Melanie Brougher 53, of Hoopeston

Melanie Brougher, 53, of Hoopeston, IL passed away at 1:00 A.M. Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  She was born January 18, 1968, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Lester and Carolyn (West) Cundiff.  She married Donald Brougher on June 30, 1985, in Rossville, IL.  He survives in Hoopeston. 

She is also survived by her mother, Carolyn Cundiff of Rossville, IL; three daughters, Jennifer Cundiff of Hoopeston, IL, Jessica (Eric) McCalla of Bentonville, AR, and Jamie Carswell of Hoopeston, IL; one son, Donald (Kat) Brougher III of Hoopeston, IL; three sisters, Kelly (Curtis) Taylor of Rossville, IL, Sheena (Darrell) Danner of Rossville, IL, and Lesley (Todd) Smith of Rossville, IL; one brother, Mark Cundiff of Wahpeton, ND; seven grandchildren, Jersey, Jessa, Aiden, Brinley, Espyn, Emorie, and Adalee, and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father, Lester Cundiff; son-in-law, Michael Carswell; and sister-in-law, Paula Cundiff. 

Melanie worked as a CNA at the Danville VA for over ten years.  She enjoyed fishing, camping, bird watching, and most of all, playing with her grandchildren. 

Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.  A visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Friday, January 7, 2022, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.

Shirley Jo Caldwell, 83, of Wellington

Shirley Jo Caldwell, 83, of Wellington, IL, passed away at 2:26 P.M. Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  Private family services were held.  Following the service, cremation rites were accorded.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday April 2, 2022, at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, with Pastor Kathy Murphy officiating.  Anderson Funeral Home in Hoopeston is handling the service. 

Benjamin M. Warren, 26, of Sheldon

Benjamin M. Warren, 26, of Sheldon passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Carle Hospital in Urbana. He was born on July 17, 1995, in Danville, IL, the son of Michael and Beth (Bleich) Warren. Survivors include his parents Mike and Beth Warren of Sheldon; one sister Catherine (Nicolas) Long of Zionsville, IN; three nephews: Everett, Oliver, and Alden Long; paternal grandmother Anne Warren and Scott Burdick of Sullivan, IL; two aunts: Karen (Dean) Storm of Ashkum and Kristine Burdick of Ashkum; one uncle Lyle (Marcy) Warren of Las Vegas, NV; three cousins: Rachel Warren, Kyle Burdick, Nathan Burdick. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Lawson and Marian Bleich, paternal grandfather Walter Warren, and one uncle Dean Bleich.

Ben was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Watseka and was employed as a Parts Specialist at Watseka Ford. He loved his dog Ellie, enjoyed rebuilding cars, and was a kind, respectful, and loving son.

Private visitation and funeral services will be held at the Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka with Rev. Aaron Uphoff officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Reading Group in Champaign, IL.

Patrick Alan Gillespie, 57, of Fithian,

Patrick Alan Gillespie, 57, of Fithian, passed away Friday December 24 2021 at 9:47 pm in the OSF Heart Medical Center ER, Danville. 

 

Patrick was born November 17, 1964, in Danville, IL,  the son of Sydney and Joan Gilles Gillespie    He married Denise Coon on December 17 2010, in Danville, she survives.

 

He is also survived by 2 daughters- Jessica (Ray) Gillespie of Hillsboro, IN and Ashley (Jeff) Robertson of Danville, IL;   1 son- Aaron Gillespie of Lafayette, IN;  8 grandchildren- Bryson, Kaci, Jaxon, Noah, Violet, Brantley, Caden, and Ryleigh;   2 brothers- Paul Gillespie of Fairmount, IL  and Joe (Juli) Gillespie of Fithian; 1 sister- Debbie Edmondson of Louisville, KY;   he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his father Sydney, mother Joan and grandson Levi and 1 “brotha” Jeff Crowder and his beloved fur baby Tulip aka “Tulli”.

 

Pat was a maintenance man for Eagle Wings in Rantoul, IL and Danville Building Commission.  He enjoyed dirt track racing, hunting, mushrooming and he enjoyed the outdoors.  He was passionate about playing guitar.  Pat enjoyed his friends within his small neighborhood. 

 

Visitation will be Thursday December 30, 2021 from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm, with the funeral at 3:00 pm at Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac.  Burial will follow the service in Embury Cemetery, in Collison, IL.    In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Pat’s life.  Condolences may be shared with the family on his everlasting memorial page at:  www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.

Naomi Kay Garrison, 80, of Potomac

Naomi Kay Garrison, 80, of Potomac, passed away at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, in Danville.

Naomi was born on August 15, 1941, in Ridge Farm, Illinois, the daughter of John and Margaret (Price) Hubbard.  She married Robert “Bob” Lee Garrison Sr. on December 19, 1962, in Hillsboro, Indiana.  He preceded her in death on December 28, 2007. 

She is survived by three daughters- Teresa (Mike) Clawson of Covington, IN, Marilyn (Randy) Seyfert of Potomac and Brenda Farrar of Potomac; son- Robert Garrison Jr. of Danville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters- Patsy Michaels of Danville and Linda Rush of Potomac; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, twin brother- Bill Hubbard and sister- Esther Brown.

Naomi worked at GE, Howard Industries and Caradco, in Rantoul, until her retirement in 1992.  She previously attended the Potomac Church of the Nazarene.  She enjoyed watching westerns, traveling, rising in the car and spending time with her grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2021, at Potomac Cemetery, with Pastor George Desmond officiating.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Naomi’s life.  Condolences may be shared with the family on her everlasting memorial page at:  www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.

Larry Hofer, 80, of Rankin

Leland "Pete" Grove, 86, of East Lynn

Leland Edward “Pete” Grove, 86, of East Lynn, IL, passed away at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday December 21, 2021, at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center.  He was born October 14, 1935, at home in Butler Township, IL, the son of Jesse and Agda (Anderson) Grove.  He married Dorothy Hirschelman and later married Catherine Louise Franklin on June 14, 1980, in East Lynn.  They preceded him in death. 

He is survived by three sons, Jerry Lee Grove of Hoopeston, IL, Jacky Lee Grove of East Lynn, IL, and Jimmy Lee Grove of East Lynn, IL; two daughters, Sara Troxel of Hoopeston, IL, and Linda (Tom) Vogel of Gridley, IL; five grandchildren, Jordan Lee Grove, Alexsis (Adam) Nelson, Mitchell Grove (Sabrina), Kyle (Danielle) Vogel, and Kent (Debra) Vogel; three great-grandchildren, Allyssa, Jaxon, and Abram; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. 

Pete worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation.  He then worked at Singleton Grain Company and later for the Vermilion County Highway Department.  He served in the United States Army from 1958-1960, where he was stationed in Germany and received the Good Conduct Medal, Motor Vehicle Mechanic Badge, Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle M-1) and was a Tank Mechanic. He was a member of the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384, the VFW Buddy Egnew Post #4826, and the Moose Lodge.  Pete enjoyed working on automobiles and was a jack-of-all trades. 

A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Monday January 3, 2022, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. Monday January 3, 2022, at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, IL.

Thomas Rayford Hamilton, 77, of Gilman

Thomas Rayford Hamilton, 77, of Gilman passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Med Center Health in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was born on March 9, 1944 in Gilman, the son of Basil and Mary Pauline (Westbrook) Hamilton Sr. He married Nancy Peters in Onarga on November 24, 1963.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Hamilton of Gilman; two daughters, Cindy Guttendorf of Gilman and Cathy (Tim) Thorne of Onarga; one brother, Basil Hamilton Jr. of Bowling Green, Kentucky; two sisters, Debbie (Bobby) Bigler of Clifton and Sandy Rady of Houma, Louisiana; and four grandchildren, Ray Thomas (Sarah) Guttendorf, Clayton Thorne, Dane Thorne, and Maggie Thorne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gwin McIlwain; one son-in-law, Ray Guttendorf; and one sister-in-law, Brenda Hamilton.

Thomas was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gilman. He graduated in 1963 from Gilman High School. He was a member of the Gilman American Legion Post 499. He was a paramedic for the Gilman Ambulance for thirteen years. Thomas was involved with the Special Olympics for ten years. He videotaped football games for twenty years for Gilman and Iroquois West Football Games. He was involved with the Santa Claus train for two years. Thomas played dartball for many years on the Lutheran League. He was an active beekeeper for fifteen years. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing and watching his grandkids in sports.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gilman at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Pete Hinrich officiating. Burial will be immediately following the funeral service in the Gilman Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Gilman American Legion Post 499. Visitation will be two hours prior beginning at 9:00 a.m. also at the church.

Memorials may be made to GODS Food Pantry in Gilman.

Rodney "Butch" Schroeder, 61, of Milford

Rodney Blaine “Butch” Schroeder, Jr., 61, of Milford, IL, passed away at 2:20 A.M. Monday December 20, 2021, at his home.  He was born July 31, 1960, in Watseka, IL, the son of Rodney Blaine and Betty Mae (Jones) Schroeder Sr.  He married Carol Lynn Calvert Irvin on May 1, 1993, at the Hoopeston Community Church of the Nazarene.  She survives in Milford.   

He is also survived by one daughter, Amy Irvin (Jeremy Bruens) of Milford, IL; four sons, Milton William (Amanda) Irvin Jr. of Maynardville, TN, Joshua Alan Irvin (Danyel Fader) of Milford, IL, Tony Lee (Michelle) Irvin of Milford, IL, and Cody Alan (Sara) McLaughlin of Hazelton, IN; four brothers, Tim (Michelle) Schroeder of Tilton, IL, Danny (Linda) Schroeder of Watseka, IL, Bill (Charlotte) Schroeder of Thomasboro, IL, and Randy (Margo) Schroeder of Milford, IL; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren with 4 more on the way; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one granddaughter, Tori Jessilyn Irvin. 

Butch was a truck driver working for Schroeder’s and Sons Disposal and later Raven’s Trucking.  He attended the Milford Nazarene Church in Milford, IL.  He enjoyed collecting matchbox cars and Hot Wheels, garbage trucks, and Borden’s milk products.  Butch also enjoyed scraping junk and loved his dog, Sassy aka “Sister”. 

A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Wednesday December 29, 2021, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. Wednesday December 29, 2021, at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, IL.

Glen Tweedy, 89, of Hoopeston

Glen Tweedy, 89, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 3:54 P.M. Monday December 20, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  He was born November 10, 1932, in Hoopeston, IL, the son of William G. and Bonnie (Oliver) Tweedy.   

He is survived by one son, Brian (Mandy) Tweedy of Albuquerque, NM; one brother, Dale Tweedy (Erma Jackson) of Hoopeston, IL; and one grandson, Cash Tweedy. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Wilma DuChette, Ruth McCormick and infant sister, Bonnie Marie Tweedy; and three brothers, Bill Tweedy, Jr., Marion Tweedy, and Donald Tweedy. 

Glen grew up on the farm.  He then served in the United States Army from 1954 - 1956, serving in Germany. After the service, he became a truck driver, driving for Rodgers Cartage for over 30 years.  Glen enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends at McDonald’s. 

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday January 4, 2022, at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, IL.

Charles William "Bill" Crusinberry, 72, of Hoopeston

Charles William “Bill” Crusinberry, 72, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 5:17 P.M. Friday December 17, 2021, at his home.  He was born July 27, 1949, in Danville, IL, the son of Floyd Cecil and Wanda June (Rothgeb) Crusinberry.  He married Brenda Kay Denton on March 1, 1999, in Mesa, AZ.  She survives in Hoopeston. 

He is also survived by four daughters, Tina (Greg) Samet of Hoopeston, IL, Jeannie Miller of Hoopeston, IL, Lisa (Bryan) Johnson of Hoopeston, IL, and Stephanie (Brandon) Reffett of Pace, FL; one brother, Raymond “Skip” (Dawn) Crusinberry of Fresno, CA; eight grandchildren, Story (Rachel) Fenner, Kaylynn Bridgeman, Erica (Jeremy) Weber, Andrew Samet, Shelby Mayberry, Owen Reffett, Sidda Johnson, and Addisen Reffett; 2 great-granddaughters; 1 great-grandson; a special aunt, Joan Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Delmar Wayne Crusinberry. 

Bill previously owned and operated Crunch’s Restaurant in Hoopeston for nearly 14 years.  He also worked at DM Fertilizer which became Crop Production Services and later Nutrien Ag Solutions in Hoopeston for 20 years. Bill loved serving his hometown community as a humble servant, serving as the Mayor of Hoopeston for over 12 years and previously serving as a Hoopeston Alderman for 4 years.  He was a member of the First Church of God in Hoopeston.  He was also a member of the Hoopeston Chamber of Commerce, the Lion’s Club, the Sons of the American Legion where he held various offices and was a member of the Hoopeston Jaycees where he had previously served as Chapter Treasurer and was the past Chairman of the National Sweetcorn Festival in 1984.  Bill enjoyed watching sports especially the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with his wife, Brenda.  Bill was known for being very kind-hearted and always helping others. 

Per his wishes, he will be cremated.  A visitation will be held 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Thursday December 23, 2021, at the First Church of God 1004 E. Orange St. Hoopeston, IL.  The memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 6:00 P.M. Thursday December 23, 2021, at the church with Larry Baughn officiating.  A private family burial will be held.

Phyllis J. Sturm, 61, of Hoopeston

Phyllis Jean Sturm, 61, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 10:42 P.M. Thursday December 16, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.  She was born May 13, 1960, in Lincoln, IL, the daughter of John and Virginia Lee (Blaum) Aldag.  She married David Sturm on July 21, 1990, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hoopeston.  He survives in Hoopeston.   

She is also survived by one step-daughter, Jessica (Billy) Burke of Hoopeston, IL; two step-sons, Andrew Sturm of San Diego, CA and Lucas (Karah) Sturm of Rossville, IL; two brothers, John Aldag (Michele Dady) of Maplewood, MN and Larry (Debbie) Aldag of Springfield, IL; two brothers-in-law, Dennis (Theresa) Sturm of Paxton, IL and Robert (Teresa) Sturm of Paxton, IL; four grandchildren, Alexa Burke, Noah Burke, Addilyn Sturm, and Violet Sturm; one aunt, Sherrill Blaum; one step-aunt, Evelyn Rinnert; one uncle, Wayne LaForge; one step-uncle, Kenneth Sturm; 2 nieces, Anne Aldag and Emily Lynch; 1 nephew, Matt (Natalia) Aldag; 2 step-nieces; and 5 step-nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Sue Aldag. 

Phyllis was a teacher at Hoopeston Area schools for ten years, teaching children with special needs.  She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hoopeston where she served as the financial secretary and oversaw the Cradle Roll.  She loved working outside with her flowers and doing yard work.  Phyllis also enjoyed camping, traveling to many states and Canada, and going to flea markets. 

Per her wishes, she will be cremated.  A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Saturday January 8, 2022, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 302 N. Market St. Hoopeston, IL.  The memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 11:00 A.M. Saturday January 8, 2022, at the church with Rev. Phillip Callahan officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Donna Hudson, 68, of Hoopeston

Donna Hudson, 68, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 4:20 P.M. Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center in Hoopeston, IL.  She was born October 18, 1953, the daughter of Shelby and Bertha (Hurt) Savage.  She married Billy Hudson on November 11, 1988, at the Hoopeston Community Church of the Nazarene.  He survives in Hoopeston.  

Along with her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Natosha Menschel of Hoopeston; two sons, Will Hudson of Savannah, GA, and Aaron (Amanda) Hudson of Savannah, GA; one sister, Linda (Tom) Habel of Shelbyville, TN; one brother, Gail Savage of Hoopeston, IL; and four grandchildren, Austin Yepma, Harlie Menschel, Aiden Hudson, and Alexis Pryee. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and three brothers. 

For thirty years, Donna worked as a nurse in the ICU at Iroquois Memorial Hospital and then later at the Danville VA.  She enjoyed gardening and traveling.   

Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a service will be held at a later date.

Mike Fink, 63, of Hoopeston

Mike Fink, 63, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 3:10 A.M. Wednesday December 15, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  He was born September 28, 1958, in Danville, IN, the son of Ivan Fink Sr. and Eugenia (Lawrence) Fink. 

He is survived by one sister, Alice Fink of Hoopeston, IL; one brother, Ivan Fink Jr of Arcola, IL.; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister-in-law, Cheryl Jacobs. 

Mike worked at Howard’s in Milford and later worked at Fairfield Manufacturing in Lafayette, IN, as an inspector for many years. He was a member of the Hoopeston Historical Society and was an avid Civil War enthusiast.  His hobbies included collecting coins, sword collecting and stamp collecting.  Mike also enjoyed visiting with his friends.  

A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Wednesday December 22, 2021, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. Wednesday December 22, 2021, at the funeral home with Clint Fink officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

William Herschel "Billy" Pierce II, 55, of Onarga

William Herschel “Billy” Pierce II, 55, of Onarga, IL, passed away at 4:27 A.M. Friday December 17, 2021, at his home.  He was born February 21, 1966, in Watseka, IL, the son of William (Linda) Herschel and Judy Haxton (Wayne) Frederick.  He married Jamie Seggebruch on October 2, 1999, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hoopeston.  She survives in Onarga.   

He is also survived by his mother and step-father, Judy and Wayne Frederick of Hoopeston, IL; his father and step-mother, William and Linda Herschel of Danville, IL; two daughters, Marissa and Katherine Pierce of Loda, IL; two sons, Lance Pierce of Milford, IL and Evan Seggebruch of Onarga, IL; two sisters, Starla Anderson of Cissna Park, IL and Crystal Pierce of Danville, IL; 7 grandchildren, Kaden Kelley, Kalie Kelley, John Poindexter, David Pierce, Elexsis Poindexter, Makalynn Pierce, and Emma Graham; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Layton and Kim Seggebruch of Onarga, IL; brother-in-law, Josh (Jamie) Miller of Hoopeston, IL; one niece, Chloe Miller; and 3 nephews, Jason Blackburn, Kyle Blackburn, and Cole Miller. 

He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Carol Pierce; step-father, Don England; and one nephew, Cody Frost. 

Billy worked as a supervisor at Howard’s and then went to work for Iroquois Memorial Hospital in the maintenance department.  He later became a concrete finisher for PSI in Kankakee where he worked for many years.  He served in the United States Marine Corps.  He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church- Ash Grove in Onarga, IL.  Billy had served as a Milford Cub Master and was a member of the Pheasants Forever Young Guns and the Loda Sportsman’s Club. He was also a member of the Hoopeston Conservation Club and the Cissna Park American Legion Post #527. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and dartball. Billy enjoyed dressing up as Santa Claus and the Easter bunny for many nursing homes, a tradition which was later carried on by his children. 

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday December 22, 2021, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.   The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday December 23, 2021, at St. Johns Lutheran Church- Ash Grove, 1180 E. 1000 N. Road, Onarga, IL, with Rev. Michael Ruhlig officiating.   Burial will follow in St. Johns Ash Grove Cemetery, with military rites being accorded by the Cissna Park American Legion Post #527.

Melvin "Delbert" Remole, 96, of Potomac

Melvin "Delbert" Remole, 96, of Potomac, passed away peacefully at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Hawthorne Inn, in Danville.

Delbert was born March 2, 1925, in Reed, Kentucky, the son of Raymond and Ola (Kelly) Remole. He married Frances Auth on September 14, 1947. She preceded him in death on January 27, 2021. After celebrating 73 Christmases together, they are reunited once again, just in the nick of time to celebrate their 74th consecutive Christmas together.

Delbert is survived by his 4 children- Steve (Susan) Remole of Oakwood, Connie (Don) Rutledge of Danville, Chris (Randy) Hird of Danville and Stan (Mary) Remole of Potomac; 11 grandchildren and their spouses- Laura (Rob) Ruch, Ryan (Elaine) Remole, Scott (Brittney) Remole, Jill (Matt) Smith, Joy (Jason) Anderson, Jeff (Hanna) Alexander, Aaron (Amy) Hird, Brandon (Jillian) Hird, Denton (Mariah) Hird, Steven (Kerry) Remole and Michael (Gabby) Remole; 29 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles and Sonny Remole and sister, Geneva Stipp and their spouses.

Delbert graduated from Potomac High School, in 1943; he and Fran had their first date that night. Shortly after graduation, during World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He and Fran were married in 1947 after his honorable discharge. They worked together as a team during their many business ventures. He was a member of the Potomac Church of the Nazarene, where he served faithfully in many capacities, including driving the church bus for many years. He served on the District Advisory Board of the Chicago Central District of the Church of the Nazarene and served the Board of Trustees of Olivet Nazarene University.

His love of music was passed on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Listening to his family sing or watching his grandchildren compete in sports brought him great joy.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at the Potomac Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor's Jeff Alexander and Randy Holden officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. preceding the funeral on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Potomac Church of the Nazarene or Hooves of Hope. Debbie Wessels, 72, of Iroquois

Debra A. Wessels, 72, of Iroquois passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. She was born on June 27, 1949 in Watseka, the daughter of Melvin and Barbara (Baker) Obenland. Debbie married Charles F. Wessels on August 24, 1969 in Iroquois.

Surviving Debra are her husband, Charlie Wessels of Iroquois; one daughter, Kendra (Harold) Warner of Clifton; one son, Brandon (Miki Stratford) Wessels of Little Elm, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Wessels of Crescent City; one brother, Mark Obenland of Iroquois; one sister, Kathy (Raymond) Galyen of Iroquois; five grandchildren, Cauy Warner, Nathan Warner, Evan Warner, Jacob Wessels, and Allison Wessels.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Timothy Wessels.

Debbie was an admissions and marketing director for area nursing homes for 25 years and a director of the Newton County Community Services for the last eight years. She was a licensed beautician for 52 years. Debbie also served the community as an EMT for Concord Fire and as a local election judge.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 20, 2021 at the Baier Funeral Home in Watseka from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Private funeral services will be at the Baier Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Prairie Dell Cemetery near Iroquois.

Allen "Al" Castonguay, 69, of Milford

Allen L. “Big Al” Castonguay, 69, of Milford passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at his residence. Al was born on June 5, 1952 in Watseka, the son of Milton “Cass” and Patricia (Allen) Castonguay. He married Debbie Daschner in Milford on September 1, 1989.

Surviving are his wife, Debbie Castonguay of Milford; two sons, Jay (Fiancé, Ginny) Castonguay of Milford and Aaron (Fiancé, Tammy) Castonguay of Crescent City; three step daughters, April (Duane) Schmedeke of Rochester, Amy Bickers of Sheldon, and Candace Kissack of Milford; ten grandchildren, Taylor Quick, Sierra Castonguay, Zach Castonguay, Shay Hankey, Josi, Ben, and Addi Schmedeke, Jace and Hunter Boyer, and Ella Kissack; his dog, Chelsea; and two brothers, Mark Castonguay of Lake Mills, Wisconsin and Jeff Castonguay of California.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Eric; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Castonguay; and his dog, Maggie.

Mr. Castonguay was a member of the Milford Christian Church in Milford. He proudly served in the Army Reserves from 1971 – 1977. Al worked at UARCO/Standard Register for 31 years and most recently worked for the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department as a Correctional Officer until retiring in 2016. He was a member of the Iroquois County and Watseka Auxiliary Police. Al enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, and his dog.

Funeral services for Al will be at the Milford Christian Church on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Brent Zastrow officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Milford Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery with graveside military rites.

Beverly Jane Bivans, 89, of Hoopeston

Beverly Jane Bivans, 89, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 6:25 P.M. Sunday December 12, 2021, at her home.  She was born January 18, 1932, in Hoopeston, IL, the daughter of George and Mary (Killion) Wintersteen.   

She is survived by 7 daughters, Pam (Chuck Crook) Goble, Donna (Tim) Watson, Sandy (Ross) Kinnaird, Jennifer Davis, Mary (Quentin) Morgan, Missy Grove, and Trish (Don) Stebbins; 3 sons, David (Lonnette) Davis, Todd (Tami Hambleton) Davis, and Paul (Shannon) Lynn; son-in-law, Gary Hiser; 32 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Paula Hiser; one son, John “JB” Bartmess; her brothers and sisters; two grandsons, Joseph Watson and Lucas Davis; and a special niece, Kay. 

Jane was a CNA and worked as a private caretaker until her retirement.  She loved playing Bingo and gambling.  She also enjoyed reading, listening to country music, and going to rummage sales.  One of her greatest enjoyments was spending time with her family. 

Cremation rites will be accorded, and a private graveside service will be held.

Marcella M. Ingram, 85, of Hoopeston

Marcella M. Ingram, 85, of Hoopeston, passed away at 7:29 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2021, at her home.

Marcella was born on December 20, 1935, in Hoopeston, the daughter of Jeff and Dora Ellen (Burton) Floyd. She married Wendell Ingram on August 5, 1972, in Hoopeston. He preceded her in death on November 13, 1978.

She is survived by two daughters- Jenny (Ingram) and son-in-law Jerry Vessels of Springville, IN and Missy (Ingram) Miller of Springfield, IL; two grandchildren- Kathryn and Marco Vessels; two sisters- Lucy Cross and Sue Zarate both of Hoopeston; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister.

Marcella graduated from Hoopeston High School, in 1953. She worked for 43 years at Bohn Aluminum, until her retirement. She was a member of the First Church of God, in Hoopeston, where she was very active and a faithful follower of God. Marcella loved to travel, and she has been able to visit 38 of the 50 states. She also enjoyed doing word searches, reading, playing board games and Skip-Bo and spending time with her family.

A Celebration of Marcella’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the First Church of God, in Hoopeston, with Pastor Carlos Sanchez officiating. Andrew "Drew" Nowak, 72, of Rossville, IL, formerly of Chicago

Andrew “Drew” Nowak, 72, of Rossville, IL, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away at 12:20 P.M. Thursday December 9, 2021, at his home in Rossville.  He was born April 15, 1949, in Germany, the son of Walter and Stella (Urbanski) Nowak.   

He is survived by his significant other, Lori Nolan; one brother, Frank Nowak; and three nieces and nephews, Rene Nowak, Eric Nowak, and Joann Nowak. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Andrew worked at the Cook County Circuit Court in the Probate Division and was also a barber at the Gallery of Hair in Chicago.  He attended St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in Chicago.  He enjoyed watching football and was a Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers fan.  Drew was also a fan of the Chicago Cubs.

Ora Schroeder, 94, of Milford

Ora Otto Schroeder Jr., 94, of Milford passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at his residence.

Ora was born on March 7, 1927 in Calumet City, the son of Ora Otto and Cinderella (Jones) Schroeder Sr. He married Mary Allen on September 20, 1946 in Milford and she survives.

Besides his wife, Mary Schroeder of Milford, he is survived by three children, Michael Wayne (Connie) Schroeder of Milford, Stephen Patrick (Cathy) Schroeder of Milford, and Sara Lee Janssen of Milford; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Nick, and Harold; and two sisters, Oraleen and Martha.

Ora and Mary were married for seventy-five years. Together they were part of a square dance club. After retiring from Uarco, Ora enjoyed woodworking, especially making signs. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Due to COVID, private family services will be held with burial at Sugar Creek Cemetery in Stockland with graveside military rites by Watseka American Legion Post #23 and Iroquois County VFW Post #7450.

Karen Sue Schreck, 64, of Milford passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

She was born on August 13, 1957 in Watseka, the daughter of Charles E. and Shirley Lee (Allison) Crook and they both preceded her in death.

She was a member of Milford Christian Church. She enjoyed cooking and playing games.

Roger Lee Hanford Sr. 67, of Kentland, IN

Roger Lee Hanford Sr, 67 of Kentland, Indiana passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021 near Iroquois. He was born on January 18, 1954 in Watseka, the son of Vernon W. and Marie (Watts) Hanford and they preceded him in death along with his son, Roger Lee “Cricket” Hanford Jr.
Surviving Roger is his sister, Susan Hanford of Watseka; one brother, Vernon Hanford, Jr. of Watseka; and several nephews and nieces, including his niece, Stacey Boyd of Watseka.

Roger enjoyed raising and selling animals. He was a tobacco farmer and was a self-employed contractor.

A memorial service and burial will be held at Ridgeland Twp Cemetery in Thawville at later date.

Aaron W. Huckleby, 52, of Milford passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center in Hoopeston. He was born on October 8, 1969 in Wurzburg, Germany, the son of Terry W. Huckleby and Violetta Cooley.

Surviving are his daughter, Morgan Huckleby (Noah Cotton) of Danville; son, Drezden Langdon of Milford; mother, Violetta Cooley of Milford; brother, Anson (Aimee) Huckleby of Wellington, FL; two grandchildren, Clarity and Raiden Cotton; and niece and nephews, Kayla, Logan, and Parker Huckleby.

Aaron was preceded in passing by his father, Terry.

He enjoyed painting and art, as well as had a passion for music.

Tara Lin (Laird) Fares, 49, of Danville

Tara Lin (Laird) Fares, age 49, of Danville, passed away at 4:45 p,m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. She was born on May 6, 1972, in Danville at Lakeview Hospital to Glen and Linda Laird.  She married William “Bill” Fares on December 26, 2018, at the Second Church of Christ in Danville.  

 

Tara was a graduate of Danville High School, Class of 1990. She earned her associate’s degree at Danville Area Community College, and graduated from Eastern Illinois University.


Tara began working in the Hoopeston Area Community Unit School District #11 as a teacher aide in August 1996 with the kindergarten physical education classes. She taught first grade beginning in August of 1999, and she continued her teaching career at Maple Grade School till her passing. She served the Hoopeston Area District #11 for 25½ years. Tara instituted the outdoor lending library at Maple School in 2019. She built many relationships with her students during her school teaching and they all remained special to her.


A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Second Church of Christ, 3350 East Voorhees Street in Danville, Illinois.


The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Second Church of Christ with Pastor Greg Taylor officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Darlene F. Larimore, 86, of Milford passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. She was born on November 7, 1935 in Quincy, the daughter of Wilford and Mary (Ingram) Slater. Darlene married Neil O. Larimore on October 23, 1955 in Hull.

Mrs. Larimore is survived by her husband, Neil Larimore of Milford; four daughters, Teresa (Richard) Hancock of Milford, Deborah (Sid) Allen of Milford, Linda Larimore of Milford, Valerie (Tim) Ward of Milford; one brother, Ernest (Melanie) Slater of Quincy; four sister-in-laws, Cleo Slater Powers of Payson, Donna Mibbs of Havana, Janet (Dan) Bingaman of Barry, and Marcia Copher of Fowler, Indiana; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren with one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Bill Slater and Donald Slater; and sister-in-law, Janet Slater.

Darlene was a member of the Milford Christian Church in Milford. She worked in the Milford High School cafeteria and library and drove a special needs bus for years. Darlene loved jig saw puzzles, reading, word searches, and Milford School activities.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Milford Christian Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Gary Milton and Rev. Brent Zastrow will be officiating. Burial following in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, December 10, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Milford Christian Church.

Douglas Edward Nord II, 29, of Danville, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, in Danville.

Douglas was born on January 25, 1992, in Urbana, the son of Douglas Edward and Dawn (Smith) Nord.  He is survived by his parents; fiancé- Chelsey Olivieri of Danville; two daughter- Olivia Bailey and Penelope Nord both of Danville; son- Jasper Nord of Danville; brother-Blake Nord of Danville; two sisters- Danielle (Michael) March of Johnston, Iowa and Courtney Nord of Danville; grandmother- Rita Yauger of Danville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents- Gene and Harriett Smith.

Douglas worked at Mervis Industries, as an mechanic.  He enjoyed watching the stock market and spending time with his children.

Yvette Marie Crothers, 57, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 6:03 A.M. Saturday December 4, 2021, at her home. She was born October 17, 1964, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Richard and Nancy (Ford) McClure.  They survive in Cayuga, IN. She married Richard “Rick” Crothers on January 11, 2008, in Danville, IL.  He survives in Hoopeston. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Yvette is also survived by three daughters, Ashley Winland of Chrisman, IL, Belinda (Levi) Baysinger of Bloomfield, IN, and Andrea Lopez of Hoopeston, IL; two sons, Michael Winland of Danville, IL and David Cohen of Kansas City, KS; one brother, Brian (Michelle) McClure of Rogersville, MS; 11 grandchildren, Dallas, Mackenzie, Sophie, MaKaylah, Maddison, Emma, Brayden, Bryley, Kenzley, Arwen, and Gianna; and three nephews, Raphael, Richard II, and Nicholas. 

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Sterling and June Ford and paternal grandparents, Fredrick and Iola McClure. 

Yvette worked at CVS in Hoopeston for six years. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, working in her flower garden, and being around people.  She loved her dog, Shiloh and especially loved taking care of her grandchildren. 

Per her wishes, she will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Barbara Faye Troxel, 80, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 3:55 A.M. Monday December 6, 2021, at her home.  She was born July 5, 1941, in Brown County, KY, the daughter of Duluth and Ruth (Sexton) Chaney.  She married Francis Troxel on August 29, 1958, at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Hoopeston.  He preceded her in death on October 15, 2019.   

She is survived by three grandsons, Jeremy, Erich, and Tristin. 

In addition to husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Lori; one son, Steve; one sister, Linda Evans; and one niece, Shannon Evans. 

Faye worked as a meat cutter at A & P and later at County Market in Danville until her retirement.  She was a member of the Hoopeston Community Church of the Nazarene where she served the Lord.  She enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles with her husband. 

Per her wishes, she will be cremated.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday December 21, 2021, at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Mrs. Burch, or “Patty” as many knew her, was born on April 14, 1937, in Hoopeston, the daughter of Gerald and Alta (Pinnick) Wells. She married her childhood sweetheart, Floyd L. Burch on January 9, 1954, in Kentland, Indiana. They were together, until his death, on June 2, 2012.

 

She is survived by her four children- Susan Lambert of Hoopeston, Shellie Moser (Dale) of Hoopeston, Todd (Kimberly) Burch of Hoopeston and Abbie Brewer of Corinth, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister- Karen Sue (Gerald) Evans of Hoopeston; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, 3 grandchildren and her sister-Sandy Brown.

 

Patricia loved Hoopeston. She had fond memories of working for Dr. Cuonzo in Hoopeston, and St. Anthony Catholic Church. She was an entrepreneur and was the owner/operator of the Halo House candy shop, in Hoopeston. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, where she was very active in the choir and Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed doing ceramics and she was very artistic. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, playing the piano and singing. She had lots of energy and enjoyed working around her house. Most of all, she enjoyed having her family around her and attending family events.

 

People loved being in the same room with her. She made every gathering special, just by being there and she was the person who never forgot to celebrate the accomplishments of others, however big or small. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Her family’s consolation is that she passed peacefully from this life, into the arms of her beloved husband and loved ones.

 

According to her wishes cremation rites will be accorded. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 10, 2021, at Floral Hill Cemetery, with Father Thomas Gibson officiating. Shirley Ann Linder, 77, of Potomac

Shirley Ann Linder, 77, of Potomac, passed away at 4:56 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Accolade Healthcare, in Danville.

Shirley was born on November 26, 1944, in Cheneyville, Illinois, the daughter of Richard Lee and Alma J. (Cross) Coffey.  She previously married Steven Cross, in 1976, in Henning, Illinois.  He preceded her in death. 

She is survived by two daughters- Brenda Cox of Potomac and Helen (Lincoln) Ingram of Campbellsville, KY; two sons- Johnny Ray (Tina) Linder of Rossville and Ronald (Brijida) Linder of Hoopeston; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers- Gordon Coffey of Rossville and Ricky (Joyce) Coffey of Fisher; one sister- Marjorie Pickett of Danville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter- Alma Coffey, two brothers- Wendall Coffey and Jackie Coffey and her sister- Betty Lou Voyles.

Shirley worked as a cook at the Belgium Bingo Hall and then later at CARADCO, in Rantoul.  She was a member of the Potomac Church of the Nazarene.  She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino boat.

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac, with Pastor Jay Sorrell officiating.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.  Burial will follow the service in Potomac Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Shirley’s life.  Condolences may be shared with the family on his everlasting memorial page at:  www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.

Lucille Symmonds, 97, of Paxton

Lucille Symmonds, 97, of Paxton passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center.


Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 12pm until the 1pm funeral service, at Cox-Knapp Funeral Home in Paxton.  Burial will follow at Rankin Union Cemetery.

 

Ralph "Redd" Maurice McIntyre, 59, of Bedford, Formerly of Rossville, IL

Ralph "Redd" Maurice McIntyre, 59 of Bedford passed away Monday, November 29, 2021 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on Thursday, April 26, 1962 in Illinois, a son of the late Willard Maurice McIntyre and Shirley Marie Warnes McIntyre.

 

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Denise Ray Wilson McIntyre, brother-in-law, Jim Cremeens and niece, Danielle McIntyre. He grew up in Rossville, Illinois graduating from Rossville-Alvin High School and earned an Associate degree in Biblical Studies from Liberty University. He was Pastor at Radford Baptist Church in Children’s Ministry and Motorcycle Ministry and was a farrier to hundreds. He developed his servant nature as kitchen managers in several large chain restaurants such as Chili’s, Red Lobster, and Cracker Barrel to name a few.

 

He always had time to share the Gospel of Christ with anyone and praying over them. He was faithful in reading God’s Word and praying with Denise before she passed away in 2015. He enjoyed traveling with Denise during equestrian competition as well as trail riding, sportsman firearms, hunting and long rides on his motorcycle by himself and with others. He enjoyed cooking for others feeding all with nutrition and God’s Word.

 

He is survived by his brother, Steve (Kathy) McIntyre; sister, Gayle (McIntyre) Cremeens, Debbie (Wilson) Weisel; his nieces & nephews: Katie (McIntyre) Grayling, Mary (McIntyre) Wisnasky, Erika McIntyre, Olivia McIntyre, Melissa Musk Pelzman, Joseph Musk, Jon Lawrence; grand nieces & nephews, Grace McIntyre, Nicole Pelzman, Jacob Pelzman, Theodore Pelzman, William Musk, Waylon Musk, Willow Musk, Arya Lawrence, Lucy, Jane, Daniel & Margaret Wisnasky.

 

The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Children's Ministry Makeover, C/O Radford Baptist Church, P. O. Box 630, Moneta, VA 24121.

 

A funeral service will be held on at 2 PM on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Radford Baptist Church with Rev. Karl Hofheinz officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior and one hour after the service at the church.

Jenette "Jenny" Lea Horner, 66, of Potomac, formerly of Atascadero, California

Jenette “Jenny” Lea Horner, 66, of Potomac, formerly of Atascadero, California, passed away at 12:09 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021, at her home.

Jenny was born on August 10, 1955, in Oak Harbor, Washington, the daughter of Daniel and Esther (Byers) Barra. 

She is survived by her significant other- Merle Brandt of Potomac; son- Steve (Alissa) Ewing of Anaheim, California; nine grandchildren; and two sisters- Cheryl (William) Vrba of Menifee, California and Peri (Dean) Boyd of Clarksville, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son- Trevor Horner and brother- Randy Barra.

Jenny worked as a hairdresser and at Lowes, in the paint department, while she was living in California. She loved to cook and going out to eat.  Jenny loved having a good time and enjoyed dancing and singing.  Her favorite saying was always “Rough and tough and hard to bluff and not afraid to die”.
