Elinor T. Knapp, 80 of Watseka passed away on Tuesday April 20, 2021 at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. She was born on July 20, 1940 in Lutesville, MO a daughter of James and Alma Mae Baker Elledge. Elinor married Norman D. Knapp in Watseka on October 14, 2015 and he preceded her in death on April 14, 2019. Survivors include one daughter- Tammy Marie Brown of Lombard; one son- Robert Eugene Reed of Chicago; two grandchildren- Terry Lynn Brown and Sharon Nicole Brown; one great granddaughter- Kayla M. Clay; one brother- Carbon Elledge of MO; one sister- Nola Braddy of WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and two sisters.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Cissna Park. The ministers of the church will officiate.

Virgil Eugene Wulffe, 93, of Clifton passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno. He was born on May 17, 1927 in Chebanse Twp., the son of John and Mary (Kohl) Wulffe.

He married Klara “Kalie” Stiglmair on January 31, 1953 in Windsor, Ontario (Canada) and she preceded him in death on July 26, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one son, James; and one grandson, Brandon.

Virgil is survived by one daughter, Rev. Christine (Steve) Schoon of Somonauk; one son, William (Lynn) Wulffe of Chebanse; two granddaughters, Andrea (Jesus) Marquez of Clifton and Kendra Schoon of Frankfort; three great-grandchildren, Antonio, Selina, and Nicholas Marquez, all of Clifton; sister-in-law, Marian Wulffe of Kankakee; and several nephews and great-nephews.

Mr. Wulffe was a US Army veteran and served in Korea from 1950-1953. He was a member of Clifton VFW Post #2131 and Sts. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Chebanse. He was also a farmer and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, and being in his woods.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. memorial service at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. Fr. Vern Arseneau will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Clifton with graveside military rites by Clifton VFW Post #2131.

Ethel L. Franklin, 91, of Perryville, MO, formerly of Hoopeston, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2021, at her home.

Ethel was born on March 4, 1930, in Clarence, Illinois, the daughter of Guy and Opia (Bennett) Downing.  She married Richard Earl Franklin Jr. on July 18, 1964, in Hoopeston.  He preceded her in death on December 15, 1987.

She is survived by one daughter- Kristie Huber of Perryville, MO; one step-son- Steve (Emma) Franklin of Pinellas Park, Florida; six grandchildren- Todd (Amy) Huber, Tim (Amanda) Huber, Kyle Huber, Sam Franklin, Joshua Franklin and Mark (Lauralea) Franklin; six great-grandchildren; one brother- Roy (Judy) Downing of Potomac; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother- Harold Downing and sister- Evelyn Shelton.

Ethel graduated from Armstrong High School.  She worked at TRW, in Hoopeston, for several years, until her husband passed away and she began working as an in-home health care worker.  Ethel was a member of the Potomac Church of Christ. She enjoyed playing golf in her younger years, spending time with her friends and family and she was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.

A Celebration of Ethel’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2021, at Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac, with Pastor Randy Walters officiating.  She will be laid to rest following the services in Floral Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Potomac Church of Christ.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Ethel’s life.

Norma Faye Clark, 91, of Crescent City passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021 at her home. She was born on November 10, 1929 in Watseka, the daughter of Arthur J. and Cora Mae (Aber) Harwood.

She married Russell A. Clark Jr. on April 1, 1948 in Crescent City and he preceded her in death on February 16, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one infant brother.

Norma is survived by four daughters, Theresa Fowler of Watseka, Melody (Raul) Andrade of Crescent City, Charlotte (Scott) Strawser of Hoopeston, and Rosalind Clark of Rantoul; one son, Frederick (Penny) Clark of Kentland, IN; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Clark was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Crescent City, American Legion Auxiliary, and was a life member of Iroquois County Historical and Genealogical Society. She was a graduate of Crescent City High School in 1947 and was employed at Electronic Components and Watseka Rehab and Healthcare Center for thirty-eight years. Norma was a former leader of Crescent City Arrowcrest 4-H Club, and was also a former Cub Scout den leader and Girl Scout Rainbow Council leader. She enjoyed genealogy of the Harwood and Stewart families.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m.

Charlotte Raynor, 62, of Ashkum passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021 at Arcadia Care of Clifton. She was born on June 22, 1958 in Tampa, FL, the daughter of Ernest and Deloris Raynor.

Surviving are one son, Ernest Morrison of Fairview Heights, IL; friend, Laurie Meier of Ashkum; two aunts, Edwina Dolack of Greenwood, IN and JoAnne Barber of Rochester, IL; four cousins, Rita Dolack of Indianapolis, IN, Gina (Bryan) Geeser of Martinsville, IN, Richard Dolack Jr. of Manor, PA and Robert Dolack of Zionsville, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Ronald Morrison.

Charlotte loved animals, playing BINGO, and was a big fan of Tyler Reddick of NASCAR. She had a passion for the Chicago Cubs.

Teodulo “Lolo” “Teddy” Rivera, 79, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away on Thursday April 22, 2021, at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center.  He was born February 17, 1942, in Durango, Mexico, the son of Felix and Maria (Gomez) Rivera.  He married Luz Ruiz and she survives in Hoopeston. 

A private visitation will be held.  Following the visitation, cremation rites will be accorded, and burial will be held at a later date.

Andrew James Miguel, 17, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away on Thursday April 22, 2021 at his home.  He was born October 26, 2003 in Danville, IL, the son of Jimmy Miguel and Amanda Merrill whom both survive. 

He is also survived by three sisters, Sara, Savanna, and Julie Miguel; one brother, Brent Miguel; maternal grandmother, Deborah Merrill; paternal grandmother, Kathleen Annicelli; step-grandfather, Baves Miguel; special grandpa, Steve Goin; paternal great-grandmother, Shirley Miguel; maternal great-grandfather, Raymond Merrill; a special aunt, Dion Merrill and special aunt and uncle, John and Lindsey Miguel and several other aunts and uncles. 

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John “Papa” Miguel and uncle, Jeff “Hefty” Heffelfinger. 

Andrew was involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts since an early age.  He was a Life Scout and was involved in the National Youth Leadership training, the Order of Arrow, and was an avid marksman in arrow and shooting.  He attended Hoopeston Area High School where he was active in the Game Club, marching band, jazz band, chorus, and was involved in the combo for show choir.  He loved being on the computer, playing with nerf guns, collecting playing cards and polar bears, playing poker, and spending time with his family.  Andrew aspired to be a music teach or an English teacher. 

A visitation will be held 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. Wednesday April 28, 2021 at the Hoopeston Middle School Gymnasium 615 E. Orange St. Hoopeston, IL.  A memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday at the school with Shawon Wise officiating.  Cremation rites will be accorded, and burial will be held at a later date.

Peggy Lee “Peg” (Kissack) Pritchard, 65, of Racine, WI, formerly of the Milford, IL area, passed away on March 18, 2021 at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care in Oak Creek, WI.  She was born April 5, 1955, in Watseka, IL, the daughter of Francis “Frank” and Doris (Webster) Kissack. 

She is survived by one daughter, Michelle (Jim) Bailey of Hoopeston, IL; three sisters, Laura “Diane” (Roger) Wall of Morris, IL, Carla (Mike) McCabe of Manhattan, IL, and Dawn Kissack of Glen Ellyn, IL; one sister-in-law, Dana Kissack of Milford, IL; one granddaughter, Alexa Rae Bailey of Hoopeston, IL and several nieces and nephews that she spoiled any chance that she got.  She is also survived by two very special nieces and caretakers, Mandy (Boyd) Becker and Stacy (Mike Moriarity) Kincade and their children, all from Wisconsin.   

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Vickie Kissack, Steve Kissack, and Bruce Kissack; and step-parents, Dolores and James Wesley “Wes” Kissack. 

Peggy worked many manufacturing and retail jobs in the Milford and Watseka area, until retiring from Walmart 5 years ago.  She was very active at Albert House in Racine, WI where she started a Bingo club, a community garden, and set up a squirrel and bird feeding reservoir.  Her hobbies included gardening, wildlife, and nature.  Peggy was also a very good artist. 

The family would like to give a special thanks to Michele Treiber and Heidi Tradewell for taking such good care and being such good friends to Peggy over the course of a few years.  Thank you to the staff at Ascension Hospital in Racine, WI, and Seasons Hospice Care in Oak Creek, WI for all the wonderful care they gave.  Also, a very special thank you to Mary Ann Kincade for all the wonderful love and support over the years, as well as the many friends and family who have reached out offering their prayers, love, and support during this time. 

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Saturday May 8, 2021 at the Milford Christian Church 811 E. Hickory St. Milford, IL.  A memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Donna Kay (Putnam) Carpenter, 66, of Potomac, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital, in Urbana.

Donna was born on August 18, 1954, in Morgan County, Indiana, the daughter of George “Shorty” and Grace L. “Vernie” (Neff) Putnam.  She married James Carpenter on July 23, 1983, at the #10 Church of Christ.  He survives.

She is also survived by her son- Nicholas Putnam Carpenter-Applegate of Champaign; granddaughter- Angel Applegate; three brother- Bob Drake of Cincinnati, Ohio, William Ray Norman Indianapolis, Indiana and Jon Stotts of Louisville, Kentucky; sister- Stella Patton of Indianapolis, Indiana; and aunt- Bernice Poyer of Collison.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Donna graduated from Armstrong High School, in 1972.  She worked as a florist for several years, as a manager at Brash Flower Shop and later owner/operator of Nature’s Garden that later became Donna’s Flower Shop, in Potomac.  She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Royal.  Donna was very active in community organizations and she loved helping and giving to the community.  She enjoyed fishing and riding with Jim on the motorcycle.  Donna never knew a stranger and loved her family very much, especially her son.

Susan Eileen Slaughter, 58 of Paxton, passed away at 9:50 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2021, at her home.

Private family services were held at Hudson Township Cemetery. Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton assisted the family with arrangements.

Susan was born May 22, 1962 in Bloomington the daughter of Willis Earl and Doris May Sparks Slaughter, Sr. She graduated from Normal Community High School in 1980 and from the University of Cosmetology in 1980. Susan retired from Kroger in 2005.

She is survived by an exceptional caregiver and the love of her life, Brian Conklin; three brothers Will Slaughter of Bloomington, Terry Slaughter of Danvers, Bill and Mary Slaughter of El Paso; 12 nieces and nephews, 29 or so great nieces and nephews, some great-great nieces and nephews, friends of around 40 years, Steve and Sharon Quiram of Hudson and her 6 fur babies.

Estella Pearl Crawford, 91, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 1:47 P.M. Monday April 19, 2021 at her home.  She was born March 23, 1930 in Hoopeston, the daughter of Altas B. Cox and Eula (Grismore) Cox McBride.  She married Frank Crawford Sr. on September 29, 1946 in Hoopeston.  He preceded her in death on January 12, 1972. 

She is survived by three daughters, Marcella “Jacki” Romine of Kannapolis, NC, Missy (Elroy) Huckleby of Lafayette, IN, and Melinda (Steve) Crawford of Bismarck, IL; four sons, Frank (Darla) Crawford of Hoopeston, IL, Jack (Marilyn) Crawford of Williamsport, IN, Alan (Selena) Crawford of Hoopeston, IL and Mark Crawford of Lafayette, IN; 19 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Marsha Wilburn and Maria Crawford; four sisters; one brother; one granddaughter, Lori Gress; and two grandsons, Frank Crawford III and Travis Crawford. 

Estella worked as an LPN at Hoopeston Hospital and later worked at the VA Hospital in Danville for over ten years before her retirement.  While working at the VA she was awarded LPN of the year. She also served as a volunteer at the Hoopeston Multi Agency.  Estella’s hobbies included crocheting, quilting, and embroidery.  Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.

Roscoe Cross, 89, of Hoopeston, passed away at 5:10 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2021, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, in Danville.

Roscoe was born on October 19, 1931, in Metcalfe County, Kentucky, the son of William Thomas and Lola Mae (Pointer) Cross. 

He is survived by his significant other- Barbara Peercy of Hoopeston.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Roscoe worked as a farmer and at Joan of Arc, for 15 years.  He enjoyed fishing.

Margaret Jeanette Couch, 94, formerly of Owensville, Ind., and currently of Hoopeston, Ill., passed away April 17, 2021, at Autumn Fields Adult Community, Hoopeston. 

Jeanette was born May 25, 1926, to the late Orville and Anna (Gordon) Barrett. She graduated from Owensville High School in 1944 and married George Melvin Couch on Sept. 25, 1948. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before his passing. In 1951, she and Melvin welcomed their first son, William “Bill” Barrett Couch. In 1956, son Bobby Lee Couch was born and passed away.   

She worked as a secretary at the Owensville Convalescent Home and then opened The Gifted Shop, a craft consignment shop in Owensville. She was also a proud farm wife, and attended many cattle shows across the country for son, Bill. 

Jeanette and Melvin could be found at many Gibson County Fairs and Owensville Watermelon Festivals through the years with their homemade ice cream and “hokey pokey” stand. She was also an avid baker, and her homemade angel food cake and Italian cream cake were crowd favorites. 

A strong faith in God always radiated from within Jeanette, and she was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman. She and Melvin were longtime members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where Jeanette was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Women and church choir; and then of the First Christian Church of Owensville, where she and Melvin were baptized together.  

Jeanette always welcomed others with hospitality, shared gifts, and enjoyed serving the community in a variety of ways, including serving on the Owensville Cemetery Board. She was honored for that service by being named the 2016 Owensville Watermelon Festival Parade Grand Marshall.  

Jeanette’s greatest pride came through her family, of which she spoke often. She is survived by grandson, Willy, and his wife, Tracie, Marshall, Okla.; granddaughter, Christy Couch Lee, and her husband, Craig, Wellington, Ill.; and three great-grandchildren: Waylon Lee, Nolan Lee, and Caroline Lee, also of Wellington. She is also survived by siblings Rebecca Marvel, Rosetta Dunigan, and Jerry Barrett, all of Owensville.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Anna; husband, Melvin; sons, Bill and Bobby; and siblings, Francis Barrett, Robert Barrett, Marilyn Gwaltney, and Carolyn Barrett.  

A funeral service celebrating Jeanette’s life will be held Friday, April 23, 2021, at 11 a.m., at the Owensville First Christian Church, 4680 W State Road 168, Owensville, Ind., with Bart Newton officiating. Burial will follow at the Owensville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 5-7 p.m., at the church.

Joshua Joseph “Skunk” Edwards, 43, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 11:14 A.M. Sunday April 11, 2021, in Danville. He was born November 6, 1977, in Danville, IL, the son of Terry and Sharon (Czeiszperger) Edwards.  His father survives in Hoopeston. 

He is also survived by one daughter, Katie Edwards of Fultondale, AL; one son, Joseph A. Edwards of Alvin, IL; two sisters, Lainey Brown of Escondido, CA and Tammy (Carroll) Jerome of Hoopeston, IL; two brothers, Terry Edwards of Maui, HI and Jeremiah Edwards of Bloomington, MN; and five nieces and nephews, Allison Brown, Emily Brown, Lena Edwards, Lilly Jerome, and Terry Edwards. 

He was preceded in death by his mother in 2017. 

Josh worked for the Roofers Local 97 for over 20 years.

Janice Louise “Jan” Kuhns, 93, of Rossville, IL, passed away at 9:25 A.M. Monday March 22, 2021 at her home.  She was born July 7, 1927, in Clinton, IN, the daughter of Cassel and Louise (Jordan) Kuhns.   

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jack Kuhns. 

Jan graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in music.  After graduation, she began teaching music at Rossville Grade School where she taught for many years.  She loved playing golf and was a member of Hubbard Trail Country Club.  She also enjoyed playing Bridge and teaching the game to young people.

Sandra K. McCalla, 76, of Milford passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 at her home. She was born on January 5, 1945 in Atlantic City, NJ, and raised in rural Indiana, the daughter of Carl and Thelma Irene (Wilson) Bressie.

She married Orville “Dick” McCalla Jr. on January 28, 1967 in Wolcott, IN and he preceded her in death on January 12, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Sandra is survived by one son, Sean (Becky) McCalla of Milford, one daughter, Shannon Stocking of Paxton; five grandchildren, Sgt. Alec Stocking of Fort Riley, KS, 2nd Lt. Erin Stocking of Lincoln, NE, Hannah (T.J.) Kummerfeldt of Cortland, IN, Emma Stocking (Tim Tabor) of Paxton, and Kendall McCalla of Milford; and one sister, Lois (Dan) Farrell of Bradenton, FL.

Mrs. McCalla was a member of the Milford Christian Church and the Iroquois County Bootkickers. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, reading, knitting, and spending time with family.

Josh “Buzz” Herscher, 39, of Onarga passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at his home. He was born on May 21, 1981 in Kankakee, the son of Dennis Herscher and Diane Harrison.

Josh married Shelly Kuehling in Gilman on October 23, 2004 and she survives. He is also survived by one son, Wyatt Herscher of Onarga; one daughter, Jovie Herscher of Onarga; father, Dennis (Debbie) Herscher of Gilman; mother, Diane Herscher of Florida; mother-in-law, Cheryl Kuehling of Bloomington; father-in-law, Paul Kuehling of LeRoy; one brother, Joel (Melissa) Herscher of Naperville; two sisters, Kara (Dave) Piper of Peotone and Nina (Clay) Lindhorst of Waterloo; materal grandmother, Roberta “Barney” Harrison of Gilman; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Herscher was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilman and owner/operator of K&H Truck Plaza. He loved camping at the timber, mudding on the ATV, attending Cubs games, and being with his family. Josh was always there for someone in need or to lend a hand to help a friend. He was compassionate, generous, and patient.

Memorial mass will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gliman. Fr. Marek Herbut will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Knapp-Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman.

William “Bill” L. Swan, 96, of Hoopeston, passed away at 8:35 AM Friday, April 9^th, 2021, at his home.

 Bill was born on September 1^st, 1924, in Blanchard Michigan, the son of Arthur and Theda (Allen) Swan.  He married Beverly Hutchinson on August 17^th, 1946, in Blanchard Michigan. She preceded him in death January of 1998. He later married Marguerite “Marg” Shoufler on June 22^nd, 2002, in Hoopeston.  She survives.

He is also survived by three daughters-Starane (Dan) Crandell of Charlevoix, MI, Gailee (Casey) Wilkins of Mt. Pleasant, MI and Kimi (Denny) Munger of West Branch, MI; two step-children- Marsha (Richard) Woodard of Danville and Herb (Shari) Shoufler of Mason, Ohio; seven grandchildren- Kathy (Godfrey) Abuya, Sherry (Steve) Kujawa, Jennifer (Charlie) Cline, Katelyn (Sean) Carey, Justin Munger, Kara (Keith) Osmond and Carly Munger; four step-grandchildren- Sara Woodard, Ashley (David) Knecht, Tiffany Dimmick and Samantha Shoufler; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law- Martin Simon of Canton, MI; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father- Arthur Swan, mother-Theda Earl, wife- Beverly Swan, brothers- James and Donald Swan, sister-in-law’s- Lois Simon and Mary Swan, and great-granddaughter- Kennedy Osmond.

Bill graduated from Blanchard High School, in 1943. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946, spending time in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.  Bill began working at Leonard Refinery in 1948, at Mount Pleasant, MI and later Total Refinery, in Alma Michigan, until his retirement in 1987.  He was a member of the Hoopeston First Christian Church and Hoopeston American Legion.  Bill enjoyed playing solitaire, reading, fishing, camping, traveling, and loved dancing. He also enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 13th, 2021, at the Blurton Funeral Home, in Hoopeston.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Bill's name to the land of Lincoln Honor Flight, 57 Country Place, Springfield, Illinois 62703 or to the donor’s choice.  He will be laid to rest following funeral services in Michigan, at Pine River Cemetery, in Blanchard Michigan.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Bill's life. Marilyn McMillan, 84, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 12:10 P.M. Friday April 9, 2021 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston.  She was born August 3, 1936, in Greenup, IL, the daughter of Gerald and LaVerne (DeVall) Thomas. She married R. Tommy McMillan on August 21, 1959 in Greenup, IL.  He preceded her in death on November 25, 2018. 

She is survived by one daughter, Rhonda (John) Watson of Glasgow, KY; three sons, Eric (Karla) McMillan of Hoopeston, IL, Shaun (Annette) McMillan of Wellington, IL, and Anthony McMillan of Hoopeston, IL; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Thomas Dueker and Garnet Angle McMillan; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 9 nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by parents; one sister, JoAnn (Bud) Thomas Dyer; three brothers, Fred (Lois) Thomas, John Thomas, and Bill (Verna) Thomas; and one brother-in-law, Rhondel McMillan. 

Marilyn was a homemaker, caring for her family.  She was a member of the United Brethren Church in Claytonville.  In her younger years, she served as Cub Scout Master for Pack 118 in Hoopeston for many years.  Marilyn enjoyed embroidery, sewing, quilting, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed socializing with her friends from Henning’s Restaurant.

Lowell Ray Eells, 89, of rural Rossville, IL, passed away at 4:35 P.M. Thursday April 8, 2021 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  He was born on January 26, 1932 in rural Rankin, IL, the son of Harold and Elizabeth (Shinneman) Eells.   

He graduated from East Lynn High School.  Ray served in the United States Army and was in the Korean War as a machine gunner and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge.  He later served as a military policeman.  He was one of five brothers to serve our country.   

After service in the Army, he graduated from Eastern Illinois University where he met and married Sara Williamson on November 1, 1958.  Ray and Sara were able to enjoy nearly 30 years together until Sara’s death on October 12, 1988.  To this union was born a son, David Wayne (Lori) Eells of Rossville, IL and daughters, Jacqueline Leigh (Clark) Potter of Alvin, IL and Elizabeth Faye (Mick) Braddock of Rossville, IL. Also surviving are grandchildren, Natalie (Will) Rayfield, Dani (Nate) Boyer, Clayton (Angelica) Potter, Lauren (Jordan) Stream, Anthony Eells, Whitney Braddock, Cody Eells, and Lyndey (Tyler) Selsor; great-grandchildren, Jacy and Brynlee Boyer, Charly and Bradly Rayfield, Deiter Weisgerber, Kendyll Selsor, Loreli and Isla Stream and Baby Stream due June 2021; one brother, Donald (Nancy) Eells; three sisters, Maxine Houmes, Leona Houmes, and Lois Harness; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Eells and Shirley Eells; and several nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his friend, Leona York. 

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Edson Eells, Jerry Eells, and Dick Eells; two brothers-in-law, Dale Houmes and Sharon Houmes; one niece, Susan Eells; and two nephews, Greg Eells and Kevin Eells. 

Ray taught Industrial Vocational classes for 35 years at East Lynn High School and Bismarck-Henning High School.  He was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Rossville American Legion Post #733 where he served in the Color Guard and was an officer for many years and was a member of the VFW Post #1826 in Hoopeston.  Ray enjoyed spending time with his family and helping perform any task that needed done.  He also enjoyed sports, especially IU basketball.  In his younger years, Ray enjoyed horseback riding with family and friends. He also enjoyed building and refinishing old furniture.

Rick Highfill, 66, of Milford, passed away at 3:05 PM Thursday, April 8th, 2021, at his home.

Rick was born on October 7th, 1954, in Watseka, Illinois, the son of Charles E and Joyce Ann (Walker) Highfill. He married Charlene Daniels on July 6th, 1974, at the Milford Christian Church. She survives.

He is also survived by one daughter-Susan Highfill of Milford; one son- Derek (Angela) Highfill of Hoopeston; two grandchildren-Joie and Cory Girdler; one brother-Ed (Carol) Highfill of Milford; one sister-Tammy (Jim) Kunce of Milford; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rick graduated from Milford high school in 1972. He worked for several years at Iroquois Paving and later at KVCC, until his retirement. He served for over 20 years as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for the Milford Fire Protection District. Rick was also a member of #841 Operators Union and the Milford Christian Church. He enjoyed watching westerns, camping, playing cards, woodworking, building things, and model railroading. Rick's greatest enjoyment was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

A Celebration of Rick's Life will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 13th, 2021, at the Milford Christian Church, in Milford, with Pastors Gary Milton and Neil Larimore officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, April 12th, 2021 and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Milford Christian Church. Clarence A. Denton Jr., 77, of Watseka, IL, formerly of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 3:40 A.M. Thursday April 8, 2021 at Kindred Hospital Northwest Indiana in Hammond, IN.  He was born July 11, 1943 in Hoopeston, IL, the son of Clarence and Cora (Goin) Denton.   

He is survived by one daughter, Christine (Roy) Meacham of Aurora, IL; two sons, Christopher James Denton of Rossville, IL and Matt Harrell Denton of Rossville, IL; one sister, Brenda (Bill) Crusinberry of Hoopeston, IL; one grandson, Blake Meacham; and eight nieces. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Davis and Carol Ann Bishop. 

Clarence worked at several factories throughout his life including Essex, Schmacher’s and Stokely’s.  He served in the United States Army.  He enjoyed going fishing especially at the ponds by Rossville High School. 

Cremation rites will be accorded.

Dale William Graham, 85, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 5:35 A.M. Wednesday April 7, 2021 at the Villas of Holly Brook in Danville, IL.  He was born June 23, 1935, in Prairie Green Township the son of Charles and Martha (Greenberg) Graham.  He married Lou Etta Hanson on January 28, 1967 at the Watseka Methodist Church.  She survives in Hoopeston. 

He is also survived by one daughter, Melinda Graham of Centralia, IL; one son, Matthew (Dona) Graham of Terre Haute, IN; one brother, Delmar (Carolyn) Graham of Urbana, IL; one brother-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Hanson; one granddaughter, Annastasia Graham; two nieces, Michelle (John) Wright and Jolene (Chad) Willis; and two nephews, John Hanson and Richard (Tizita) Hanson. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Dale was a lifelong farmer, farming in partnership with his brother for nearly 50 years.  He had previously worked at Wellington Fertilizer. He served in the United States Army from March 3, 1958 – February 23, 1960.  Dale was an elder at Prairie Green Church of Christ where he also volunteered doing many tasks.  He later attended the Hoopeston United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed attending farm shows and the EAA Annual Airshow in Wisconsin.  Dale collected arrowheads and farm toys and enjoyed driving his corvette and welding metal sculptures. 

Per his wishes, he will be cremated.  A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Saturday April 17, 2021 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Saturday April 17, at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Henwood officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston with military rites being accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.

Timothy J. Barragree, 56, of Rossville, IL, passed away at 12:16 P.M. Monday December 21, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  He was born May 27, 1964, the son of Joseph Paul Barragree Jr. and C. Louise (Smith) Barragree.   

He is survived by several cousins and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Tim owned and operated Barragree Pressure Washing Service for many years.  He enjoyed his job and visiting with his customers.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rossville.   

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday April 12, 2021 at Rossville Cemetery, with Rev. Joe Hughes officiating.

June (Betty) Carter, 84, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 10:20 A.M. Thursday April 1, 2021 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston.  She was born December 14, 1936 in Hoopeston, the daughter of Paul and Mildred (Smith) Carder.  She married Web (Wilbur) Carter on August 15, 1953 in Hoopeston.  He survives in Hoopeston. 

She is also survived by two daughters, Jo Ellen (Ronald) Rife of Bedford, IN and Vickie E. (Jimmy) Means of Hoopeston, IL; one son, Wilbur Lynn Carter of Hoopeston, IL; one sister, Nancy J. (Bill) Taylor of Columbia, IL; one brother, Paul Alan (Valorie) Carder of Lincoln, IL; four grandchildren, Christopher Rife, Amanda Rife, Denelle Carter, and Mitchell Means; great-grandchildren, Kylie (Rife) Sabillón, Alexis Sims, Jayda Rife-Smith, Colton Rife, Paige Rife, Addyson, Dailey, and Gracelyn Means, Novic Rhodes, and Sydney and Olivia Sims; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Phyllis Estock; one great-grandson, Austin “AJ” Rhodes III; one niece, Billie Jean Taylor; and one nephew, Mark Estock. 

June was a factory worker for most of her life.  She worked at Scranton’s which later became CBS and then at TRW in Hoopeston.  She then worked at Sorensons in Paxton.  June later worked at Country Terrace Assisted Living in Hoopeston before retiring.  She was a member of the First Church of God in Hoopeston, where she also belonged to the women’s group.  She was also a member of the Hoopeston Hospital Auxiliary.  June enjoyed cooking, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

Dan Eldon Johnson, 72, of Danville, IL, formerly of Cissna Park, IL, passed away at 1:54 A.M. Wednesday March 31, 2021 at Accolade Healthcare of Danville.  He was born January 31, 1949, on the family farm near Cissna Park, IL, the son of Edwin and Ruth (Wilson) Johnson. 

He is survived by one brother, John (Cheryl) Johnson of Mahomet, IL; two nephews, Ryan (Amy) Johnson and Bret (Kara) Johnson; four great-nieces and nephews, Carter, Nolan, Addy, and Kinlie; and two cousins, Robert “Bob” Johnson and Gary Johnson. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Dan was a graduate of Milford High School.  He then served in the United States Army from 1969 - 1971.  He later worked at Kraft Foods in Champaign.  Dan was a member of the Goodwine Methodist Church and later attended the First Baptist Church of Mahomet.  He enjoyed listening to Christian radio and country music, especially Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson.
