Hoopeston Public Library’s Pumpkin Decorating Contest is back for 2021, but this time it will be virtual!
HPL has sponsored the popular fall event since 2017, with dozens of pumpkins grown and donated by Mel and Terri Hambleton. Covid-19 restrictions put it on hold in 2020, but the contest is back this year with a twist. Entries will NOT be returned to the library, but photos of the pumpkins will be submitted by email for judging.
Free pumpkins can be “checked out” at the library (lower level) beginning Monday, Oct. 4, while supplies last. Participants can then decorate their pumpkins, take a picture and send it back by email no later than October 18. Detailed instructions for emailing will be provided when pumpkins are checked out. Winners will be announced and contacted the week of Oct. 25.
As in the past, there will be five categories: ages 5-7, 8-11, 12-15, 16-adult, and family/group. First place winners will be selected in each category and each will receive a $10 gift certificate from a local restaurant. All photos received will be posted on the HPL Facebook page, published in the November HPL newsletter, and on display at the library.
Updated Case Numbers: 60 new cases and 37 were released. Of the 60 new cases, 0 were fully vaccinated. We had zero breakthrough cases (those who were vaccinated and were hospitalized or died) and zero reinfection.

On September 24, 2021, Mathew Hofer, formerly of Hoopeston, Illinois, was sentenced today to six (6) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of Robbery, a Class 2 Felony, the sentence shall be followed by one (l) year of Mandatory Supervised Release (i.e., Parole).
Circuit Judge Charles Hall entered the sentence that was agreed to by the State's Attorney's Office and the defense. During the plea, the Court heard evidence establishing that on July 3, 2021 at around 1:25 p.m. the defendant walked into the 112 Wine and Coffee Shop in Hoopeston and ordered an employee to give him all the money. Defendant pretended during the Robbery that he was armed with a firearm. Defendant took cash and fled and was apprehended shortly after the robbery.
State's Attorney Lacy thanked the Hoopeston Police Department for their work in this case.

The Iroquois County Public Health Department (ICPHD) now has flu vaccine available. “The CDC and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) are strongly advising vaccinations for everyone 6 months of age or older,” said Jane Newell, RN, BSN, Director of Clinical Nursing Services for ICPHD.
Adult flu vaccine is now available in our office by appointment or walk-in for individuals over the age of 18, Monday-Friday; 9 AM- 3:30 PM. Flu vaccine is also available for children 6 months and older by appointment. Please note that individuals under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present at the time of vaccination. A physician’s order is required prior to giving a vaccination to a pregnant or breastfeeding woman.

Dee Ann Schippert, RN, BSN, Public Health Administrator said there is still a small percentage of the population that believes you can get the flu from the flu shot. “There is no live virus in the flu vaccines we provide. It is impossible to‘get the flu’ from the vaccine. The vaccines we utilize today are approved by the Food and Drug Administration and are very safe. It takes up to 2 weeks for protection to develop after the shot and there is the rare occasion when a person willbecome ill during that period of time. The illness is not from the flu vaccine. The person either had contracted the flu
virus prior to achieving immunity or is suffering from another illness having same or similar symptoms as the flu.” Mrs. Schippert also noted that the flu vaccine that will be administered at public clinics is a quadrivalent vaccine which offers protection against four different strains of flu; is preservative free, containing no Thimerosal or Mercury; and will be administered using syringes that are latex free.
The cost for the quadrivalent vaccine is $35 per dose. In addition to the quadrivalent flu vaccine, the Health Department will also be offering the high dose flu vaccine. It will cost $70 per dose. If you have coverage for the flu vaccine through
Medicare or one of the following listed insurance companies, the Iroquois County Public Health Department can bill them directly. ICPHD can currently bill Aetna, BlueCross/Blue Shield of IL PPO, Health Alliance, HealthLink PPO, HealthLink HMO, Cigna and United Healthcare. A receipt will be provided to enable those with other insurance coverage to obtain reimbursement.

Regional Hospital Information
One of our Region’s Hospital’s EDs was at Peak Census as of this morning. We have about 27 ADULT ICU beds open in Region 6 which includes 15 hospitals and 1 VA (Region 6 covers 21 counties). Status for our region as of this morning was that we have about 16 COVID patients in the ICU, 105 in non-ICU status, and 7 on ventilators (these numbers do not include PUIs). There were about 2 patients waiting in EDs for beds to be admitted. There were 5 interfacility transfers, which means the number of patients transferred the previous calendar day (midnight to 11:59 pm) from a hospital emergency department or a hospital inpatient area out to other facilities (whether in the same health system or another) due to lack of capacity. Most of our hospitalizations are still with our unvaccinated population. Five patients in our regional hospitals lost their lives since yesterday. We also have 2 patients under the age of 18 hospitalized in non-ICU beds with COVID19 in our region.

The Hoopeston Police Commission has hired Thomas E. Kirby of Ridgefarm IL. as a fulltime probationary police officer. Officer Kirby is certified and witl begin his tour of duty with the Hoopeston Police Department on 10-11-2021.
The Hoopeston Police Commission has promoted Marvin Dobkins to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Dobkins began his distinguished career with the Hoopeston Police Department in November of 1985 as an Aux. Officer. He joined the force as a sworn officer in May of 2018 after retiring from the IL. Department of Corrections.

A little bit of light is that we are seeing. As a region, our positivity rate has fallen steadily over the last week, and we have seen 7 days of patient decreases in a row. We still have 11 consecutive days under our 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, but today’s numbers showed an increase in availability. Forecasting shows that cases should continue to go down for the next month, but that is only a forecast and depends on how our community chooses to move forward.

Updated Case Numbers: 50 new cases and 51 were released. Of the 50 new cases, 0 were fully vaccinated. We had zero breakthrough cases (those who were vaccinated and were hospitalized or died) and zero reinfection.
13 cases under the age of 20; 26 cases between the ages of 20 – 49; 11 cases over the age of 50.
Our last 2 reports have seen a reduction in cases under the age of 20. I hope this is a trend we will continue to see.
In the last 30 days, 86% of our new cases have been aged 60 or under and about 33% of our deaths have been under the age of 60.
We unfortunately had 2 additional deaths. Two gentlemen in their 50s and their 70s. Our thoughts go out to their families. This brings our total to 184 deaths.
Due to our HIGH transmission status, it is recommended that everyone, despite vaccination, should wear a mask when indoors. Local transmission is at 479.16 new cases per 100,000 over the last 7 days. Regional Hospital Information
One of our Region’s Hospital’s EDs was at Peak Census as of this morning. We have about 14 ADULT ICU beds open in Region 6 which includes 15 hospitals and 1 VA (Region 6 covers 21 counties). Status for our region as of this morning was that we have about 17 COVID patients in the ICU, 117 in non-ICU status, and 11 on ventilators (these numbers do not include PUIs). There were about 5 patients waiting in EDs for beds to be admitted. There were 9 interfacility transfers, which means the number of patients transferred the previous calendar day (midnight to 11:59 pm) from a hospital emergency department or a hospital inpatient area out to other facilities (whether in the same health system or another) due to lack of capacity. Most of our hospitalizations are still with our unvaccinated population. One patient in our regional hospitals lost their lives since yesterday.
Here is a breakdown of all the places I am aware of that does testing. If you are having to get tested weekly due to not being vaccinated and are having difficulty getting tested, my recommendation is to get vaccinated. We are trying to get more testing options here in the county. Updated Case Numbers (includes numbers from Saturday – today): 150 new cases and 181 were released. Of the 150 new cases, 6 were fully vaccinated. We had zero breakthrough cases (those who were vaccinated and were hospitalized or died) and zero reinfection.
51 cases under the age of 20; 54 cases between the ages of 20 – 49; 45 cases over the age of 50.
This was the first time our under 20 population was not our highest group of new cases in awhile. 39 of the 51 were in Grade School Levels (age 5) and up. It is critical that we continue to use precautions in our schools.
We unfortunately had 4 additional deaths. A gentlewoman in her 30s, a gentlewoman in her 50s, and two gentlemen in their 60s. Our thoughts go out to their families. This brings our total to 182 deaths.

The Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden has identified the victims of a shooting on East Main Street in Danville on early Saturday morning, 09/18/2021, as 20-year-old Leslie E. Fisher, Jr. and 21-year-old Charles L. Jones, Jr. both of Danville.
Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden stated that both victims’ families have been notified. Autopsies are scheduled for today. The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Office and the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate. If anyone has information about this or other crimes, they are encouraged to call the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS.
National Farm Safety and Health Week runs September 19-25. This year’s theme is ‘Farm Safety Yields Real Results.’
Harvest season can be particularly dangerous for farmers with long hours and stress of weather delays, equipment breakdowns or high operating costs, and National Farm Safety and Health Week reinforces the importance of working together to ensure farmers make it home safely to their families at night.
The 2019 data for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that the agricultural sector is still the most dangerous in America with 573 fatalities, or an equivalent of 23.1 deaths per 100,000 workers. Fall harvest time can be one of the busiest and most dangerous seasons of the year for the agriculture industry. For this reason, the third week of September has been recognized as National Farm Safety and Health Week.
“Farmers are notorious for their work ethic and determination, both qualities that also can be a detriment when it comes to safety,” said Kerry Wienke, executive director with Vermilion County Farm Bureau. “While farm safety is top of mind every week for farmers, their families and their employees, National Farm Safety and Health Week is an opportunity to spotlight safety reminders that keep those both inside and outside the agriculture industry aware and mindful during the busy harvest season.”

Simple Road Safety Steps for Farmers:
Keep SMV signs, lights, and the body of farm vehicles clean. Dirt or debris can cover these safety features which lowers equipment visibility. Also, depositing anything on the road that obstructs traffic is illegal and dangerous.
Travel in farm vehicles at low traffic times when possible. Roads are typically busiest on weekdays when people are traveling to and from work.
Continue to be observant. As always, be aware and attentive when driving. Distracted driving is just as dangerous in farm vehicles as it is in regular vehicles.
Simple Road Safety Steps for Other Drivers:
Find the lights on farm vehicles. Farm vehicles are required to have amber and red rear lights. The amber lights should be visible to the front and rear. They should flash as a warning to other motorists.
Slow down as soon as you see a farm vehicle and the orange SMV emblem. Most farm equipment only travels 15 to 20 miles per hour, so it is crucial to slow down before it is too late.
Be cognizant of the time of year. Harvest season typically runs from September through November. Drivers should expect to see farm vehicles on the road during this time.
We are reporting 98 new cases (three residents in their 80s, seven in their 70s, five in their 60s, ten in their 50s, eleven in their 40s, eighteen in their 30s, twenty-two in their 20s, five teens, eleven grade-school-aged children, and two toddlers), and 43 released, which brings us to a total of 12,355 positive cases.
We are saddened to report another COVID-related death -- a woman in her 40s. Our sympathies go out to her family and friends. We have lost a total of 178 Vermilion County residents to COVID-related deaths since this pandemic began.

A computer check showed Mr. Stevens to a Warrant out of Vermilion County. Mr. Stevens was transported to HPD where he was processed then transported to the Public Safety Building.

Ms. Gray was transported to HPD and was processed and later transported to Iroquois County.

Traffic Accident H21-4504 Time: 10:17am Location: S 3rd St/E Washington St Unit 1: 2016 Ford Focus driven by Olivia O’dell(21)(F)of Champaign Unit 2: 2008 Chrysler Sebring driven by Terry Greeson(64)(M)of Hoopeston Details: Unit 2 was traveling westbound on E Washington St. approaching the intersection of s 3rd st. Penn for a hit and run accident report. The owner of Unit #2 advised that at an unknown time and location, his vehicle was damaged. An investigation continues.

There were a couple of hospitals who had not updated their information by the time I retrieved their data.
Please remember it isn’t the number of actual beds available that is the problem, it is the number of available staff to provide care for those beds. When you don’t have enough staff, you don’t have open beds.
As community leaders, I am asking you to encourage more in our community to be open to vaccinations, masking, and other prevention mitigations as our hospitals need help! These are the current tools we have for prevention. Our healthcare workers are exhausted and there aren’t enough of them.
Reminders
We continue to get calls from community members who have been given misinformation about testing, quarantine and isolation. If a person has been exposed to a positive case, their “quarantine clock” begins at LAST exposure, which would be day 0. They will need to be out either at 7, 10, or 14 days depending on the options they qualify for. If they are in a household with a person who has tested positive and cannot properly isolate from that person, they do NOT begin quarantine until the person who tested positive ends their isolation. Vermilion County Case Counts (as of 9/10)
Updated Case Numbers: 42 new cases and 94 were released. Of the 42 new cases, NONE were vaccinated. We had no breakthrough cases (those who were vaccinated and hospitalized or died) and no reinfections.
22 cases under the age of 20; 14 cases between the ages of 20 – 49; 6 cases over the age of 50.
Our under 20 population is still our highest group of new cases right now. About 52% of the numbers today were of those under the age of 20. 15 of the 22 were in Grade School Levels (age 5) and up. It is critical that we continue to use precautions in our schools.
Unfortunately, we again had 1 additional death, a gentlewoman in her 70s. This brings our total to 172. Our hearts go out to her family. Since September 3rd, we have reported a total of 9 deaths related to COVID19.

Regional Hospital Information
Four of our Region’s Hospital’s EDs were at Peak Census as of this morning. We have about 9 ADULT ICU beds open in Region 6 which includes 15 hospitals and 1 VA (Region 6 covers 21 counties). Status for our region as of this morning was that we have about 34 COVID patients in the ICU, 160 in non-ICU status, and 22 on ventilators (these numbers do not include PUIs). There were about 13 patients waiting in EDs for beds to be admitted. There were also 2 interfacility transfers, which means the number of patients transferred the previous calendar day (midnight to 11:59 pm) from a hospital emergency department or a hospital inpatient area out to other facilities (whether in the same health system or another) due to lack of capacity. Most of our hospitalizations are still with our unvaccinated population. 7 patients in our regional hospitals lost their lives since yesterday.
Please remember it isn’t the number of actual beds available that is the problem, it is the number of available staff to provide care for those beds. When you don’t have enough staff, you don’t have open beds.
As community leaders, I am asking you to encourage more in our community to be open to vaccinations, masking, and other prevention mitigations as our hospitals need help! These are the current tools we have for prevention. Our healthcare workers are exhausted and there aren’t enough of them.
Warrant Arrest(VC 2020CF103) H21-4469 2021-7967 Time: 3:37PM Location: 700 block of S 3Rd Ave Arrested: Lacy D Simpson(33)(F)of Hoopeston Details: Officers were called out to the above location. Ms. Simpson was located and a computer search showed her to have an active warrant through Vermilion County. Ms. Simpson was arrested and transported to HPD for processing and later Transported by County Deputy to PSB.
Warrant Arrest(Iroquois Co 21CF51) H21-4476 Time: 6:47PM Location 400 blk of E Honeywell Ave Arrested: Bradley S David(34)(M)of Hoopeston Details: Officers were out with Mr. David and a computer search showed him to have an active warrant through Iroquois County. Mr. David was arrested and transported to HPD for processing and later transported to Iroquois County Jail by an Iroquois County Deputy.

The majority of our hospitalizations are still with our unvaccinated population.
Please remember it isn’t the number of actual beds available that is the problem, it is the number of available staff to provide care for those beds.
Our hospital staff are feeling the strain and it is up to this community to keep them afloat. I cannot say this enough!
Illinois State Police (ISP) District 10 Commander, Acting Captain Ryan Starrick, announces the results of Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols (OREP) held in Vermilion County during September. These OREPs provided extra patrol coverage for the ISP so officers could focus on saving lives by making sure all vehicle occupants were buckled up. Violations Enforcement Activity Safety Belt Citations 30 Child Restraint Citations 1 Total Citations 34 Total Written Warnings 8 Most motorists know safety belts save lives, but some ignore their safety and that of their families by neglecting to use safety belts and child restraint devices. These patrols reinforce the occupant protection message by focusing on those who ignore the law. Lives can be saved if people simply “buckle up!” This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
WANTED ON WARRANT (VC) H21-4359 Time: 1:18 pm Location: McFerren Park Hoopeston Arrestee: Longest, Keaton G (M) (24) of Milford IL Details: Officers observed a subject whom they knew had a Vermilion County Warrant for Failure to Appear. Subject was taken into custody, transported to HPD processed. Then was later released after posting the required bond. New court date set for Vermilion County Courthouse in October.

PEDESTRIAN: 58-year-old male of Danville, IL (Deceased)
VEHICLE: Unit 2- 2016 Gray Hyundai Elantra
DRIVER: Unit 2- Noah M. Gordon, 19-year-old male of Georgetown, IL
PRELIMINARY: A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: The pedestrian was walking northbound in the lane of travel on IL-1 just south of Interstate 74. Unit 2 was traveling northbound on IL-1 just south of Interstate 74 and struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased. The driver of Unit 2 was uninjured. The Vermillion County Coroner will release the name of the deceased once next of kin notifications are made. The traffic crash investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.

Ms. Hinton was located and arrested and transported to PSB to await arraignment.
Criminal Damage, Unlawful acts Constituting Disorderly Conduct H21-4299 Time: 4:25pm Location: 800 block of S 4th St. Cited: Samantha J. Palomo (F) (28) of Hoopeston Details: HPD officers responded to the above location in reference to verbal argument Ms. Palomo was given two city citations with notice to appear in Hoopeston City Court.
Warrant Arrest (19CM123) out of Shelby County H21-4317 Time: 10:47pm Location: Parkview Court Arrested: Carrie A. Arce (F) (43) out of Hoopeston Details: HPD Officers were out with Ms. Arce at the above time and location and a computer check showed Ms. Arce to have a warrant out of Shelby County for Failure to appear for stolen property. Ms. Arce was transported to HPD where she was processed and posted bond and was released with a court date to appear in Shelby County Court.
Theft (Over $10,000) Vehicular Invasion, Disorderly Conduct H21-4312 2021-7774 Time: 9:49pm Location: 800 Block of E Chestnut St. Arrested: Mark D. Caddel Jr. (M) (24) of Milford Details: HPD Officers Responded to the above location in reference to a stolen vehicle. Mr. Caddel was found matching the description of the man who stole the vehicle. Mr. Cadell was transported to HPD and processed and transported to the Public Safety Building.
Attorney General Kwame Raoul today announced a Danville man was sentenced to
96 years in prison for murder and dismembering and concealing the body of a Danville woman.
In July, a Vermilion County jury found Ocheil Keys, 30, of Danville, guilty of first-degree murder, dismembering a human body and concealment of a homicidal death in the murder of Barbara Rose, 50, of Danville. Vermilion County Circuit Court Judge Nancy Fahey today sentenced Keys to 60 years in prison for one count of first degree murder, a total of 30 years in prison for two counts of dismembering a human body and a total of six years in prison for three counts of concealment of a homicidal death. The sentences will run consecutively.
"While this sentence in no way makes up for the loss that Barbara Rose's friends and family have experienced, I hope that it provides some healing and relief," Raoul said. "This sentence underscores the importance of partnerships between state and local law enforcement agencies. I appreciate the collaboration of the Vermilion County State's Attorney's office and the Danville Police Department, which were essential in obtaining some justice for Barbara Rose's loved ones. "
On Oct. 22, 201 7, Keys shot and killed Rose, his longtime girlfriend. After telling Rose's family and friends that she left the state, Keys attempted to conceal the murder by burning Rose's body in an abandoned house. When that was unsuccessftll, Keys dismembered Rose's body in an attempt to hide it. Following an intensive week-long missing persons investigation, investigators from the Danville Police Department found Rose's body in a car owned by Keys' mother.
The Attorney General 's office prosecuted the case in cooperation with Vermilion County State's Attorney Jacqueline M. Lacy's office.
State's Attorney Lacy thanked the Danville Police Department and Attorney General Kwame Raoul' office for their efforts in this case and reaffirmed that, "violent offenders in Vermilion County will not be able to avoid being held accountable for their heinous acts." Lacy further stated that "We are committed to seeking appropriate penalties for violent criminal acts."
Deputy Bureau Chief Jonathan McKay and Assistant Attorney General Dan Weiler handled the case for Raoul's Criminal Prosecutions and Trials Assistance Bureau.

Traffic Accident (PD) H21-4254 Time: 08:15 AM Location: S 4th St & E Maple St Hoopeston Unit 1: 2002 Dodge Dakota driven by Nora S Mann (F) (25) of Hoopeston Unit 2: 2004 Buick Sedan driven by Debra S Winters (F) (65) of Hoopeston Details: Unit 1 was travelling south bound on S 4th St approach the back of Unit 2 at the stop sign of S 4th St/E Maple. Unit 1 stated they applied brakes but could not stop. Unit 1 struck Unit 2 still unable to stop Unit 1 steered into stop sign on Northside of the intersection to slow the moving Dakota to a stop. Both Units insured, No injuries reported, and no Citations.
Breach of peace constituting Disorderly Conduct (city) H21-4274 Time: 5:39 PM Location: 300 blk of East Penn Arrested: Tarah F Hinton(42)(F)of Hoopeston Details: Officers were called to the above location for a report of female being out of control. Ms. Hinton was arrested and transported to HPD for processing and later released with a City Notice to Appear..
On August 31, 2021, Anthony Chandler was sentenced by Associate Judge Mark Goodwin to five (5) years in the Illinois Department of Correction for the offense of Possession of
Methamphetamine, a Class 3 Felony. Pursuant to the Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity (SAFE-T) Act recently passed by the legislature, a Class 3 Felon is no longer subject to mandatory supervised release (i. e., parole) upon release from prison.
On July 14, 2020, Officer Douglas of the Hoopeston Police Department was on patrol in the area of W. Penn St. and 2nd Ave. in Hoopeston. He observed a number of individuals who appeared to be arguing and fighting. Officer Douglas knew one of those individuals to be the Chandler.
Chandler was detained while Officer Douglas was conducting his investigation. Chandler was subsequently searched and methamphetamine was located in his pants pocket.
"We are thankful for the hard work of Hoopeston Police Department and all the efforts taken in order to ensure safety of the community," stated State's Attorney Jacqueline Lacy.

Ages from today’s cases were: 33 under the age of 20; 42 were between 20 and 49; 25 were over the age of 50.
WASHINGTON – The U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced today that in observance of the LaborDay holiday, the SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center will be closed on Monday, Sept. 6 and will resume operations on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 9 a.m. SBA established the Center for businesses, homeowners, renters and nonprofit organizations in any of the declared Illinois counties to apply for low-interest disaster loans for their damages caused by the Aug. 12, 2021 flooding.
Businesses and residents can meet with SBA representatives one-to-one to get answers to their questions and help with submitting loan applications. The window for disaster survivors to take advantage of the opportunity to visit the Center is closing. The Center ceases operations on Thursday Sept. 9 at 4 p.m.

The disaster declaration covers Ford County and the adjacent counties of Champaign, Iroquois, Kankakee, Livingston, McLean, and Vermillion in Illinois which are eligible for both Physical and Economic Injury Disaster Loans from the SBA.
“Businesses and private nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace disaster-damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets,” said SBA’s Illinois District Director Robert Steiner.
For small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations, the SBA offers Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL)to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. EIDL Loan assistance is available regardless of whether the business suffered any physical property damage.
“Loans up to $200,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for loans up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property,” said Kem Fleming, director of SBA’s Field Operations Center East in Atlanta.
Applicants may be eligible for a loan amount increase up to 20 percent of their physical damages, as verified by the SBA for mitigation purposes. Eligible mitigation improvements may include a safe room or storm shelter, sump pump, French drain, or retaining wall to help protect property and occupants from future damage caused by a similar disaster.
Interest rates are as low as 2.855 percent for businesses, 2 percent for nonprofit organizations, and 1.563 percent for homeowners and renters, with terms up to 30 years. Loan amounts and terms are set by the SBA and are based on each applicant’s financial condition.
Applicants may also apply online using the Electronic Loan Application (ELA) via SBA’s secure website at DisasterLoanAssistance.sba.gov/ela/s and should apply under SBA declaration # 17112 before the filing deadline.
Disaster loan information and application forms may also be obtained by calling the SBA’s Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 (800-877-8339 for the deaf and hard-of-hearing) or by emailing DisasterCustomerService@sba.gov. The filing deadline to return applications for physical property damage is Oct. 22, 2021. The deadline to return economic injury applications is May 23, 2022

VEHICLE: Unit 1- 2005 Silver Mercury Milan
Unit 2- 2013 Black Cadillac
DRIVER: Unit 1- 47-year-old male of Kankakee, IL (Deceased)
Unit 2- 37-year-old male of Kankakee, IL (Deceased)
PRELIMINARY: A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling westbound on Illinois Route 17 at 11000 West Road. Unit 2 was traveling eastbound at the same location. For unknown reasons Unit 1 crossed the centerline into the path of Unit 2, striking Unit 2 head on. The impact caused Unit 1 and Unit 2 to catch on fire. The driver of Unit 1 and Unit 2 were pronounced deceased on scene. There is no further information available at this time.

We are reporting 39 new cases (one resident in their 80s, two in their 60s, six in their 50s, one in their 40s, six in their 30s, seven in their 20s, five teens, six grade-school-aged children, three pre-schoolers, and two infants), and 61 released, which brings us to a total of 11,517 positive cases.
We have lost a total of 163 Vermilion County residents to COVID-related deaths since this pandemic began.
There are currently 31 Vermilion County residents with COVID hospitalized. There are currently 254 active COVID cases in the county.
We are aware of seven Vermilion County residents who have become reinfected with COVID since June 1.
Of the 39 cases being reported today, three of them told us they have been fully vaccinated. As part of the interview process, our contact tracers ask each person who tested positive whether they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
