehmann on October 5, 1969 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Schwer and she preceded him in passing on December 22, 2014.

Surviving are four sons, Brent (Paula) Schaumburg of Burlington, KY, Troy (Michelle) Schaumburg of Westville, Jaci (Michelle) Schaumburg of Danville, and Quentin (Audra) Schaumburg of Milford; eleven grandchildren, Katy (Tyler), Stephen (Faith), Matthew, Alec, Cade, Kelsey, Colin, Sydney, Jordan, Klaytin, and Isaac; two great grandchildren, Parker and Theo; one brother, Tyrone (Lyn) Schaumburg of Milford; five sisters, Marleen (Jerry) Purdin of Woodland, April Steiner of Cissna Park, Seiri (David) Schippert of Cissna Park, Holly Milar of Watseka, and Dawn (Donny) Steiner of Cissna Park; his mother in law, Maxine Lehmann of Savoy; brother in law, Lee (Judy) Lehmann of St. Joseph; and a special friend, Betty Hoffman.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Joy Ann.

Mr. Schaumburg was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Schwer, sang with the group Behold, and was a part of the Schaumburg Quartet. He was an active Milford Township Board member, was a lifetime member of the Milford FFA Alumni, and was a lifetime farmer in the Milford area. Tim loved hunting, fishing, and watching his grandkids play sports. He was a forty three year member of Cissna Park American Legion Post 527. He served in the United States Navy. Tim enjoyed making memories with family and friends at his meat shop. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, and loved his dogs.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Schwer. Rev. Steven Jensen will officiate. Military rites will be provided by Cissna Park American Legion Post 527.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Monday, July 19, 2021 at Knapp Funeral Home in Milford.

Alice Elizabeth Thompson, 96, of Potomac, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital, in Urbana.

Alice was born on March 13, 1925, in Conover, North Carolina, the daughter of Lee D. and Carrie Pearl (Cline) Hunsucker.  She married Robert C. Thompson on August 24, 1952, in Washington D.C.  He preceded her in death on July 7, 1989.

She is survived by one daughter- Patricia (John) Morris of Portage, Indiana and one son- Arthur (Laura) Thompson of Brimfield, Illinois; three grandchildren- Chris (Kathy) Freville, Emily (Lucas) Melton and Carol Thompson; and two great-grandchildren- Olivia Freville and Alexander Melton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Alice was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, in Hoopeston.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Sharon Kay Rosenberger, 77, of Armstrong, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, in Danville.

Sharon was born on January 21, 1944, in Cisco, Illinois, the daughter of Olin Burr and Edith Marie (Smith) Wolfe.  She married Fred Dean Rosenberger on December 9, 1966, in Champaign.  He preceded her in death on November 10, 2018.

She is survived by three daughters- Lori (Kirk) Donovan of Mansfield, Sherry Rosenberger of Houston, Texas and Robin Rosenberger of Rantoul; two sons- Scott Wolfe of Bismarck and Jesse (Stephanie Kirby) Rosenberger of Armstrong; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister- Darlene Hacker of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and seven sisters.

Sharon was an amazing grandmother and loved taking care of everybody.  She enjoyed riding horses and farm life, especially taking care of the animals.  She also enjoyed camping and working with her husband Fred, at Rolling Hills Campground.

M. Arlene Miller, 91, of Hoopeston, passed away at 10:11 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at Carle Hoopeston Regional Medical Center.

Arlene was born on January 15, 1930, in rural East Lynn, to Richard and Rae (Rusk) Hatfield.  She graduated from East Lynn High School.  On November 13, 1965 she married Lowell Miller, at First Presbyterian Church, in Hoopeston.  He preceded her in death on December 26, 2010.

Her parents, five brothers- Harlan, Ronald, Robert, Earl and Jim, and an infant sister- Mary Elizabeth preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sisters- Jean Eighner and Margaret Sims, both of Hoopeston and many nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hoopeston, joining on March 30, 1958.  She served her church as elder, deacon, paying treasurer and receiving treasurer.  For 33 years, she was a bookkeeper and office manager for local contractors.

Arlene was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a charter member of the Hoopeston Hospital Auxiliary and served as its first treasurer.  She also served as Hoopeston City Treasurer for 18 years.  She was active in the local chapters of the American Cancer Society and the United Way, as well as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Hoopeston Historical Society.  She and her husband delivered SAMS meals for many years.

A Celebration of Life for M. Arlene Miller open house will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2021, at the 112 Wine and Coffee Shoppe, 112 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL 60942.

Edward M. Jones, 90, of Hoopeston, IL passed away at 5:20 P.M. Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston.   He was born September 18, 1930, in Rossville, IL., the son of Morris and Vivian (Hall) Jones.  He married Phyllis Scott on September 5, 1954 at the Tab Christian Church in Warren County Indiana.  She survives in Hoopeston. 

He is also survived by one daughter, Debra S. Winters of Hoopeston, IL; one son Edward A. “Mudcat” Jones of Hoopeston, IL; one sister – in- law, Phyllis Jones of Kingman, IN; two grandchildren, Rachel Jones and Michelle Jones, three great grandchildren, and one great – great grandchild. 

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, one infant sister, three sisters, and four brothers. 

Upon returning from serving in the Marines, Ed worked for Bob Smythe at the City Service Station.  He later took a job at Radio Condenser.  Ed then worked at FMC for thirty-seven years until his retirement.  He was a member of the First Christian Church, the American Legion, the VFW, and the Hoopeston Moose Lodge.  Ed enjoyed working and staying busy, volunteering at the Sweetcorn Festival 5K, doing odd jobs for people, and lending a helping hand to anyone that needed it.  Most of all, Ed enjoyed spending time with his family and for the last two years enjoyed traveling to Texas for the winter. 

A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and begin at 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at the funeral home with Shawon Wise officiating.  The burial will follow at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston with Military Rites being accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.

Charles H. “Herbie” Voyles, Jr., 73, of Wellington, IL, passed away on Sunday July 4, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  He was born August 30, 1947, in Danville, IL, the son of Charles H. Voyles Sr. and Marilene (Miller) Voyles Romig.  He married Nancy Deyo on December 20, 1969, in Colorado Springs, CO.  She survives in Wellington. 

He is also survived by two daughters, Bonnie Voyles of Paxton, IL and Kelly Voyles-Rutledge of Gibson City, IL; his favorite furry child, Teddy; two sisters, Marsha Lockhart of Williston, FL and Amy (Butch) Boyd of Williston, FL; one brother, Dennis (Karen) Voyles of Cedar Key, FL; two grandchildren, Charlize and Brett Rutledge; and 3 furry grand-dogs, Daisy, Sammy, and Midge. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two nieces, Melody Mencer and Bobby Jo “B.J.” Adams. 

Herbie drove a semi for over twenty years and later owned Spud’s Tire and Exhaust.  He then worked at Hoopeston Foods until his retirement.  He served in the United States Army where he served two tours during the Vietnam War.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW where he had served as past Commander of VFW Post 4826.  Herbie enjoyed playing cribbage with friends, mowing his lawn, and going fishing with his buddy, Roy. 

Cremation rites will be accorded.  A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Friday July 16, 2021, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.   The memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. Friday July 16, 2021, at the funeral home.  Military rites will be accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.

Ashley Deck, 35, of Rossville, IL, gained her angel wings on Tuesday July 6, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  She was born April 1, 1986, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Lance and Tina (Boys) Deck.   

She is survived by her parents; one sister, Autumn (Pete) Herron of Rossville, IL; two nieces, Olivia and Elizabeth who were also her goddaughters; nephew, Gerd; godson, Dean; and goddaughter, Maeva.  She is also survived by her brothers and sisters not by blood but by love, Donnie, Felicia, Tim (Danielle), and Stacy (Mike); many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were like family. 

She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and her dog, Corky. 

Ashley worked as a CNA at the Danville hospital and later at Hawthorne Inn.  She was a very family-oriented person, and they meant the world to her.  Her nieces were her pride and joy, and she was her sister’s very best friend.  She was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed the couple of games that she attended.  Ashley never met a stranger and would give the shirt off her back to anyone that needed it.  She is going to be greatly missed by everyone who loved her.

Larry Dale Coon, 85, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 1:20 A.M. Monday July 5, 2021, at Accolade Heathcare of Paxton on Pells in Paxton, IL.  He was born September 27, 1935, in Hoopeston, IL, the son of Earl and Leila (Wise) Coon.  He married Phyllis Yarno on June 8, 1957, at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Hoopeston.  She preceded him in death. 

He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Pat) Overlander of Hoopeston, IL and Robin (Frank) Jackson of St. Joseph, IL; one son, Joe Coon of Hoopeston, IL; two sisters, Shirley (Erby) Denney of Rossville, IL and Janice Polson of Hoopeston, IL; three brothers, John (Linda) Coon of Ocala, FL, Alfie (Karla) Coon of Hoopeston, IL and Sammy (Marilyn) Coon of Hoopeston, IL; four grandchildren, Tony (Lucy) Overlander of Hoopeston, IL, Emily (Chad) Defenbaugh of Appleton, WI, Jordan (Maya Clemmons) Overlander of Hoopeston, IL, and Matthew Jackson of St. Joseph, IL; six great-grandchildren, Logan, Hudson, and Olivia Defenbaugh, Nora Overlander, and Quinn and Betsy Overlander; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Donna and Jeanie; four brothers, Don, Jim, Bill, and Danny; and one brother-in-law, Gene Polson. 

Larry worked at FMC in Hoopeston as a Tool and Die Maker for 43 years and later worked at Greene’s Galvanized Stairs in East Lynn.  He had been member of the Illiana Antique Auto Club since 1963 where he had served as president for two terms.  He was also a member of the Advisory Board for the Secretary of State Antique Auto Show.  He served as Chairman of the Sweetcorn Festival car show for over 25 years and judged many shows.  Larry was a past little league coach and assistant coach of girls’ softball.  He also enjoyed working on bicycles out of his garage for many Hoopeston residents. 

Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.  A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Thursday July 15, 2021, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Allen J. Carley, 101 of Danforth and formerly of Milford passed away on Sunday June 27, 2021 at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth. He was born on June 2, 1920 in Crescent Twp., a son of Adam J. and Ollie C. Smith Carley. Allen married Velma E. Scheiwe in the same house in rural Milford that he was born, on December 25, 1941 and they were blessed with nearly 78 years of marriage. Velma preceded him in death on October 24, 2019. Survivors include - Dr. Leon (Janet) Carley of South Beloit, IL, Verla Carley of Milford, Bonita Rajala of Watseka, Virginia (Bob) Buhr of Milford, and Kenton (Lisa) Carley of Milford; ten grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother- LaVern Carley, one sister- Dorothy Werkau, one son- Russell Carley, two grandsons- Jeffrey Buhr and Scott Carley, one daughter in law- Shari Carley, and one son in law- Bruce Rajala.

Allen spent his childhood in the rural Milford area attending the Prairie Center one room grade school through 8th grade. He attended Woodland High School, Crescent High School, and graduated from Watseka Community High School in 1937. After high school, he graduated from the Utility Engineering Institute in Chicago. Farming was his passion and profession his entire life. He was a director of the Iroquois County Soil and Conservation for several years, charter member of Professional Farmers of America, member of the Farm Bureau, was a drainage commissioner for 30 years, and past member of the Farmers Union. Allen received many tractor pulling awards over the years including 1st place Points Trophy and 2nd place trophy for National Corns Growers Association. In 1953 he organized Little League in Crescent City and coached Little League, Babe Ruth League, and American Legion baseball for many years. Allen was a lifetime member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Crescent City and active in many organizations within the church especially Men in Mission where he served as President. He was secretary of the Building Committee during the church addition and was the oldest member of St. Peters Dartball Team. Allen became active in golf during his later years and was a past member of Shagbark, Grandview, and Shewami Country Club.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday July 10, 2021 at 12 noon at St Peters Lutheran Church in Crescent City with Rev. Joel Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30am to 12 noon prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will be in St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery. Charles “Herb” Voyles Jr., 73, of Wellington, IL, passed away at 3:14 A.M. Sunday July 4, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.  Arrangements are pending at Anderson Funeral Home in Hoopeston. 

Jerry E. Hubbard, 56, of Hoopeston, passed away at 6:23 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021, at his home.

Jerry was born on November 26, 1964, in Kankakee, the son of Tomey Eugene and Alvis Lorene (Leggett) Hubbard. 

He is survived by one daughter- Nicohl Hubbard-Gore of Portageville, Missouri; special friend- Susan Lambert of Hoopeston; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry loved Harley Davidson motorcycles, making things and he loved his dog, Bella.  He also enjoyed spending time with his friends.

Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Walker, 63, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 7:24 P.M. Wednesday June 30, 2021, at her home.  She was born December 12, 1957, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Reba M. Hudson and she was also raised by her father, Leo Calvert.  She married Rocky Walker on February 15, 1997, in Hoopeston.  He survives in Hoopeston.   

She is also survived by two daughters, Carey Anne (Jeremy) Green of Hoopeston, IL and Jessica Renee Walker of Mahomet, IL; one son, Willy Walker of Hoopeston, IL; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and step-father, Darrell Pickett. 

Cindy was a homemaker.  She enjoyed going to concerts, traveling to Nashville, going on rides with her husband, and listening to music, especially Elvis Presley.

John “Jack” Kohl, 84, of Watseka passed away on June 30, 2021 at Piper City Rehab & Living Center.

He was born on June 23, 1937 in Watseka, the son of Henry and Nettie (McCloskey) Kohl and they preceded him in death along with one brother, Jerry Kohl, and one nephew, Mark Kohl.

He married Mary Dubea on October 11, 1969 in Iroquois and she survives. Other survivors include one son, John (Kathy) Kohl of Woodstock; one daughter, Kim (Ryan) Zufall of New Berlin; and six grandchildren, Meghan and Anna Zufall, John and Katie Kohl, and Evan and Derek Ambre.

Jack served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Watseka. He was employed at Uarco for 42 years as a proof assembler. Jack was an avid Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks fan.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday, July 5, 2021 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Joe Hughes will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Dell Cemetery in Iroquois with graveside military rites by Watseka American Legion Post #23 and Iroquois County VFW Post #7450.

MaryBelle Smock, 92, of Danville, formerly of Rossville, IL, passed away at 9:54 A.M. Tuesday June 29, 2021, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.  She was born January 19, 1929, in Lafayette, IN, the daughter of Marion and MaryEtta Bower but she lived with her aunt and uncle, Tom and Mary Richardson, since she was 12 years old.  She married James Thomas “Jack” Smock on June 21, 1947, in Rossville, IL.  He survives in Danville. 

She is also survived by one daughter, Jackie Louise (James) Morse of Danville, IL; two sons, Thomas Eugene (Carol) Smock of Danville, IL and James William “Bill” (Lynn) Smock of Rossville, IL; one sister, Carolyn Wagner of Florida; one brother, Larry Bower of Kentucky; five grandchildren, Jamie (Tammy) Morse, Josie (Chanc) Persons, Jannah (Geoff) Coon, Brandy (Thad) Townsend, and Rusti Stahl; twelve great-grandchildren, Tyler (Lindsey) Morse, Maddie Morse, Alex Morse, Andy (Megan) Savage, Thomas Savage, Mason Coon, Aiden Coon, Kyerra (Christopher Hudson) Townsend, Jayce Townsend, Luke Townsend, Kya Stahl, and Hunter Stahl; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her Aunt Mary and Uncle Tom Richardson; and several brothers and sisters. 

MaryBelle worked at the Rossville Post Office for 25 years until her retirement.  She attended CrossRoads Christian Church in Danville.  In their younger years, she and her husband enjoyed trail riding on their horses with their friends.  After retirement, they enjoyed vacationing in Florida for five months every winter.  MaryBelle also enjoyed reading, going for walks, and going on senior trips to Las Vegas with her Aunt Mary.  Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
