Hazel Jalae Walder, 4 months and 1 day old, of Hoopeston

Hazel Jalae Walder, 4 months and 1 day old, of Hoopeston, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. She was born on December 14, 2023, in Urbana, the daughter of Kyle and Kori (Balk) Walder.

She is survived by her parents, Kyle and Kori Walder of Hoopeston; her siblings, Roman and Evelyn “Evie” Walder of Hoopeston; maternal grandparents, Steve and Bonnie Balk of Buckley; paternal grandparents, Russ and Darlene Walder of Rankin; paternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Walder of Cissna Park; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Wilbert and Dorothy Gieseler, Merton and Neoma Balk, Elmer and Mary Lou Kaeb, and Dale Walder.

Hazel was very loved in the short amount of time she had here on earth and touched many people’s lives. Her family wants to thank everyone in the community that has prayed and given support throughout these last few months.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Grace Bible Church in Cissna Park. Private funeral services will be held. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Memorials may be made to the Walder family.

Devontae Levi Bradley Smithers, the infant son of D'Angelo Bradley Jr. and Alexia Smithers of Hoopeston

Devontae Levi Bradley Smithers, the infant son of D’Angelo Bradley Jr. and Alexia Smithers of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 7:13 P.M. Friday April 12, 2024, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. He was born April 2, 2024, in Peoria.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Deanna Smithers, Jimmy England, Robin Coffey, and D’Angelo Bradley, Sr.; great-grandparents, Christy Allen, Linda and Linden Coffey Sr., and Patsy England; and aunts and uncles, Camden and Onna Smithers, Teara Marcum, Jaylee, Isaiah, and Leland England, and Sydney and Cameron Coffey.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, James Gregory Smithers.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

Bradley Allen Cannon, Sr., 63, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 9:13 A.M. Saturday April 13, 2024, at his home. He was born January 4, 1961, in Champaign, IL, the son of Allen “Al” and Karen L. (Mansfield) Cannon.

He is survived by his mother, Karen Cannon; two sons, Bradley Allen (Brandy) Cannon, Jr., of Rankin, IL and Todd Alan Crawford of Charleston, WV; two sisters, Angela “Rae” Cannon of Lake Havasu City, AZ, and Cheryl A. Cannon of Mesa, AZ; four grandchildren, Jaxson Cannon, and Alexis, Forest, and August Crawford; and three nieces and nephews, Trisha Miller, Rachel Shaw, and Tony Shaw. He is also survived by his partner, Cathy Smith, and her children, Gage Clayburn, Nick Cardenas, and Anthony Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father, “Al” Cannon.

Bradley was a long-time professional truck driver, driving for Raven’s and then Bay and Bay before becoming an owner operator. He enjoyed tinkering around in the garage and working outside in his yard.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Monday, April 29, 2024, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. No burial will be held.

Ruth E. Brazel, 93, of Rossville, IL

Ruth Elizabeth Brazel, 93, of Rossville, IL, passed away at 5:34 A.M. Saturday April 13, 2024, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston. She was born October 15, 1930, in Rossville, the daughter of Earl and Pauline (Carrier) Strawser. She married Howard Lewis Brazel on December 11, 1949, in Rossville. He survives.

She is also survived by one daughter, Barbara (Kenny) McVicker of Hoopeston, IL; one son, Steve (Cindy) Brazel of Hoopeston, IL; one sister, Cathy (Bob) Simpson of Hoopeston, IL; five grandchildren, Amy Martinez, Kim Clagg, Jami Weidenburner, Josh Brazel, and Chris Brazel; fourteen great-grandchildren, Acacia Britt, Ashante, Amillya, and Aryanna Martinez, Wyatt, Taylor, Dylan, and Benny Stephenson, Emma, Parker, Ethan, Maddie, and Payton Brazel; five great-great-grandchildren, Malakai, Christopher, Arrow, and Manola Uppinghouse, Luther Britt, and one more on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Linda and Martha; and three brothers, Bob, Dick, and Charles.

Ruth worked at Molly Culbert’s in Hoopeston and then Tee-Pak. She later worked for many years as a janitor at the Rossville Church of Christ, where she was also a member. She was an avid crocheter and enjoyed baking and doing word search puzzles. Ruth especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Friday April 19, 2024, at the Rossville Church of Christ, 514 E. Attica St., Rossville, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Friday at the church with Pastor Kevin Purdy officiating. Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery.

Ronnie Joe "Archie" Riddle, 59, of Cheneyville,

Ronnie Joe “Archie” Riddle, 59, of Cheneyville, IL, passed away at 4:57 P.M. Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born September 29, 1964, in Hoopeston, IL, the son of Dewey and Violet (Mason) Riddle. He married Kallie Tilley on June 13, 1992, at the Cheneyville Christian Church. She survives in Cheneyville.

He is also survived by four children, Dusty (Nancy) Branscum of Somerset, KY, Rosie Riddle of Danville, IL, Lori Riddle (Allen Wilson) of Sandusky, OH, and Alex Riddle of Cheneyville, IL; two sisters, Gaye (Jim) Brummett of Brandon, FL and Janet (Mark) Thilmony of Brandon, FL; one brother, Roger (Judy) Riddle of Raub, IN; six grandchildren, Rory, Jack, Willow, Victoria, Spencer, and Marc; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal and maternal grandparents; one sister, Doris Riddle; and several aunts and uncles.

Archie worked as a mechanic and later worked in parts at a local garage in Kentucky. After moving to Hoopeston, he worked on race car bodies for Jammie Wilson. He attended the Cheneyville Christian Church. He enjoyed tinkering around in his garage and working on muscle cars.  Archie’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.   

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday April 16, 2024, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Stony Point Baptist Church in Albany, KY, with a two-hour visitation being held prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in Cartwright Cemetery in Albany, KY.

Barbara Maria Brewster, 62, of Danville, IL, formerly of Hoopeston

Barbara Maria Brewster, 62, of Danville, IL, formerly of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 7:10 A.M. Sunday March 17, 2024, at Arcadia Care in Danville. She was born May 23, 1961, in El Paso, TX, the daughter of Alta Decker. She married David Brewster on February 24, 1979, at the Milford Christian Church in Milford, IL. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Leitha Brewster of Milford, IL and Amie Brewster of Danville, IL; one son, Joshua Brewster of Danville, IL; two grandsons, Bryce Kinnard and Caleb Hartman; one niece, Tiffany Decker; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

In addition to her husband, Barbara was preceded in death by one brother, John Decker; and one nephew, Darrin Brewster.

Barbara worked at the Coffee Cup and later at Hoopeston Coin Laundry. She enjoyed drinking a cup of coffee while watching The Price is Right on television. She also enjoyed watching soap operas and spending time with her family.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a private graveside service will be held.
