Ralph Eugene "Pee Wee" Drollinger, 87, of Hoopeston

Ralph Eugene “Pee Wee” Drollinger, 87, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 7:20 P.M. Monday February 24, 2020 at his home.  He was born March 29, 1932, at home in Hoopeston, IL., the son of Lee and Allena M. (Bradshaw) Drollinger.  He married Beverly Jean Watson and she preceded him in death in Nov. 1983.  Together they had three children, Nina Drollinger who survives in Rankin, IL, and Vickie Beaty and Mark Drollinger who preceded him in death.  He later married Virginia Jean Taflinger on November 30, 1991, in Las Vegas, NV.  She survives in Hoopeston along with her children Debra (Lupe) Rivera of TX and Phillip (Dee) Hollen of TX.

 

He is also survived by one daughter-in-law, Susie Drollinger of Hoopeston, IL; one brother, Howard (Carol) Drollinger of Clinton, IN; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Swan of Danville, IL; one brother-in-law, Danny (Gale) Watson of Flanagan, IL; 13 grandchildren, Billy Ervin, Becky Ervin, Anthony (Stacey) Raker, Zackary Raker, Holly Baker, Patrick Drollinger, Chris Land, Amelia (Dharyl) Daduya, Richard Rivera, Emily (Adam) Ener, Kyle Hollen, Drew Smith, and Jordan Tatum; 15 great-grandchildren, Chelsea (T.J.) Mac, Rachel (David) Cross, Rollin, Rocklyn, Willow Starr and Lia Rudisill, Morgan, Colton, Mason Raker, Kyli, Kadi, Kali Baker, Bowdy Irvin, Magnolia Ener, and Kav Smith; 2 great-great grandchildren, Gracie Irvin & Ryder Cross as well several nieces and nephews.

 

 He is also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Earl “Bud” Drollinger.

Pee Wee worked at American Can Co. in Hoopeston and later became a union electrical contractor owning and operating Drollinger Electric.  He was a member of the Hoopeston Masonic Star Lodge #709.  For several years, he was an Auxiliary Policeman for the Hoopeston Police Department.  Pee Wee enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, going on cruises, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He also enjoyed shooting and had won many awards as a sharpshooter.

 

A visitation will be held 2:00 – 5:00 P.M. Sunday March 1, 2020 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL, with masonic rites being held at 4:30 P.M. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday March 2, 2020 at the funeral home with Larry Baughn officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

 

Memorials may be made to the Hoopeston Masonic Star Lodge #709, the Dementia Society of America or to the charity of your choice.

George A. Boudreau, 87, of Clifton

George A. Boudreau, 87, of Watseka and formerly of Martinton, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka. He was born on September 6, 1932 in Martinton Twp., the son of George J. and Anna M. (Arseneau) Boudreau. He married Beverly Rich in Chebanse on March 3, 1962.

 

Surviving are his wife Beverly Boudreau of Watseka; one daughter, Dana (Michael) Blanchette of Bourbonnais; one son, Tom (Mari) Boudreau of Maypearl, TX; one sister, Lana Beaupre of Clifton; nine grandchildren, Nathan, Allison, Lauren, Joseph, Deborah, Benjamin, Timothy, Rebekah, and Elijah; six great grandchildren, Hudson, Nora, Levi, Myles, Gavin, and Wade.

 

George was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Duane and Ivan; one sister, Velma; and one grandson, Brett Hoy.

 

Mr. Boudreau was a lifelong farmer in the Iroquois County area. He enjoyed antique tractors.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. Father Dan Belanger will officiate. Burial will follow in L’Erable Catholic Cemetery in L’Erable.

Visitation will be from 9:00 until the 11:00 am funeral service on Monday also at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.

Marie Brown, 84, of Watseka

Marie Brown, 84, of Watseka passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on August 4, 1935 in Watseka, the daughter of Martin D. and Gertrude (Gocken) Johnson. She married Robert Redman and he passed away on April 5, 2014. She later married James Brown on May 22, 1981 in Champaign and he preceded her in death on May 4, 2011.

Surviving are three daughters, Debbie (Steve) McCullough of Watseka, Pam (John) Baldwin of Greenville, SC and Jill (Gary) Law of Perkasie, PA; two sons, Jeff (Dawn) Brown of Rock Falls, IL and Greg (Joyce) Brown of Rockford, IL; one brother, Marion (Fran) Johnson of West Lafayette, IN; and one sister, Carolyn (Mike) Gerkin of Apple Valley, MN; eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

 

Marie was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Crescent City, where she was a women’s group member. She was the past executive director of the county USDA office where she trained many employees in the State and Federal USDA offices. She was a member of the National Active Retired Federal Employees Association, where she was a past president and secretary. Mrs. Brown was a volunteer at Iroquois Memorial Hospital. She loved playing golf, cards and games, particularly Farkle, with her family. Marie was a talented artist and especially enjoyed water color painting. Most importantly, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Rev. Joel Brown will officiate. Burial will follow at G.A.R. Cemetery in Watseka.

 

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.

 

Memorials may be made to Iroquois Memorial Hospice or St. Peter Lutheran Church in Crescent City.

Marietta "Eileen" G. Layden, 92, of Hoopeston

Marietta “Eileen” G. Layden, 92, of Hoopeston, passed away at 6:44 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2020, at Autumn Fields.  Arrangements are incomplete at Blurton Funeral Home.

Carol Ann Hughes, 76, of Rankin

Carol Ann Hughes, 76, of Rankin, IL, passed away at 5:15 P.M. Thursday February 20, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.  She was born March 27, 1943 in Morris, IL, the daughter of Walter Lyle and Ila Mae (Baker) Pope.  She married Gerald Eugene Hughes on October 30, 1960 in Joliet, IL.  He survives in Rankin.

 

She is also survived by five children, Vicki (David) McMillin of Glasgow, KY, Joyce Coffey of Hoopeston, IL, Donna (James) Carroll of Wilmington, IL, Deborah (Jason) Pickett of Hoopeston, IL, and Steven Hughes of Rockdale, IL; one sister, Teresa Pope of Muncie, IN; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gerald Hughes Jr.; two brothers, Richard Pope and James Pope; one son-in-law, Jackey Coffey; three grandchildren, Gerald, Timmy, and Jeremy; and two great-grandchildren, Colt and Isabella Boyne.

Carol was a homemaker.  She was a member of Troy Sportman’s Club, Rockdale AC, the Bowling Association, the VFW, and the Eagles.  She also enjoyed playing Bingo.

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Monday February 24, 2020 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday February 25, 2020 at the funeral home.  Following the service, cremation rites will be accorded, and burial will be held at a later date at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.

Thomas L. "Tommy" Dalton, 33, of Hoopeston

Thomas L. “Tommy” Dalton, 33, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 2:42 P.M. Sunday February 16, 2020.  He was born June 24, 1986, in Pinellas, FL, the son of Robert and Kathie (Carter) Dalton.  They preceded him in death.

 

He is survived by his significant other, Amanda Vonderharr; daughters, Onna Smithers and Skyla Vonderharr; sister, Michelle; brother, Robert Evan (Bev) Dalton of Hoopeston, IL; grandmother, Betty Carter of Hoopeston, IL; and nephew, Keagan Dalton.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Talmage and Eileen Dalton; maternal grandfather, Norman Carter; and five aunts, Jackie, Vickie, Shelia, Marcy, and Sandy.

Cremation rites will be accorded, and no services will be held.

Shirley Harris Danforth, 84, of Osage Beach, MO passed away on February 19th in Osage Beachn MO.

Garry M. Rutledge, 64, of Milford

Garry M. Rutledge, 81, of Milford passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 19th at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

 

A funeral Service is set for 1:30PM on Saturday, February 22nd at the Knapp Funeeral Home in Milford. A visitation is set for 4:00PM-8:00PM on Friday, Feb. 21st at the Knapp Funeral Home in Milford

Gilbert "Gib" Stock, 85 of Watseka

Gilbert “Gib” Stock, 85 of Watseka passed away on Monday, February 17, 2020 at the Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka. He was born on November 2, 1934 at the family farm in rural Rankin, the son of William and Mabel Jane (Clifton) Stock. He married Kathryn “Kathy” Martin in Cissna Park on December 4, 1955.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy Stock, of Watseka; five children, Denise (Scott) Sims of Wellington, Dianne (Reid) Page of Watseka, Dale (Angie) Stock of Hoopeston, Darla Stock of Fishers, IN, and Danell Moberly of Bloomington, IL; eight grandchildren, Luke Sims, Seth (Alexis) Sims, Emily (Logan) Davis, Aaron (Amanda) Goodrum, Michelle (Ryan) Brase, Kelsey (Anthony) Cappellano, Matt (Madie) Stock, and Chet Stock; ten great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Gib was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and five sisters.

He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Cissna Park where he served as a Sunday school teacher and usher. Gib was a lifetime dairy farmer in the East Lynn area, drove a school bus for East Lynn and Hoopeston school districts for many years, and after retiring, he worked at Tractor Supply in Danville from 1988-1999. Mr. Stock served on the Prairie Farms Dairy Board and was an active 4-H Leader both for many years. He was an avid Cornjerker, Illini, and Cardinal fan. Gib was a starter in 1952 for the East Lynn Hornets basketball team who were the Vermillion County Champions that year. Gib loved attending his children and grandchildren’s activities. He loved gardening, baking, and spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the Apostolic Christian Church in Cissna Park. Ministers of the Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Cissna Park.

Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00-8:00 pm at Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park.

Norman C. Absher, 65, of Hoopeston, IL

Norman C. Absher, 65, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 4:00 A.M. Sunday February 16, 2020 at the Gilman Nursing Home.  He was born January 11, 1955, in Danville, IL, the son of Haskel and Annis (Keen) Absher.

He is survived by his step-mother, Virginia Absher of Hoopeston, IL; half-sister, Julie (Al) Carl of Hoopeston, IL; one niece, Kayla (Mike) Bodensteiner of Hoopeston, IL; one nephew, Kasey Carl of Hoopeston, IL; one great-niece, Carlee Garrison; and two great-nephews, Carson Garrison and Keene Carl.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Annis Absher and his father, Haskel Absher.

Norman was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hoopeston where he had previously sung in the choir.  He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts and Pacers, the St. Louis Rams and Cardinals, the Chicago Bulls, and the Fighting Illini football team.  His other hobbies included fishing and bowling.

A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Thursday February 20, 2020 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home, with Rev. Phillip Callahan officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Jeffrey Dale Mitchell, 73, of Boswell, IN

Jeffrey Dale Mitchell, 73, of Boswell, IN, passed away at 4:40 P.M. Friday February 14, 2020 at his home.  He was born December 22, 1946, in Brazil, IN, the son of Earl and Martha (Hinshaw) Mitchell.  He married Jill Allyn Brockway of Hoopeston, IL, on September 5, 1970, at the Hoopeston United Methodist Church. 

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jill; two daughters, Jennifer (Ashton) Eldridge of Phoeniz, AZ and Jessica (Patrick) Quinn of Phoenix, AZ; one son, James Mitchell of Boswell, IN; one sister, Dr. June Frye of Prince George, British Columbia; two brothers, Stephen (Wanda) Mitchell of Decatur, IL and John Mitchell of South Bend, IN; two sisters-in-law, Jane (Jary) Archer and Judy Brockway (Mark Skelton); three grandchildren, Megan and Emily Quinn and Jack Eldridge; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Marjorie Brockway; and one brother-in-law, Dr. Russell Frye.

Jeff worked at Jasper County Coop which later became Ceres Solutions as the Boswell Branch Manager.  He later worked for Mark Layden Farms, Randy Weber and most recently Senesac Farms.  He was a member of the Boswell United Methodist Church and later attended the Hoopeston United Methodist Church.  He was also a member of the Pine Village Masonic Lodge #315.  Jeff enjoyed volunteering at the Benton County Fair, fishing, attending races with his son and had a love for sports especially basketball and football.  He lived a full life surrounded by family, friends, and his fishing buddies.  Jeff’s greatest enjoyments were spending time with is darling grandchildren and visiting with people, as he never met a stranger.

Per his wishes, he will be cremated.  A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. CST Thursday February 20, 2020 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. CST Friday February 21, 2020 at the Hoopeston United Methodist Church 403 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL, with Pastor Jemiriye Fakunle officiating.  Burial will be held at a later date.

Mark Andrew Lockhart, 73, of Wellington, IL

Mark Andrew Lockhart, 73, of Wellington, IL, passed away at 12:45 P.M. Friday February 14, 2020 at his home.  He was born June 20, 1946, in Danville, IL, the son of Warren and Sara (Weyand) Lockhart. 

 

He married Frances Reed in 1970 in Lebanon, TN and together they had three sons who survive, Samuel (Jane) Lockhart of South Bend, IN, Nathan (Marla) Lockhart of Richmond, VA, and Phillip Lockhart of Bloomington, IL.

 

He is also survived by one sister, Alice J. Lockhart of Wellington, IL; and three grandchildren, Erin Jane Lockhart, Emily Kathryn Lockhart, and Warren Lee Lockhart.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Mark was a life-long farmer which he thoroughly enjoyed.  He was a member of the Wellington United Methodist Church, the Illinois Hereford Association and a past-member of the Wellington Lions Club.  One of Mark’s favorite past-times was fishing.

 

Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday February 21, 2020 at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston with Pastor Robert Puhr officiating.

Brian Keith Woodby, age 50, of Milford

Brian Keith Woodby, age 50, of Milford passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on March 30, 1969 in Brook, Indiana, the son of Lonnie Gene and Sharon (Kissack) Woodby.


Brian is survived by two sons Joshua (Ashley) Krueger of Windsor, CO and Matthew Capocasa of Milford; one daughter Tiffany (Keegan) Capocasa of Watseka; his mother Sharon Woodby of Milford; three brothers Mark (Amy) Woodby of Stockland, Kevin (Georgia) Woodby of Milford and Bubba (Deb) Moore of Watseka; one sister Kristie Woodby of Milford; one sister-in-law Terri Woodby of Milford; two grandsons Clayton and Mason Krueger of Windsor, CO; and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his father Lonnie Gene Woodby and his brother Ronnie Lee Woodby.
Brian worked for Stockland Service for 15 years, and was lovingly known as “the tire guy”. He enjoyed truck and tractor pulls, demolition derbies and listening to country western music; but most of all, Brian loved spending time with his family, especially at family cookouts.


Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 4-8pm at Milford Christian Church. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11am, with visitation one hour prior, also at Milford Christian Church. Burial will follow at Sugar Creek Cemetery in Stockland.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Donor’s Choice.

Harlan Howard Thornsbrough, 91, formerly of Alvin, IL

Harlan Howard Thornsbrough, 91, formerly of Alvin, IL, passed away at 10:15 P.M. Saturday February 8, 2020 at The Waters of Covington.  He was born March 5, 1928, on a farm east of Alvin, IL, the son of Ennis and Evelyn (Hughes) Thornsbrough.  He married Vernice Wylder on June 1, 1947 in Alvin, IL.  She preceded him in death on July 4, 2011.

 

He is survived by one daughter, Ginger (Ronnie) Mack of Covington, IN; one son, Steve (Marie) Thornsbrough of Alvin, IL; three sisters, Shirley Stephenson of Alvin, IL, June Cain of Pittsboro, IN, and Jo Lynn Sutton of Alvin, IL; one brother, David (Carolyn) Thornsbrough of Alvin, IL; three grandchildren, Brock (Amie) Thornsbrough, Brad (Michell) Thornsbrough, and Marcy (Martin); one grandson-in-law, Paul Powell; eleven great-grandchildren, Lauren, Brooklyn, Nathan, Evan, Josh, Mia, Peyton, Paige, Arieal, Chian, and Lanie; and several nieces and nephews. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Howard; two brothers, Wayne (Bess) Thornsbrough and Jay Thornsbrough; three brothers-in-law, Wally Stephenson, Butch Cain, and George Sutton; and one granddaughter, Brittany Powell.

 

Harlan was a life-long farmer.  He previously served as a Trustee on the South Ross Township Board, was a past-member of the Alvin Grade School board, served as a volunteer firefighter on the Alvin Fire Department, and drove for the Red Cross.  He was a member of the Alvin Christian Church where he had served as a Deacon.  Harlan enjoyed racing stock cars, late models, and midget cars with his son.  He also loved watching sports, especially basketball. 

 

Cremation rites will be accorded.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday February 14, 2020 at Bethel Cemetery in rural Alvin, IL, with Harlan’s grandson, Brock Thornsbrough, officiating.

Marvin Charles Bauer, 89, of Normal Illinois

Marvin Charles Bauer, 89, of Normal Illinois and formerly of Urbana and Cissna Park passed away on February 10, 2020 at Heritage Health in Normal. He was born on October 13, 1930 in Cissna Park, the son of Charles G. and Barbara (Leman) Bauer and they preceded him in death.

 

He married Shirley Ann Schmitt on October 14, 1951 in Cissna Park and they celebrated 67 years of marriage. Shirley preceded him in death almost one year ago. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Wesley, Arch, Loren and Sam and one sister, Arlene Moser.


Marvin and Shirley were blessed with four children, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren who all survive him. Children are Russell (Colleen) Bauer of Bloomington IL, Rhonda (Leslie) Steiner of Davenport IA, Rosemary (David) Nevin of Cleveland MS, and Ryan Bauer (Kim) of Mansfield IL. Grandchildren are Brock (Kristen) Bauer, Jill (David) Stutzman, Jodi (Adam) Kimball, Travis (Caitlin) Steiner, Matthew Steiner, Lindsay Bauer, Lauren (Josh) Juchems, Brooke Bauer, Josh Bauer and Jared Bauer. Also surviving Marvin are one sister, Thelma (Lloyd) Frey of Remington IN and one brother, Don (Glo) Bauer of Tucson AZ.


Marvin was a farmer in Cissna Park for many years. During this time, he was also a PAG dealer, 4H leader, and Sunday School teacher. As he transitioned from retiring as a farmer, he was a Mac Tools distributor in Champaign-Urbana. He really enjoyed getting to know his Mac customers and won several awards for sales and customer service over the years. Marvin was an avid sports fan especially for the Cincinnati Reds and the Fighting Illini. He was a member of Christian Bible Church, Cissna Park and then Twin City Bible Church during their time in Champaign-Urbana. Marvin served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was discharged as Sergeant.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14 at the Knapp Funeral Home, Cissna Park with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Cissna Park Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Cissna Park American Legion.


Memorials may be made to American Macular Degeneration Foundation.

Kimberly Merle Cox, 67, of Normal IL

Kimberly Merle Cox, 67 of Normal, IL passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington. He was born August 17, 1952 in Watseka, the son of Guy and Hilda (Cohernour) Baker. After Guy’s passing, Kim was later adopted by D. Gene Cox.


He is survived by his wife, Sarita and son, Kameron (Barbara) Cox all of Normal. Also surviving are sisters, Casandra (Robert) Jacobs of Thawville, Valerie Cox of Roberts, and Katana (Todd) Cook of Onarga; and several beloved nieces and nephews. Kim was preceded in death by his parents.


KC retired as a medical technician for the State of Illinois Department of Corrections. For many years he had volunteered for the Colfax Fire Department and Ambulance Service. Kim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, many outdoor activities, and cheering on the Chicago Bears and Cubs, and Illinois State Redbirds. KC was known for his sense humor and generosity.


Cremation rites have been accorded by the Knapp-Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman, where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 8. Pastor Brian King will officiate. Visitation for friends and family will be held one hour prior to the service.

Teresa Lynn Bolen, 49, of Cissna Park

Teresa Lynn Bolen, 49, of Cissna Park passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka. She was born on November 1, 1970, the daughter of John A. and Karen (Quakenbush) Bolen. She was preceded in death by her father, John A. Bolen, her maternal grandparents, Lena and Earl Quakenbush, and her paternal grandparents, Rosie and Lee Bolen.

 

She is survived by her mother, Karen S. Bolen of Cissna Park; one sister, Tammy (Curtis) Hansen of Cedar Rapids, IA; two nieces, Katie Hougas and Revlis Hansen; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

 

Cremation rites have been accorded by Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park.

 

A graveside memorial service will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Milford. Rev. William Daughtery will officiate.

Virgil L. Schroeder, 87, of Crescent City

Virgil L. Schroeder, 87, of Crescent City went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Luther Place in Danforth. He was born December 20, 1932 in Crescent Twp., the son of Arthur E. and Irene A. (Luecke) Schroeder and they preceded him in death in addition to three brothers, one son-in-law, one grandson, and one step-great-granddaughter.

 

He married Marilyn Poff on May 15, 1954 in Chebanse and she survives. Also surviving are three children, Denise (Dave) Kosik of Crescent City, Keith (Bev) Schroeder of Edwardsville and Julie Schroeder of Bloomingdale; one sister, Janet Taylor of Chicago; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

 

Mr. Schroeder served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a lifelong farmer in Crescent Twp. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Woodworth, where he served in numerous offices within the church. He was a founding board member of Prairieview Lutheran

 

Nursing Home, where he later served as a spiritual caregiver. He also served on the Iroquois County Board, Woodland-Darrow Farmers Co-op, Iroquois County Area Career Center, and was a member of the American Legion for 63 years. Virgil had been the Crescent Twp. Supervisor, Director of the Woodland Fire District, and a part time employee at Knapp Funeral Home.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Woodworth. Rev. Michael Stoerger will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery at Woodworth with military graveside rites by Watseka American Legion Post #23 and Iroquois

County VFW Post #7450.


Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2020 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

 

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Woodworth, Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth or Iroquois Memorial Hospice.

Howard Eugene Johnson, 80, of Hoopeston

Howard Eugene Johnson, 80, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 10:45 A.M. Tuesday February 4, 2020 at his home.  He was born August 5, 1939, in Hoopeston, the son of Harold and Mildred (Dukes) Johnson.  He married Myrna McNeely on December 20, 1958 in Hoopeston.  She survives in Hoopeston.

 

He is also survived by two sons, Greg (Kimberly) Johnson of Danville, IL and Danny (Sarah) Johnson of Birmingham, MI; one daughter-in-law, Ava Johnson of Wellington, IL; one sister, Connie (George) Kult of Hoopeston, IL; one brother, Roy Johnson of Indianapolis, IN; one sister-in-law, Judy Johnson of West Lafayette, IN; 6 grandchildren, Tyler (Jessica) Johnson, Stewart Johnson, Trace (Sarah) Madison, Allison Johnson, Reagan Johnson, and Andrew Johnson; one step-grandson, Clayton (Destiny) Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; one son, Tony Johnson; two sisters, Ellen ? and Joyce Denison; and one brother, Harold “Butch” Johnson.

 

Howard worked at FMC in Hoopeston as a machinist until his retirement.  He was a dedicated Cornjerker and Illini fan and loved spending time with his family and friends.

 

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Monday February 10, 2020 at Anderson Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday February 11, 2020 at the funeral home, with Pastor Brent Zastrow officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Dale "Sandy" Wallace III, 83, of Hoopeston

Dale “Sandy” Wallace III, 83, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 11:47 A.M. Wednesday February 5, 2020, at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center in Hoopeston, IL.  He was born November 20, 1936, in Hoopeston, IL, the son of Dale “Rusty” and Marguerite “Marge” (Trego) Wallace II.  He married Thea M. Mathaser on April 28, 1959 in Bad Aibling, West Germany.  She preceded him in death.

 

He is survived by two sons, Michael A. (Jennifer) Wallace of Fisher, IL and Scott W. (Carolyn) Wallace of Mackinaw, IL; two grandchildren, Kyle (Carrie) Wallace and Julianne (Kyle) Storm; two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Bryer Wallace; and two nieces, Heather McClane and Valerie Mace.  He is also survived by a special friend, Patsy Farley.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Natalie Chevillet.

 

Sandy ran the family insurance agency for many years, taking it over from his father.  He also loved farming and took over running the family farm for a number of years.  He served in the United States Army from 1956 – 1959 and was a member of the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.  He was an avid golfer and member of Hubbard Trail Country Club where he was a multiple time men’s club champion.  Sandy loved the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, GA which he attended for 43 consecutive years. 

 

Cremation rites will be accorded.  A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Monday February 10, 2020 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home with Steve Unger officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.  Military rites will be accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.

Darlene Ren, 84, of Danville

Darlene Ren, 84, of Danville, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2020, at Hawthorne Inn, in Danville.

Darlene was born on July 13, 1935, in Penfield, Illinois, the daughter of Orville Ray and Flossie Adaline (Spain) Ellis.  She married Richard A. Ren on April 26, 1974, in Potomac.  He preceded her in death on September 17, 2004.

 

She is survived by two sons- Don (Kristi) Morgan of Potomac and Rick (Joann) Ren of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; one daughter- Joni (Tommy) Ford of Southlake, Texas; two sisters- Judy Cox and Patricia King both of Potomac; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by his parents, husband, two daughters- Becky Ashcraft and Lori Byrnes, and two brothers- Bob and Ed Ellis.

 

Darlene graduated from Potomac High School, in 1953.  She worked for several years at Busey Bank, until her retirement in 1997.  She enjoyed reading and decorating.

 

A Celebration of Darlene Ren’s Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2020, at Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac, with Greg Breedan officiating. 

 

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.  She will be laid to rest following the service in Potomac Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Carol Lee Decker, 88, of Champaign, IL

Carol (Teegarden) Decker, 88, of Champaign, IL, formerly of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 2:53 P.M. Monday February 3, 2020 at Evergreen Place in Champaign.  She was born February 23, 1931, in Prairie Green Township, IL, the daughter of Eldon and Ruth (Stoup) Teegarden.  She married John William Decker II on July 5, 1952 at the First Christian Church in Hoopeston.  He preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Ann (David) Quigg of Champaign, IL and Molly (Stephen) Ayers of Champaign, IL; one son, John William (Diana) Decker III of Winterville, NC; six grandchildren, Joseph (Alex) Decker, William Decker, Rachel (Chris) Haverstrom, Andrew Ayers, Alexandra (Rémy) Braconnot, and Hannah (Joseph) Trautman; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William (Leena) Teegarden.

Carol worked at FMC in Hoopeston as a secretary and later raised her family as a homemaker.  She later managed Adler’s Dress Shop in Hoopeston.  She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and the Hoopeston Garden Club.  She was an avid antique collector, enjoyed being a wedding coordinator, and had an interest in interior decorating.  Carol also enjoyed her time at Hubbard Trail Country Club, playing bridge, and traveling with her husband.

A visitation will be held 12:00 – 1:00 P.M. Saturday February 15, 2020 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Saturday February 15, 2020 at the funeral home, with Pastor Kris Light officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

David Clifton Gentry, 70, of Potomac

David Clifton Gentry, 70, of Potomac, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2020, at the VA Illiana Healthcare System, in Danville.

David was born on September 6, 1949, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Vernon Lyle and Betty Marie (Bogart) Gentry.  He married Karen Piatt on January 31, 1975, in Las Vegas, Nevada.  She survives.

He is also survived by one daughter- Salina Gentry; three sons- Rebel (Lisa) Gentry of Clifton, Arizona, Clifton Gentry of Rantoul and Ty (Tiffany) Gentry of McLoud, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law- Neanna Gentry of Meeker, Oklahoma; and ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father- Tom Hamm and one son- SSgt David Clifton Gentry II USMC.

David worked at Vermilion Rubber Technology for several years.  He enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour books, fishing, bowling, and just being with family.
