Shirley Lee Lane, 86, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 6:00 A.M. Sunday January 29, 2023, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston. She was born January 22, 1937, in Boswell, IN, the daughter of Roy and Cozetta (Wagoner) Fix. She married Ronnie Lane on June 16, 1957, at the First Christian Church in Hoopeston. He preceded her in death.  

She is survived by two daughters, Kristie Lane Gonzalez of Hoopeston, IL and Shawn Lane of Hoopeston, IL; two sons, Jeffrey (Lisa) Lane of Kankakee, IL and Tory (Janice) Lane of Pasadena, MD; one sister, Carolyn Fix Longest of Hoopeston, IL; one brother, George (Sheila) Fix of Rotonda West, FL; one sister-in-law, Dixie Fix of Watseka, IL; six grandchildren, Nick (Elizabeth) Gonazalez, Chanelle (Markus) Davis, Courtney (Adam) Traeger, Kali (CJ) Goodrum, Caleb Lane, Cody Lane, Garrett White, and Andrew Lane; thirteen great-grandchildren, Ashton and Layla Birch, Kyli and Remington Davis, Navarro Gonzalez, Kaedyn, Avery, and Grayson Goodrum, Austin Traeger, Ryker and Cora Lane, and Cameron and Avalynn Lane; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ginny Probasco and Joyce Williams; one brother, Steve Fix; and two brothers-in-law, Carl Longest and Leon Probasco. 

Shirley was a cook at Pla-Mor Lanes lunch counter and later at the Corner Café. She was also a cake decorator for many years. After retirement she enjoyed living in Florida watching the sunset and later moved home to be near family. She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Hoopeston and later attended the First Church of God. She was also a member of the Women’s Bowling Association and Little League Moms. Shirley enjoyed bowling and was inducted into the Hoopeston Bowling Hall of Fame in 2012. She also enjoyed attending her kids and grandkids sporting events and was very active in the youth baseball concession stand and doing other tasks. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed visiting with her friends at the coffee club at McDonald’s, Henning’s and later 112 Coffee Shoppe. The love of Shirley’s life was her kids and grandkids. 

A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Thursday February 2, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Susan Irene Perkins, 78, of Rossville, passed away at 9:42 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Heritage Health, in Hoopeston.

Susan was born on August 2, 1944, in Milford, Illinois, the daughter of Louis Earl and Madge Ellen (Jesse) Fanning.  She married Kenneth Harry Perkins on December 17, 1961, in Milford, Illinois.  He survives.

She is also survived by one sister- Millie Rakowski of Chicago, Illinois; cousin- Fred Fanning of Milford, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers- Bill and Gilbert Fanning, two sisters- Pearl Gilbert and Celeste Fanning.

Susan worked for several years at Gul Branson and CBS as an organ tester.  She was a member of Faith Church of Christ, in Danville.  She was a past member of the Hoopeston Hobby Club, where she helped start the flea market at the Sweetcorn Festival.  She enjoyed collecting Bakelite jewelry, military dog tags and antiques.

Vivian Jean Ferdinand, 90, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 11:45 A.M. Wednesday January 25, 2022, at her home. She was born February 22, 1932, in Wellington, IL, the daughter of John Oliver and Gladys Mary (Ray) Toney. She married Wendell Charles Ferdinand on December 28, 1952, at the Schwer Church in Milford, IL. He preceded her in death on November 6, 2012. 

She is survived by two daughters, Lyn M. Ferdinand of Mahomet, IL and Jo E. (Rocky) Doggett of Westville, IL; two sons, Larrie G. (Johanne) Ferdinand of San Antonio, TX and Jay A. Ferdinand of Hoopeston, IL; seven grandchildren, Nicole Smith, Sara Weaver, Michael Patrick, Justin Ferdinand, Fernando Vargas, Crystal Adams, and Vanessa Ferdinand; twelve great-grandchildren; and thirteen nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband, Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; one infant sister; one brother, John Toney, Jr.; and one sister-in-law, Jane Toney. 

Vivian and her husband, Wendell, owned and operated Ferdinand’s Radio and TV for many years. She also studied and received her realtors license, which was a short-term, part-time job. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hoopeston, where she volunteered for many church activities. She also served as a volunteer in the hospital gift shop and for Meals on Wheels. Vivian had a love for her family and enjoyed cooking. 

Visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:30 A.M. Monday January 30, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston. Sandra Winters, 75, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 1:46 P.M. Friday January 20, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. She was born November 10, 1947, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Charles and Myrtle “Laura” (Warner) Winters, Sr. They preceded her in death. 

She is survived by one son, Michael Winters of Hoopeston, IL; three brothers, Leroy (Sharon) Winters of Danville, IL, Raymond (Virginia) Winters of Danville, IL, and Jack (Barb) Winters of Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by three sisters, Myrtle Dilley, Beverly Mariage, and Charlotte Racz; and two brothers, Charles Winters, Jr. and Henry Winters. 

Sandra was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing bingo, going mushroom hunting, and playing with her dogs.

Charles R. “Bob” Crawford, 88, of Milford passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023 peacefully at his home surrounded by family.

Bob was born on July 28, 1934 in Watseka, the son of Ira Maxwell and Helen (Slife) Crawford. He married Linda Shoufler on November 7, 1987 in Milford and she survives.

Besides his wife, Linda Crawford of Milford, he is survived by one daughter, Diana (Dave) Wright of Milford; two sons, Jeff (Nancy) Crawford of Milford and Todd (Susan) Crawford of Milford; one step-son, Bopper (Stacey) Gillette of Stockland; one step-daughter, Donna (Randy) Hiltz of Milford; eight grandchildren, T.J Crawford (Jennifer) and Jade Crawford (Travis), Charlton Maxwell Crawford, Clover Dawn Crawford, Clarity Elaine Crawford and their mother, Angel Crawford, Jamie (Darren) Bakken and Jennifer Mowrey, and Jesse (Ryan) Covarrubias; five great-grandchildren, Ryli and Chloe Hoaks, Madelyn and Abigail Crawford, and Cecelia Bakken; and his dog, Minder.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marilyn Verkler and Barbara Schmidt; one son, Charles Crawford; and his dog, Mindie.

Bob was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of Milford Lions Club, Slow Boys Tractor Club, FFA Alumni, and served on the Milford School Board.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Knapp Funeral Home in Milford.

Daniel Lee “Booner” Allison, Jr., 64, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 12:25 P.M. Thursday January 19, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born May 20, 1958, in Danville, IL, the son of Daniel Lee Allison and Dorothy J. (Huckleby) Allison, Sr. His mother survives in Hoopeston. 

He is also survived by five sons, Daniel (Kristin) Allison III of Bourbonnais, IL, Tyler Allison of New Orleans, LA, Cole (Julie) Muench of St. Joseph, IL, Zack (Brittany) Muench of Jacksonville, NC, and Nate ( Allie) Allison of Hoopeston, IL; one sister, Kim (Randy) Tatro of Watseka, IL; six grandchildren, Issac, Eli, and Aylee Allison, Everleigh and Lennox Allison, and Zaelyn Muench; and several nieces. 

He was preceded in death by his father; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Martha Huckleby; his paternal grandparents, Elvis and Lois Allison; and several aunts and uncles.

David J. Pruitt, 72, of Milford, IL, passed away at 9:24 A.M. Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, IL. Arrangements are pending at Anderson Funeral Home in Hoopeston.

Letha M. "Granny" (Landsdown) Green McMains, 98, of Potomac, passed away at 2:05 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Autumn Fields, in Hoopeston, with two of her favorite people, Sondra and Chellsea, by her side.

Letha was born on October 9, 1924, in Danville, the daughter of Lowell and Letha Marie (Cronkhite) Landsdown.  She was previously married to Charles Edward Green.  She later married James Forrest McMains on December 20, 1960, in Danville.  He preceded her in death on May 29, 1970.

She is survived by one daughter- Sondra (Phil) Duncan of Potomac; five grandchildren- Rickie (Angie) Cade, Shawn (Jill) Cade, Cinnamyn (Terry) Keith, Shane (Amy) Cade and Ryan (Norma) Cade; eleven great-grandchildren- Chellsea, Courtney, Emily, Meagan, Chase, Madison, RaeAnn, Dawson, Lucas, Kamerin and Richard; nineteen great-great grandchildren and one more on the way; three special nieces- Nancy Cunningham, Ann Stevens and Wanda Ellis; and three nephews- Paul, Mark and Phil Haas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one brother-Lester Landsdown, twin sister- Lois Haas, two nephews- Kenneth Landsdown and Larry Haas and all of her dear friends who have already passed that she was ready and looking forward to seeing again.

Letha graduated from Rossville High School, in 1942 and later graduated from Lakeview College of Nursing, in 1945, barely missing being sent off to WWII.  She has worked as a registered nurse since 1945.  She worked as a charge nurse at Lakeview Hospital and later started Hedrecka Nursing Home, in Rossville, in 1953, where she operated that for 22 years.  She later worked in private home health care up until she was in her 80's.  Letha grew up on a farm outside of Rossville and helped her dad and brother farm.  She loved being outdoors and loved helping Phil and Sondra move equipment on the farm during harvest.  She also enjoyed gardening.  When Letha moved to Potomac, she enjoyed playing the card game Hand and Foot with Betty, Caroline and June.  She loved her cat "Pretty" and when she was living in Autumn Fields her cat was the delight for everyone there.  She enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows Murder She Wrote, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune.  Letha also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to say "Thank You' to the ones who took care of Letha during her almost 7 years at Autumn Fields.  They would also like to Thank Jamee Sprague and co-workers at Gibson Health, in Hoopeston, Iroquois Memorial Hospice, Debbie, Linda, Angie and all of the special friends who stopped by to see her at the apartment over the years.

Larry Bury, 81, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 7:19 P.M. Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, IL.  He was born August 20, 1941, the son of Donald R. and Waneta (Truby) Bury.  He married Chris Reed on July 3, 1999, in Hoopeston. She survives in Hoopeston, IL. 

Along with his wife, Chris, Larry is survived by his four children, Debbie (John) Hubbard of Hazelton, IN, Doug (Gina) Bury of Delavan, IL, Todd (Sandy) Bury of Owensville, IN, and Traci (Jon) Miller of Anderson, IN; two step-daughters, Cassie (Jeff) Tetzloff of Maricopa, AZ and Jackie Rife of Hoopeston, IL; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and three special step-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Mike. 

Larry served in the United States Marine Corps.  Along with farming, he worked at Stokley’s Canning Factory and in sales. He was a member of the Rossville Church of Christ. He was also a member of the North Fork Conservation Club, AMVETS, the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384, and the Hoopeston VFW where he served as past Commander.  Larry enjoyed fishing, woodworking, hunting, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

Grace Farney, 88, of Rankin, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.  A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 2-6pm, at Cox-Knapp Funeral Home in Rankin.  Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 10am, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Cissna Park, with additional visitation one hour prior.

Paul D. Ziemnisky Sr., 75, of Cheneyville, IL, passed away at 2:47 P.M. Tuesday January 10, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born April 4, 1947, in Westerly, RI, the son of Anthony W.  and Mella M. (Boron) Ziemnisky. He married Patti J. Ervin on October 27, 1995, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hoopeston. She survives. 

He is also survived by two sons, Paul (Cindy) Ziemnisky, Jr. of Libertyville, IL, and Chris (Kendra) Ziemnisky of Danville, IL; one sister, Ann (Jeff) McCrave; twin brother, Peter Ziemnisky of Providence, RI; seven grandchildren, Tayler, Christian, Addyson, Alyza, Kelsey, Jenna, and Cara; two great grandchildren, Keatyn and Audrielle; one niece, Jessica Goins; and one nephew, Jason Blackburn. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Anthony. 

Paul served in the United States Air Force for six years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Service Star and the Presidential Unit Citation. He was a proud member of the VFW and the American Legion.  

After the war, he joined the post office where he worked his way up from carrier to postmaster, ultimately spending 37 years. In his last few years, he was asked to “clean-up” troubled post offices across the state. He took pride in ensuring people received their mail on time. 

Paul was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hoopeston. He was passionate about his gardening, RV travel trips, Chicago Cubs baseball, and his three cats (Blackie, Princess, and Ninja). He also enjoyed collecting stamps but most importantly, seeing and hearing about his grandchildren’s ventures.  

A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Monday January 16, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home, with Father Ignatius Mulenda officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Carolyn Anease Cessna, 82, of Potomac, passed away at 10:25 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023, at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center, in Urbana.

Carolyn was born on April 10, 1940, in Florence, Alabama, the daughter of Gip Spencer and Eula Mae (Simpson) Thigpen.  She married Thomas Elder in 1957 and he preceded her in death in 1960.  She later married David Cessna on October 19, 1962, in Albany, Georgia.  He survives.

She is also survived by five sons- Ricky Elder of Potomac, Cleatus Elder of Potomac, Randy (Shelly) Cessna of Potomac, Keith Cessna of Potomac and Chris (Heidi) Cessna of San Diego, California; twelve grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren with another on the way; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Thomas Elder, step-father- Everett Proffitt, step-mother- Edna “Dink” Thigpen, two brothers- Robert “Bobby” and Alton Thigpen and sister-in-law/best friend- Eloise Thigpen.

She attended TM Rogers High School.  She was a past member of Hope United Church of Christ.  She worked for the Potomac Post Office and in home health care for several years.  She enjoyed flowers, gardening, canning and spending time with her children and grandchildren.  The Cessna home was always the drop in house for coffee, playing cards or just to visit.  Their door was always open to everyone.

Daryl Joseph Gildersleeve, of Potomac, IL, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023.

Daryl was born November 25, 1952. He was the son of Oral and Elizabeth {Morris} Gildersleeve.

He graduated from Potomac High School.  Daryl spent most of his time in Tulsa, Ok working for his brother Dean in his landscaping business. He often spoke with fondness about his time there.  He was an avid pool player, winning many tournament trophies even though he played with the handicap of having only one eye.  He also enjoyed fishing, spending most of his free time on the Oklahoma lakes near Tulsa.  Daryl returned to Potomac and worked for his brother Denis on his construction company until  he retired.  Daryl often talked about his pride and joy which were his dogs. First there were Kitty Hawk and Geisha. More recently he enjoyed Brutus. They kept each other company for years.

Daryl was loved and survived by his sister Pamela Kay Owens {Gildersleeve} of Potomac, IL. His brothers Stan {Donna} Gildersleeve of Rockville, In. Denis {Jean} Gildersleeve of Armstrong, IL. One son, Caleb as well as grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A casual service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac. Joan Helen Carpenter, 85, of Armstrong, passed away at 1:07 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023, surrounded by her family, at Country Health Care and Rehab, in Gifford.

Joan was born on July 11, 1937, in Penfield, Illinois, the daughter of Guy and Ellen (Blackwell) Curtis.  She married Robert Garfield Carpenter on June 15, 1954.  He preceded her in death on September 29, 2009. 

She is survived by her daughter- Tari Adwell of Rossville; three grandchildren- Tabitha (Jerome Allison) Powell of Rossville, Jennifer (Chris) Danner of Hoopeston and Nicholas Applegate of Champaign; three step-grandchildren- Tommy (Carrie) Adwell, Scott (Kristee) Adwell and Jimmy Adwell all of New Jersey;  four great-grandchildren- Mason Tuggle, Angel (Kiyre Murphy) Applegate, Skylar Danner and Olivia Danner; three step-great grandchildren- Tyler Adwell, Ava Adwell and Dylan Adwell; one great-great grandson- Leland James Murphy; one sister-in-law- Sandy Curtis of Westville; special extended family- Tom (Carolyn) Powell of Rantoul and Cathy Phegley of Rossville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Jim Carpenter, daughter- Dixie Lee, son-in-law- Tom Adwell, daughter-in-law- Donna Carpenter, nine brothers- Guy, Wesley, Ellis, Leland, Joseph, Patrick, John, Fred and Donald Curtis, four sisters- Sara Ray, Marjorie Roberson, Mary Louise Curtis and Joan’s twin sister- Joyce Hayn.

Joan worked for several years at Creative Products and later at Full Fill Industries, until her retirement.  She also worked as a bookkeeper for Carpenter’s Fur.  She was a previous member of the Potomac Women’s Club.  Joan loved playing softball and played for several area teams.  Joan started playing Women’s and Coed softball in the 70’s and her position was catcher.  She continued playing softball into her 70’s.  She also enjoyed walking, working in the yard and taking care of her pets.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and looked forward to her daily phone chats with her granddaughter Tabitha.    

A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2023, at Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac, with Dean Abbott officiating.  Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.  She will be laid to rest following the service at Partlow Cemetery, in Armstrong.  Memorials may be made in Joan’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Rick Nolin, 75, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 9:15 P.M. Tuesday January 3, 2023, at The Waters of Covington in Covington, IN. He was born August 26, 1947, in Danville, IL, the son of Byron and Betty

(Hrouda) Nolin.  

He is survived by one sister, Debbie (Bob) Hamilton of Hoopeston, IL and two nephews, Gavin and Brandon Hamilton. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and both sets of grandparents.  

Rick graduated from Hoopeston High School in 1965. He later attended DACC and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in business from Illinois State University. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1968-1970. Rick worked at NACCO in Danville, until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Hubbard Trail Men’s Golf League. The highlight of his golfing career was hitting two hole-in-ones. He enjoyed visiting with friends at Henning’s Restaurant and later Fast Lanes. Even through his illness, Rick took everything in stride. 

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday January 7, 2023, at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, with Pastor Gary Milton officiating. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Rick’s honor to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or to the donor’s choice.

Edward “Ed” James Knight, 76, of Catlin, passed away at 8:13 P.M. Thursday, December 29, 2022, at his home.

Ed was born on July 11, 1946, in Danville, the son of Ralph and Gwendolyn (Sherrill) Knight.  He married Marol Lee Maxwell.

He is survived by his wife-Marol Lee Knight; son- Michael (Jolene) Duckett of St. Joseph; three grandchildren- Kassidy (Jenna) Duckett of Champaign, Chloe Duckett of St. Joseph and Kylie Duckett of St. Joseph; two brothers- Dr. John L. (Esperanza) Knight of San Angelo, Texas and Kenneth (Jeanette) Knight of Potomac; three sisters- Loretta (Joe) Cox of Danville, Mary “Betsy” DePratt of Florida and Barbara (Dale) Olmstead of Buda, Texas; two sisters-in-law- Kathy Knight of Danville and Flora Belle Knight of Danville; several nieces and nephews; and many very close special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- Richard Knight and William Knight, brother-in-law- William DePratt and nephew- Ricky Earl.

Ed graduated from Bismarck High School, in 1964 and later graduated from DACC, with his Associates Degree, in business.  In his younger years, he was very involved in flat track motorcycle racing and was known as “Fast Eddie”.  He was a master gardener, enjoyed genealogy, and watching Illini basketball.  Ed also enjoyed spending time with his fur baby-Harley.  He also enjoyed spending time at family dinners at the Kenneth Knight Family farm, in Potomac.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7^th, 2023, at Blurton Funeral Home.
