Louise Morgan, 97, of Hoopeston, IL, formerly of Rossville, IL, passed away at 1:44 A.M. Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at her home.  She was born January 5, 1924, in Bradfordsville, KY, the daughter of Bluford and Mattie (Evans) Tharp.  She married Felix Morgan on September 19, 1942 in Gilpin, KY.  He survives. 

She is also survived by one daughter, Brenda (Gary) Weinard of Hoopeston; one son, Terry (Barbara) Morgan of Hoopeston; four sisters, Beulah Burchell of Bradfordsville, KY, Bobbie Lee Zottman of Lebanon, KY, Wanda Marlow of Bradfordsville, KY, and Mary Rita (Fred) McClure of Bradfordsville, KY; five grandchildren, Kevin (Rhonda) Weinard, Brian Weinard, Matthew (Gina) Morgan, Lea Morgan, and Quentin (Mary) Morgan, eleven great grandchildren, seven great – great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and two special cousins, Betty Kincheloe and Anne Mardis both of Campbellsville, KY. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Louise taught school in a one room school house.  She then helped her husband on the farm.  She was a member of the Rossville Church of God.  Louise loved to travel and spend time with her family and friends.

Patricia Ann Ross, 79, of Hoopeston, IL passed away 10:03 P.M. Saturday, September 25, 2021 in Oakwood, IL.  She was born June 1, 1942 in Rensselaer, IN, the daughter of Harold and Evelyn (Spriggs) Brown. 

She is survived by two daughters, Christina Huddleston of Hoopeston and Susette Rubeck (Kent Reynolds) of Monticello, IN; one son, Charles D. Brewster of Hoopeston; several sisters and brothers – in law; several brothers and sisters – in law; ten grandchildren, Travis (Jennifer) Rubeck, Sarah (Eric) Brehm, Ryan (Jennifer) Huddleston, Shane Rubeck, Jenifer (A.J.) Garrison, Christopher (Andrea) Huddleston, Meghan (Jon) Andol, Mitchell (Lauryn) Brewster, Drake Rubeck (Anastasiya), and Chuckiara Huddleston; thirteen great grandchildren, Caleb Huddleston, Landon Huddleston, Eidan Huddleston, Roman Brehm, Connor Andol, Olivia Andol, Keaghan Webber, Rowan Huddleston, Logan Brewster, Hailey Brooks, Hanna Brooks, Logan Todd, and Bella Rubeck, and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Jeremy Brewster. 

Patricia worked at FMC in Hoopeston for twelve years and then worked at McGills in Monticello, IN for ten years.  She liked to bird watch, do puzzles, play solitaire on the tablet, garden, babysit the grandkids and great grandkids, and loved spending time with her family. 

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Carle in Hoopeston and St. John’s Hospital in Springfield for the wonderful care she received. 

Per her wish, cremation rites will be accorded and a burial will be held at a later date.

William “Bill” Sanford, 64, of Hoopeston, IL passed away at 3:47 P.M. Monday, September 27, 2021 at his home.  He was born December 6, 1956 in Watseka, IL, the son of Jim and Nancie (Ingram) Hardwick.   

He is survived by two daughters, Sonya Sanford of  Jefferson City, MO and Samantha Sanford of Hoopeston, IL;  two sons, Marty Jo Sanford of Tucson, AZ and Chad (Bobbi Jo) Sanford of Sheldon, IL; one sister, Betty (Steve) Comstock of Hoopeston, IL; three brothers, Ed (Robin) Sanford of Rantoul, IL, Carl (Marla) Sanford of Hoopeston, IL, and Brian (Diane) Snyder of West Arora, IL; seven grandchildren, Bryce Schwartz, Hannah Sanford, Madalynn Sanford, Leah Huls, Desiree Sanford, Caiden Sanford, and Shatee (Brad) Slack, and many nieces and nephews. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Anita Hardwick, and one daughter, Dawn Marie Sanford. 

He served two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and then served eight years in the National Guard, as a medic. Throughout his life, he drove a truck for several different companies.  He enjoyed riding motorcycles, helping people, hanging out with his friends, and spending time with his family.  He was always the life of the party. 

Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be at the Danville National Cemetery at a later date.

Virginia Ann Sheppard, 71, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 6:20 A.M. Saturday September 25, 2021, at Hawthorne Inn of Danville.  She was born February 17, 1950, the daughter of Ray and Jennie (Wilson) Stipp.  She married Steve Sheppard on September 7, 1968, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hoopeston.  He survives in Hoopeston. 

She is also survived by her mother, Jennie Stipp of Hoopeston, IL; three sons, Alan Sheppard of Hoopeston, IL, Mark Sheppard of Danville, IL, and Brad (Dawn) Sheppard of Lakewood, OH; one brother, Gordon (Renee) Stipp of Hoopeston, IL three sisters-in-law, Gayle (Pete) Davitto of Clarksville, GA, Joellyn (Mark) Hamm of Tilton, IL, and Jeannine (Donnie) Arvick Colfax, IL;; three brothers-in-law, Ronnie (Karen) Sheppard of Chatsworth, IL, Neil (Connie) Sheppard of St. Anne, IL, and Duane (Linda) Sheppard of Hoopeston, IL; five grandchildren, Jaylin Marcot, Ryan Sheppard, Kelan Sheppard, Taylor Sheppard, and Lauren Sheppard; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Stipp; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sally and Gene Sheppard; and sister-in-law, Judy (Steve) Becker. 

Virginia worked as a registered nurse for Carle for 25 years until her retirement.  She loved spending time outdoors, gardening, and camping with her family.  She also enjoyed canning, watching Nascar, and spending time with her family and animals. 

Per her wishes, she will be cremated.  A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Tuesday October 5, 2021, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. Tuesday October 5, 2021, at the funeral home, with Father Ted Pracz officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, IL.

Doris M. Knapp, 96 of Cissna Park passed away on Monday September 20, 2021 at Heritage Health in Hoopeston. She was born on September 25, 1924 in Rantoul a daughter of Everett and Nelle Rusk Williams. Doris married Melvin A. Knapp in Peoria on September 27, 1941 and he preceded her in death on November 15, 1995. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters. Survivors include three daughters- Joyce (Skip) Gharst of Loda, Gloria (Randy) Feder of Florence, KY, and Connie (Hector) Medina of Houston, TX; one son-Robert Knapp of Cissna Park; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Friday September 24, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Cissna Park with ministers of the church officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, also at the cemetery.

Robert E. Grimes, 86, of Watseka passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

He was born on October 19, 1934 in Watseka, the son of Aaron and Evangeline (Mowrey) Grimes and they preceded him in death along with one brother, four sisters; one granddaughter; one grandson and one great-grandson.

He married Beverly J. Paro on September 11, 1954 in Watseka and she survives in Watseka. Other survivors include one daughter, Becky (Chad) Munsterman of Momence; two sons, Robert “Bubba” (Roxanne) Grimes of Watseka and Brian (Debi) Grimes of Watseka; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Robert was a member of Cornerstone Ministries in Woodland. He was a gentle giant who loved his church family, children, and grandchildren.
Private family services will be held.

Geneva Evelyn Thilmony, 88, of Rankin, IL, passed away at 2:40 P.M. Monday September 20, 2021, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Pontiac, IL.  She was born June 1, 1933, in Newton, IL, the daughter of Adam and Eileen (Keller) Frichtl.  She married James Thilmony at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church on November 27, 1951.  He preceded her in death.   

She is survived by two daughters, Margaret (James) Trost of Fairbury, IL and Therese (Ron) LeClair of Quarryville, PA; six sons, James (Anne) Thilmony of Cissna Park, IL, Steve (Kim) Thilmony of Paxton, IL, Mark (Janet) Thilmony of Brandon, FL, David (Mary) Thilmony of Rantoul, IL, Timothy Thilmony of Champaign, IL, and William (Dawn) Thilmony of Cooksville, IL; one sister, Mary (Terry) Lewis of White Heath, IL; four brothers, Myron (Roseanna) Frichtl of Paxton, IL, Donald Frichtl of Paxton, IL, Edward Frichtl of Paxton, IL, and Darrell (Mindy) Frichtl of Farmer City, IL; 25 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband, Geneva was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Jason Ky Thilmony, Jennifer Lee Probince, and Christopher Ford. 

Geneva was a homemaker, caring for her family.  She later worked at Caradco Window and Doors in Rantoul for 25 years until her retirement in 2006.  She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hoopeston where she served on the Altar and Rosary.  She was also a member of the Ruddy Pinochle Club.  Geneva enjoyed camping, gardening, knitting, and traveling.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. 

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday September 23, 2021, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL, with a rosary service beginning at 4:00 P.M.  The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday September 24, 2021, at St. Anthony Catholic Church 423 S. Annetta J. Allen, 90, of Watseka passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Gilman Nursing Home in Gilman. She was born on June 1, 1931 in Stockland Twp., the daughter of Alvin and Rebecca (McCormick) Wright. She married Harold Allen in Milford on September 16, 1950 and he preceded her in passing on March 23, 1976. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother; three sisters; one son, Ricky; one daughter, Deborah; and one granddaughter, Rebecca.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheri Noerenberg of Watseka and Christina Carlson of Thawville; one brothers, Frank Wright; two grandchildren, Mandy Noerenberg and Rick Nolte; eight great grandchildren, Samantha, Lance, Haley, Jordan, Dalton, Kloe, Dominick, and Trenton; and one great great grandson, Tristen.

Annetta enjoyed reading, puzzle books, and crafts. She loved to bird watch and liked gameshows.

Services will take place at a later date at Sugar Creek Cemetery in Stockland.

Peter Lorance Gernand Sr., 92 years old, formerly of Potomac, passed away peacefully the morning of September 18, 2021.   Born in the Southside of Chicago, IL in 1929, to Peter John and Lorna Gernand, Pete was affectionately nicknamed Teddy by his sister, Virginia.   The nickname stuck and later he was known as Ted to family and friends. Ted was smitten by Margaret Reed when he saw her working on her rural Potomac family farm.    They married in Chicago on December 4, 1951 and shared almost 62 years of marriage before her death.  Ted was very proud of his family and his farm.  He was father to Jean (Ed) Perkins and Larry (Dianna) Gernand, and Grandpa to Scott (Lisa) Perkins, Andy (Emily) Gernand, Todd (Natalie) Perkins, Katie, (Daniel) Bretscher, Ashley (Matt) Beery, and Luke (Thea) Gernand, and Great grandpa to Mara, Marissa, Miranda, McKenna, Ava, Elania, and Zachary Perkins, Macey, Evan, Drew, and Charlotte Gernand, Noah and Eli Bretscher, and Jordan Beery.  He is survived by a brother, Bill (Phyllis) Gernand and his sisters-in law Sue Reed, Susan Reed, and Marilyn (Bill) Boen, and brothers-in-law Frank (Sharon) Reed and Ralph (Diana) Reed and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant sister, Betty, granddaughter, Emily Jane Gernand, sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Louis vanBurk, sister-in-law. Dorothy Ellis and brothers-in-law, Bob Ellis, Joe, Albert, Kenneth, and Harold Reed.     

Ted was always a hard worker.  He began his career by selling newspapers on a Chicago street corner during the depression.  When Ted was 14, his dad leased him a 40-acre farm, and he became a farmer.  Behind his family, farming became the most important thing in his life.  Ted shared his love of farming with his son, Larry, and grandsons, Andy and Luke, who are now fifth generation Vermilion County farmers.  In 2003, the Gernand's were one of the host farmers of the 50^th Farm Progress Show as well as the first host of the Half Century of Progress Show both held on their Henning, Illinois farm.

 Ted was always an early riser, and he liked to call his family before 6 a.m. to check on them.   After he ate his first breakfast, Ted would check the markets and read the Wall Street Journal.  In the 1990’s, he entered a contest, Wizards of Wall Street sponsored by the News Gazette.  Rather it be his lucky nickel or knowledge, Ted ended up being one of the top 10.

In 1948, Ted was salutatorian of the last graduating class of Alvin High School.   For his graduation gift, his dad took him on the train to the state of Washington.  This trip was the beginning of his love for traveling out West.  In the 1980’s and 90’s, Ted and Margaret shared many vacations with their 3 older grandsons. Even though each year they traveled nearly the same route to the Dakotas and stopped at the same restaurants, the boys always came home with many new stories.

Pete Gernand was a true American farmer, working long hours in his bib overalls.  From spring planting through fall harvest, he enjoyed every day of working on Gernand Farms, but Ted Gernand will be remembered for his infectious laugh, twinkle in his eyes, and that smile, “If you know what I mean?”

Roy Edward “Eddy” Burton, 51, of Milford, IL, passed away at 2:37 P.M. Tuesday September 14, 2021, at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oaklawn, IL.  He was born June 20, 1970, in Danville, IL, the son of Roy E. Burton and Carol A. Kinnaird (Michael) Folmar.   

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Carol and Michael Folmar of Milford, IL; his fiancé, Lorrie Shoaf of Milford, IL; children, Tiffani Ann Sanders of Danville, IL, Edward Ryon Burton of Milford, IL, Brandon Battering of Fowler, IN, Ryan Madison of Enterprise, AL and Sabrina Estevane of Enterprise, AL; two sisters, Toy Lynn Burton of Gilman, IL and Derien Folmar (Matthew Cox) of Danville, IL; two brothers, Christopher A. Burton of Milford, IL and Chad M. Folmar of Milford, IL; 9 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy E. Burton; brother, Jamie Joe Burton; and his grandparents. 

Eddy worked for Times Republic delivering newspapers to Indiana.  He loved working on, and riding go carts and working on stereos.  He always had a joke for everyone and would help anyone in need. 

Cremation rites will be accorded, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Michael David Rutledge of Paxton, IL and formerly of Milford, IL passed away on September 13, 2021. He succumbed to complications of COVID 19. He was 43 years old.

Michael was born April 25, 1978 in El Paso, TX. He was raised in Milford by Don Rutledge and Rhonda (Steve) Wilken-Rutledge-Arseneau.
Michael is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Rybarczyk) Rutledge; one son, Cody Winter; one daughter, Anne Rutledge; his mother, Rhonda (Steve) Arseneau; his father, Don Rutledge; his brothers, Gordon Green, George Green, Jermy (Lori) Green, Jesse Rutledge, Justin Rutledge, Matthew Arseneau; one sister, Darlene (Roberto) Green-Valletta; and his best friend, Alberto (Kenia) Martinez of Milford.

Michael grew up Christian and was surrounded by a large family. He started out on the farm and then moved into town. Growing up like any Midwesterner would, he played baseball, joined cub scouts, and later onto the bigger sports. He couldn’t hide his love for football and lived for those Friday Night Lights. That passion was soon filled by the need to service his country and see the world.

Michael joined the United States Army in June of 1997, a few months after graduating High School. He became an All Wheeled/Tracked Diesel Mechanic and Recovery Specialist as well as a Unit Armor.

Michael served three enlistments with over eight deployments. He received the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal (3), Army Good Conduct Medal (4), National Defense Service Medal (2), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Oversees Service Ribbon (3), Kosovo Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, NATO Medal (2), Combat Action Badge, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge.

Michael was also a Drill Sergeant and a Combat First Responder with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). He even earned his Gold and Silver Spurs with his Calvary Unit.

As a civilian, Michael earned his Mechanic Double ASE, Certified Master Automobile Certification. He closed up his tool box professionally and packed his gear away to focus on raising his two kids – Cody Winter and Anne Rutledge along side his wife, Rebecca (Rybarczyk) Rutledge. He tried his best to lead by example and through it all, his love for his family, his friends, and life in general never faltered.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. funeral service on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Milford Christian Church with Rev. Brent Zastrow officiating. Military rites will follow at 3:30 p.m. by Cissna Park American Legion Post #527.

Verlin J. Lucht, 87, of Watseka passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka. He was born on December 18, 1933 in Watseka, the son of Peter and Helen (Garrelts) Lucht and they preceded him in death.

Verlin is survived by one sister, Joan (Dewaine) VanHoveln of Milford; two nieces, Theresa (Arlyn) Anderson and Denise (Larry) Burton; five nephews, Thomas (Girtie) VanHoveln, Brian (Katie) VanHoveln, Anthony (Anna) VanHoveln, Nathan VanHoveln, and Matthew (Sharon) VanHoveln.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Schwer.

Beverly (Bev) Seibring, 88, of Chebanse passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. She was born November 27, 1932 in Chebanse, the daughter of Lloyd and Lucille (Irps) Burling.

Beverly married Lawrence R. Seibring on February 13, 1954 at the United Church of Christ in Chebanse. Bev was the proud mother of four sons, Ron (Jan) Seibring of St. Cloud, MN, Doug (Cindy) Seibring of Chebanse, Steve (Sue) Seibring of Normal and Scott (Stacy) Seibring of Towanda. Other family includes one sister Marilyn “Pat” (Gerald) Hubert of Martinton, one brother Lloyd “Butch” D. (Bobbie) Burling of St. Anne, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Bev was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Lucille and sister in law Bobbie.

Bev was a member of the United Church of Christ in Chebanse where she was choir director for nearly 70 years and pianist for over 20 years serving in both roles until her passing. Bev and her mother combined for over 80 years as organist/pianist at the church. Bev also served many years as the UCC Youth Group director. She was an active member of the Chebanse community serving on numerous civic organizations. Most recently she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #408, volunteered at Miller Health Care Center, the Clifton Food Pantry and many others. Bev will be fondly remembered by hundreds of students and staff as she served as secretary at Chebanse Grade School for 20 years. Twenty to thirty years after she retired she would be approached by former students who would share kind feelings toward her.

Bev thoroughly enjoyed following her children’s, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren’s activities. She will be remembered for her love of music and friendship but she had no greater passion than her love of family. The only love that was greater than her love of her family was their love of her.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm - 8:00pm on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the United Church of Christ in Chebanse. Pastor Marsha Collins will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Chebanse.

Ronnie S. “Ron” Elliott, 75, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 2:35 P.M. Wednesday Sept. 1, 2021, at Paris Community Hospital in Paris, IL.  He was born August 23, 1946, in Urbana, IL, the son of Vencill and Blanche (Tobia) Elliott.  He married Wanda Isom on May 1, 1992, in Danville, IL.  She preceded him in death. 

He is survived by one daughter, Alice Russell; three sons, John Elliott, Ronnie Elliott, and David Elliott; one step-daughter, Sue Ponder; one step-son, Ryan (Jamie) Barker; 6 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Ron drove a semi for Ravens Trucking for many years.  He served in the United States Navy.  He attended the First Baptist Church in Hoopeston.  Ron loved dogs, talking about semi’s, and watching westerns. 

Cremation rites have been accorded and a graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday September 22, 2021, at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston with Pastor Adam Taubert officiating.

Beth Louise Cunningham, 72, of Tilton, IL, was embraced by Jesus and her beloved son, Tyson, at 11:00 A.M. Thursday September 9, 2021, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville.  She was born October 20, 1948, in Logansport, IN, the daughter of Gene and LaDene Sheagley.  She married Gale Cunningham on July 17, 1970, at the Hopwood Chapel in Johnson City, TN.  He survives in Tilton, IL. 

She is also survived by two daughters, Tonya Greenwood of Lock Haven, PA and Tara (Eric) Woernle of Circle Pines, MN; four brothers, Eric (Sue) Sheagley, David (Darlene) Sheagley, Jonathan Sheagley, and Nathan (Rhonda) Sheagley; five grandchildren, Tyce Greenwood and Emmy Kate, Lizzy, Hannah Grace, and Benjamin Woernle; and several nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by special family friends, Matt Davis and the Lone Wolf Car Club. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Tyson Cunningham; and one son-in-law, Luke Greenwood. 

Beth was a homemaker and mother, caring for her family. She previously worked at Flowers and Gifts by Molly Culbert in Hoopeston.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Danville.  She also served as a volunteer at the Vermilion County Genealogical Society.  Most of all, Beth loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.  She also enjoyed sewing, photography, and flowers. 

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Tuesday September 14, 2021, at the First Baptist Church of Danville 1211 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL.  The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday September 15, 2021, at the church with Pastor Paul D. Rebert and Rev. Fred Rodkey officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Michael Jay Dowell, 41, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 1:08 P.M. Friday September 3, 2021, at his home.  He was born February 9, 1980, in Decatur, IL, the son of Roger Dowell Sr. of Florida and Sherry (Miguel) Murgas of Decatur, IL.   

In addition to his parents, he is also survived by one daughter, Caia Brotherton of Hoopeston, IL; four sons, Cameron, Coda, and Colton Brotherton of Hoopeston, IL and Easton Hood of Hoopeston, IL; one sister, Shawna Zuniga of Decatur, IL; three brothers, Roger (Aissa) Dowell Jr. of Georgetown, IL, Scott (Crystal) Dowell of Decatur, IL, and Rodney Dowell of Decatur, IL; maternal grandmother, Judy Helm of Decatur, IL; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Brotherton; his paternal grandparents; and his maternal grandfather. 

Michael worked at Teasdale Foods in Hoopeston for 18 years where he did maintenance work on machinery.  He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, and doing any mechanical work.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his children.

Brenda K. Gaither, 76, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 5:34 P.M. Wednesday September 8, 2021, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston.  She was born October 26, 1944, in Bloomington, IL, the daughter of Ronald D. Jordan and Crystal M. (McGrath) Jordan Irwin.   

She is survived by one daughter, Dawn (Daniel) Samet of Hoopeston, IL; two sisters, Leona York of Hoopeston, IL and Joyce Allen of Danville, IL; brother-in-law, Larry Mifflin of Shelbyville, IL; three grandchildren, William (Michelle) Samet, Theresa (Lane) Huls, and Elizabeth Samet; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Emerson Huls; six nieces and nephews, Steve (Janine) York of Mesa, AZ, Teri (Gary) Warf of Louisville, KY, Donald (Nancy) York of Louisville, KY, Julie (John) Taylor of Naples, FL, Darrin (Annita) Lucas of Rankin, IL, and Christopher (Lisa) Lucas of Avon, IN; and wonderful friends, Lourdine Florek and Judi Pierce.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-sister, Mary Sue Mifflin; brothers-in-law, Sarge York and Drew Allen; great-grandson, Theodore Gene Huls; nephew, William Lucas; and special friends, Cathy Brown and Lois Cramer. 

Brenda worked as a dispatcher for the Hoopeston Police Department for 30 years until her retirement.  She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Hoopeston.  She enjoyed visiting and having coffee time with her friends.  Brenda loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. 

Per her wishes, she will be cremated.  A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday September 16, 2021, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday September 17, 2021, at the funeral home with Gary Warf officiating.  No burial will be held.

Carmen Santillan, 78, of Onarga passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. She was born on July 7, 1943 in Nuevo León, Mexico, the daughter of Norberto and Maria (Perez) Patlan and they preceded her in death. Carmen married Esequiel Santillan in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico on January 7, 1961 and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2004. She was also preceded in death by one brother and one grandson.

Carmen is survived by eight daughters, Cecilia Santillan of Onarga, Diana Santillan of Onarga, Claudia Santillan of Onarga, Maria (Elias) Garcia of Onarga, Patricia (Armando) Pizano of Onarga, Gloria (J. Guadalupe) Munoz of Onarga, Nora (Rueben) Munoz of Gilman, Laura (Pedro) Vasquez of Rome, GA; one son, Juan Santillan of Onarga; five sisters, Maria G. Perez of Onarga, Rosa Salazar of Onarga, Juanita Paredes of Laredo, TX, Dora Patlan of Laredo, TX, Maria Munos of Bryan, Texas; one brother, Maxima Patlan of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico; thirteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilman.

Barbara Lynn Allen, 68, of East Lynn, IL, passed away at 9:56 A.M. Monday September 6, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  She was born June 13, 1953, in Watseka, IL, the daughter of Bernard Paul and Irene June (Zbinden) Vogel.  She married Keith Edward Allen on January 6, 1979, at the Grace Bible Church at Kellart Lake.  He survives in East Lynn.

In her earlier years, Barb worked at Howard Industries.  After marrying her husband, Keith, in 1979, she began working for Allen Business Enterprises. Throughout the years, she enjoyed working with her family, especially her children and always enjoyed helping them during harvest time.  Barb attended East Lynn Community Followship where she had served as church secretary.  She enjoyed many hobbies including cooking, baking, scrapbooking, and photography.  She also loved sports, traveling, and swimming.  Most of all, Barb loved spending time with her family.

Barbara June Schwartz, 78, of Hoopeston, passed away at 7:55 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2021, at Accolade Healthcare of Paxton on Pells.

Barbara was born on May 19, 1943, in Danville, Illinois, the daughter of Wilbur and Bertha (Lichlyter) Vandenberg.  She married Ronald H Schwartz on January 16, 1962, at the Cheneyville Church of Christ.  He preceded her in death on January 30, 2009.

She is survived by one son- Ronald (Min) Schwartz Jr. of Eugene, OR; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers- William Vandenberg of Texas and Robert (Mary) Vandenberg of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son- Benjamin J Schwartz, step-sister- Connie Horner and step-mother- Edith (Tuttle) Vandenberg.

Barbara graduated from Ambia High School.  She worked as a hairdresser and home business owner as well as various managerial positions in Hoopeston and Danville.  She grew up working on a farm and enjoyed doing crafts, gardening, hospice and volunteering for the share food program.

Dolores E. Wingren, 95, of Crescent City and formerly of Streamwood passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth.

Dolores was born July 27, 1926 in Chicago, the daughter of James and Elma (Pauly) Sharp and they preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one brother, James Sharp; three sons, Thomas J. Wingren, Richard J. Wingren, and Jerome G. Wingren.

Dolores is survived by one son, Daniel (Debra) Wingren of Hampshire; one daughter, Lynn (George) Soucek of Streamwood; daughter-in-law, Susan Wingren of Crescent City; ten grandchildren; twelve great- grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren.

Dolores was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Iroquois County and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Streamwood where she was very active. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as the staff at Prairieview Lutheran Home.

Christine Lee Burke, 64, of Rossville, passed away at 5:14 p.m. Monday, September 6, 2021, at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center.

Chris was born on June 3, 1957, in Danville, the daughter of Herbert A. and Iona Ree (Rife) Smith Jr.

She is survived by one daughter- Jessica (Andy) Atchie of Hoopeston; one son- Billy (Jess) Burke of Hoopeston; eight grandchildren- Jaren (Megan) West, Jadyn West, Tobi West, Alexa Burke, Noah Burke, Michaela Atchie, Mackenzie Atchie and Jackie Atchie; two brothers- Mark Smith and Brian (Jill) Smith both of Rossville; best friend- Marilyn Williams of Rossville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother- David Smith.

Chris graduated from Rossville Alvin High School, in 1975.  She last worked at Joan of Arc, in Hoopeston, as a forklift driver.  She enjoyed listening to music, reading, dancing, shopping, and animals, especially her cats she called "The Boys" Moe and Ryder.  Chris loved spending time with her family and going to her grandchildren’s sporting and school events.

Mary Ellen Snyder age 78 of Englewood, Florida formerly of Hoopeston, passed away August 1, 2021, in Englewood.

Mary Ellen was born October 4, 1942, in Joliet, Illinois, the daughter of Walter & Marian Weber.

She married John Snyder on June 28, 1975.  He survives.  Mary is also survived by a daughter Raynae (Bill) Blair of Lafayette, IN, 3 grandson’s RJ Blair, & Hunter Blair, of Lafayette Indiana, & Brody Harper of Bowling Green, KY. Also survived by two sister's and 1 brother and a favorite cousin Vicky St, Myers.

Mary Ellen served in the United States Air Force.

She enjoyed dancing with the love of her life, golfing, painting, & playing games with friends.
