Hoopeston Police Department Report September 26, 2017

Details: While on a routine traffic stop male subject failed to provide proof of insurance. He was cited with the above and released with a court date.

Details: School administration staff contacted HPD reference to a social media threat.  Staff evacuated the remaining athletics and remaining staff from the building and police conducted a search and found no viable threat to the grounds, by person or other means.

Unit 2: 2013 Chevy Truck driven by Cody A Alterman (M) (34) of Champaign
Details: At the above time HPD was summoned to the intersection reference to a two vehicle collision.  Unit 1 had stopped for the stop sign but did not see unit 2 approaching from South.  Unit 1 did pull out to go south and was stuck by Unit 2.   Unit 1 was cited for failure to reduce to avoid an accident.  Both insured and both had to be towed from the scene.

Arrested: Joshua Pierce (28) of Hoopeston
Details: While driving his vehicle past complainant, subject brandished 
a handgun.  He was later located with the handgun in his possession
and taken into custody.  He was processed and later transported to 
PSB to see a judge.

Arrested: Torrey Robinson (50) Hoopeston male
Details: HPD officers were called to the above address in reference to a domestic
situation.  After an investigation, Mr. Robinson was arrested and taken to
HPD.  He was processed and later transported to the PSB in Danville to
await arraignment.

Arrested: Roy Jones (43) Hoopeston male
Details: HPD officers were called to the above location in reference to a 
battery complaint.  Mr. Jones had already left the area, but was later
located and arrested for city ordinance violation of battery.  He was
taken to HPD, processed and later released with a city ticket and court
date.

Details: Unit 1 was headed back into the parking lot of the Park Shop when he cut to short and clipped a tree stump and got hung up on.    No Injuries reported.

Arrested: John D Cornelius (20) of Loda
Details: Officer performed a routine traffic stop on vehicle driven by the
above subject.  Upon speaking to subject, officer could smell
a strong odor of cannabis.. After searching the vehicle officer
found the cannabis and placed subject under arrest.  He was 
transported to HPD where he was released with an NTA in
Hoopeston City Court

Location: 300 blk Front St
Arrested: Belinda Solis (34) Hoopeston female
Details: HPD checked out with Ms. Solis while she was walking in the 300 blk of
Front St.  A computer check revealed that subject had an outstanding 
Vermilion County warrant.  Before being arrested and put into the patrol 
car, subject was searched and illegal substances were found on her.  She was
taken to HPD, processed and later transported to the PSB to await arraignment.

Details: Officer performed a routine traffic stop on vehicle driven by the above subject.  A computer check revealed Ms. Edwards to have a suspended drivers license.  She was arrested, taken to HPD, processed and released on a notice to appear with a court date.

Complainant:  Parent of 13 year old juvenile
Arrested:    Raul Acosta (29) Hoopeston male
Details:    At the above time, parent and juvenile came into HPD to report the incident.
   After an investigation, Mr. Acosta was arrested and charged with Aggravated
   Criminal Sexual Abuse.  He was processed and later transported to the Public
   Safety Building in Danville to await arraignment.

Details: Unit 1 struck the rear of Unit 2 while it was stopped in traffic.
Driver of Unit 2 reported injuries to her back as a result of the crash.

Further, a computer check on driver of Unit 2 revealed her license
to be suspended.   She was issued a citation.

Details: While on patrol, HPD officers located a vehicle in which stolen license plates
where on.  A computer check revealed that Mr. Miles did not have a valid driver’s
license.  Subject was arrested and taken to HPD.  He was processed and later
transported to the PSB in Danville to await arraignment.

Details: An LG phone was left at Casey’s during the above hours.  Owner can identify

Details: On the date of arrest, the suspect came to HPD to make a report on an unrelated incident.  The arrestee was then interviewed in-connection to this complaint.  The arrestee was therefore charged with the offense and transported to PSB Danville to be arraigned.

Details: At the above time, Police was summoned to the area to report of 2 females arguing and fighting in the yard.  Suspect was gone upon arrival and Victim was able to provide information for the case to be followed up on.

Details: At the above time complainant came to HPD and reported that several items were stolen from the above location where he had them stored.   He did not give anyone permission to dispose or take the items from that location.   
 
Vehicle Accident- Hit and Run H17-3495

Unit #1: 2006 Dodge 4-Door driven by Apolinar Solis (27)(M) of Hoopeston (Arrested)
Unit #2: 2000 Oldsmobile 4-Door (parked and unoccupied) owned by Daniel Reyes of
Hoopeston
Details: Witnesses observed driver of Unit #1 get into his vehicle and back into a down
spout causing damage.  Witnesses also observed Unit #1 strike Unit #2, which
was parked and unoccupied.  Unit #1 left the scene of the accident.  HPD officers
located subject and arrested him on the following tickets:

Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid and Accident
Failure to give information after striking vehicle or other property
Leaving Scene of Accident-Vehicle Damage
Operating Uninsured Vehicle
After being processed, Mr. Solis was released with traffic citations and traffic 
court date. Unit #2 was insured.

Arrested: Craig Blankenship (37) male from Bloomington, IN
Details: Mr. Blankenship was arrested after becoming agitated with HPD officers when 
they were trying to talk with him.  After being warned, subject was arrested for
disobeying police.  He was taken to HPD, processed and later released with a 
city citation and city court date.
 
Possession of Cannabis, Purchase/Acceptance of Alcohol by Minor (city citations) H17-3518

Location: 700 blk W Washington
Arrested: 16 year old Hoopeston juvenile
Details: HPD officers checked out with juvenile after it appeared that he was stumbling
while walking.  Subject was holding an alcoholic beverage and told the officer 
that he had cannabis in his pocket.  Subject was arrested and taken to HPD.  He 
was processed, given city citations and court date, and was later released to a parent.

Details:    Complainant contacted HPD in reference to his car getting broken into
   and property stolen.  After an investigation, officers located the juvenile.
   He was arrested, taken to HPD and processed.  He was later transported to
   the Juvenile Detention Center in Danville to await arraignment.

Complainant: 33 year old Hoopeston Woman 
Arrestee: Gibson, Barbara (F)(32) of Hoopeston 
Details: HPD was called to the above location for a report of 2 women fighting outside in the yard. Upon arrival officers met with the arrestee and then was pointed to the complainant. Officers took a complaint from the victim who wished to press charges against the arrestee.  Subject was released with a NTA to appear in court.

Several items were found at McFerren Park over the holiday weekend.  If you have lost

Hoopeston Police Department Report August 29-September 4

Wanted on Warrant (Cook County) H17-3303 V17-8460
Time: 2:11am
Location: 400 block of E. Honeywell
Arrestee: George Eleopoulos (51) of Hoopeston 
Details: Officers were called to the above in reference to a domestic disturbance.
A computer check revealed Mr. Eleopoulos had an active warrant out of Cook County. He was taken to HPD, processed, and later transported to the PSB to await extradition.  
 
Traffic Accident H17-3312

Location: 100 Blk E. Orange
Unit #1: 2003 Pontiac 4D driven by Theresa Saldana (27) of Hoopeston
Unit #2: 2010 Chevrolet 4D driven by Gretchen Warren (56) of Georgetown
Details: Both units were traveling westbound in the 100 block of E. Orange when 
Unit #1 struck the rear end of Unit #2. There were no injuries, no citations, 
and both units were insured.

Details: HPD responded to the area on the complaint that someone was driving recklessly in the area. The above subject was issued citations for the above and given a court date.

Details: While on a routine traffic stop a computer check revealed that 
Mr. O Neal did not have a valid license. He was charged with the above, transported to HPD, processed and later released with a court date.

Unit 1: 2016 Volvo driven by Richard Poepsel of Peoria 
Property: Guide Wire belonging to Frontier Communications
Details: at the above time, driver of unit 1 reported that he struck a guide wire belonging to Frontier Communications, pulling it out of the ground.   Minor damage to driver’s company owned Semi Tractor.    Unit is insured and no Injuries reported.

Arrestee: Charles Gawthorp lll (34) of Hoopeston
Details: Officers were called to the above on the report of a domestic disturbance in progress. Mr. Gawthorp was charged with the above, taken to HPD where he was processed and later transported to the PSB to await arraignment.

Details: HPD officers were called to McFerren Park for a juvenile with an 
outstanding Vermilion County warrant.  Subject was taken to HPD, processed and later transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in 
Danville.

Location: Drainage District Ditch 1000 block W Orange Street 
Details: Drainage district ditch was on fire under the bridge that Orange Street crossed over the water way.   HFD & HPD responded to the scene to put the fire out.   HPD provided traffic control for the scene

Details: While on a routine traffic stop a computer check revealed that Carswell had a suspended license. Carswell was charged with the above, taken to HPD where she was processed and later released with a court date.

Details: Subject was arrested on an outstanding Vermilion County Warrant. Hensley was taken to HPD, processed and later transported to the PSB.
 
Hit and Run Accident H17-3370

Location: 701 E Orange St, Carle Hospital
Unit #1: Unknown
Unit #2: 2005 Chevrolet Van (parked and unoccupied) owned by Rachel Sandstedt
Details: Unit #2 was parked in a parking spot at Carle ER when an unknown 
vehicle struck hers and drove away.  Unit #2 is insured.  An investigation continues.
 
Traffic Accident (Minor PI) H17-3409

Location: Intersection State Route 1 & State Route 9
Unit 1: 2003 Chevy driven by (M) (33) Vicente Perez-Diaz of Chicago IL
Unit 2: 1997 Cadillac driven by (M) (83) David E Cessna of Potomac IL
Details: HPD and Arrow Ambulance was dispatched to an accident with minor injuries.
Unit 1 struck Unit 2 from behind causing injury to the driver of Unit 2.  Driver of Unit 1 was issued citations. Cash bond posted for citations. Unit 2 had to be towed by Knuth’s at owner’s request.  Unit 1 was towed to Paul’s for PNT violation.

Location: 500 block N 8th Avenue Hoopeston 
Complainant: 17 year old Hoopeston male 
Arrestee: Grills, Ryann M (F) (36) of Hoopeston 
Details: At the above time and date, HPD responded to a report of Domestic Battery call and all parties were on the scene.  After officer arrived on the scene, de-escalated the situation. 
The arrestee was taken into custody transported to HPD processed and then transferred to Vermilion County Jail to await bond hearing before a judge.  
 
Possession of Cannabis, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia     H17-3436
Date & Time: September 4, 2017   6pm
Location: McFerren Park
Arrested: 15 year old Hoopeston Juvenile
Arrested: 16 year old Hoopeston Juvenile
Details: Both subjects were observed smoking in the park. Both subjects
were found to be under 18 years old.  Search of their persons
revealed one of the juveniles to be in possession of a glass pipe
used to smoke marijuana.  Other juvenile had in his possession
a container containing substance which tested positive for 
marijuana.  Both juveniles were transported to HPD where they
were released to their parents along with an NTA in Hoopeston
City Court.
 
Trespassing (City Ordinance) H17-3442

Location: 400 N. Ninth Ave
Complainant: 67 year old Hoopeston male
Arrested: 16 year old Hoopeston juvenile
Details: HPD officers responded to the above address and arrested juvenile
for city ordinance violation of Trespassing after being warned.  Subject was taken to HPD, processed and released to a parent with city ticket and court date.
