Vermilion County New Case Counts

10/25 – 10/29:  We had 235 new cases and 260 were released.  Of the 235 new cases, 14 were vaccinated.  We currently have 16 people hospitalized.  Two cases were breakthrough cases and zero were reinfections.

88 cases – Under the age of 20

48 cases – Ages 50 and above

We were informed of 4 additional deaths this week:  A gentlewoman in her 30s, a gentlewoman in her 50s, a gentleman in his 70s, and a gentleman in his 60s.  Our thoughts go out to their friends and family.

Details: Hoopeston Fire Department was called to the above location for smoke coming from the basement. There were no report of injuries or damages at time of call.

Vermilion County Farm Bureau is once again taking orders for their Holiday Food Sales. The items available include two local farm products. Both Farm Bureau members and non-members can order.

Featured on the food orders are boneless hams from Leiding’s Meats – a maple-cured, smoked Bavarian-style ham that averages 5½ lbs. These hams from our local award-winning meat supplier are perfect for your holiday parties or family Christmas dinner.

Another local product is T. Bee’s Honey. This honey comes for the honey bee hives on the Toby Brown farm, growers of Lingley Brothers Sweetcorn. This honey is considered “raw,” meaning that it hasn’t been heated or processed. There are pint and half-pint jars available.

A variety of nuts and candies are on the order forms, including pecans, mixed nuts, cashews, chocolate covered almonds or cashews, praline pecans and dried apricots.

Alcoholic Containers Prohibited in Public Place, Disobeying Police

Cited: Linsey Warner (F)(33) of Hoopeston

Details: HPD Officers Noticed Ms. Warner drinking from an open alcohol container. Officers also advised her that it was illegal to be drinking in public and she continued to do so. Officers also noticed her pulling on vines from a building and officers asked her to stop she did not. Ms. Warner was given two citations and was released with a notice to appear in Hoopeston City Court.

Arrested: Blake M Meehan(21)(M)of Hoopeston

Details: HPD officers were dispatched to the above location for a Noise complaint. Officers located Mr. Meehan and a computer search showed him to have an active warrant from Vermilion County. Mr. Meehan was arrested and taken to HPD for processing and later transported to PSB by Vermilion County Deputy.

WHERE:                   Interstate 74 westbound at Milepost 203, Vermilion County

WHEN:                      Oct. 26, 2021 at approximately 9:22 p.m.

VEHICLE:                Unit 1 – 2012 Kenworth Truck Tractor Livestock Semi-Trailer

DRIVER:                   Unit 1 – Sebastian Gilbert-More, a 30-year-old male from Portland, IN – Uninjured

PRELIMINARY:     Preliminary investigative details indicate the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling westbound on Interstate 74 at Milepost 203 when a fire started near the drive axles.  The driver of Unit 1 pulled to the right shoulder.  The fire spread to the front of the livestock trailer.  The trailer was loaded with 153 adult pigs. Due to the incident, 38 of the pigs died and 115 were off-loaded to a replacement livestock trailer and removed from the scene.  The driver of Unit 1 was not injured. No further information will be disseminated at this time.

Carle will begin offering the Johnson & Johnson and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine booster doses to qualifying individuals beginning Saturday, Oct. 30. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) expanded the use of a booster dose for these COVID-19 vaccines in eligible populations.

Carle will offer booster options throughout the clinical service area.

Champaign County: The vaccine clinic at Kohl’s Plaza in Champaign will begin administering the Moderna booster Saturday, Oct. 30, in addition to the currently approved Pfizer booster.

Vermilion County: Patients in Vermilion County can schedule an appointment at a Danville clinic - J&J boosters will be available on Tuesday and Thursday; Moderna boosters will be available on Wednesday and Friday. All Carle booster clinic appointments can be scheduled through MyCarle or on Carle.org.

McLean and Woodford Counties: Patients in McLean and Woodford counties are encouraged to contact their Primary Care provider to schedule an appointment. Johnson & Johnson will be made more readily available in more targeted opportunities throughout the service area. Patients in McLean County can also call (309) 268-5200 to schedule an appointment.

Richland County: Patients in Richland county are encouraged to contact their Primary Care provider to schedule an appointment.

“We are excited to offer these booster vaccinations to qualifying patients in order to ensure the best protection against COVID-19,” Robert Healy, MD, chief quality officer said. “We have seen success in administering the current approved Pfizer booster and continue to follow CDC guidance as we work to limit the spread of infection in our communities.”

The Moderna booster is available 6 months after completion of the primary series for patients:

·        Aged 65 and older

·        Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings

·        Age 18+ who work or live in high risk setting

·        Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions

The Johnson & Johnson booster is available at least 2 months after completion of the single-dose vaccine for those 18 years of age and older, without limitation.

Those wishing to schedule their appointment can do so through their MyCarle account and on Carle.org.

“As we move into the colder months and gatherings start moving indoors, it’s incredibly important to make sure you are maximizing your protection against COVID-19,” Dr. Healy said. “With cold and flu season approaching, I want to encourage everyone to take all the necessary steps to keep yourself and your loved ones healthy and limit the spread of the virus.”

The CDC has also recommended that each of the available COVID-19 vaccines can be used as 'mix and match' doses in eligible individuals following the completion of primary vaccination series with a different available COVID-19 vaccine.

As the most researched medical offering in history, the COVID-19 vaccine has proven to be safe and effective. It is important for everyone to get vaccinated to limit the spread of infection and reduce the opportunity for the COVID-19 virus to mutate in the future.

Carle is collaborating with local public health departments throughout the region to ensure everyone who qualifies for a booster vaccine has access. Booster recipients should bring their COVID-19 vaccine card to appointments if possible.

Vermilion County New Case Counts

Today’s Reported Cases:  We had 247 new cases and 208 were released.  Of the 247 new cases, 1 was vaccinated.  We currently have 14 people hospitalized.  Zero cases were breakthrough cases and zero reinfections.  Many of these cases came from our Surge Center and we don’t get their reports until after they have been released from isolation.  They are contact traced fully by the surge center and then considered an add and release by the time we report them.  This is why it appears that we have a huge number to report this go round.  The surge center usually only handles adults unless part of a household, so teens and younger are usually handled by our local contact tracers.

We do have an additional death to report, a gentlewoman in her 40s.  Our thoughts go out to her family and friends.  This brings our total deaths to 196.

Traffic Accident, Operating Uninsured Vehicle, No Valid Plates H21-5281

Unit #1: 95 GMC Sierra driving by Chelsey Langenfeld (F) (28) of Clarence, IL

Unit #2: 96 Jeep Cherokee parked and owned by Diana Vermiler of Hoopeston

Details: Unit #1 was traveling south on S 6th Av. When the driver attempted to turn east on W Washington, she struck the parked and unoccupied Unit #2. Arrow ambulance responded to the call however no one was transported. Traffic citations and traffic court date was given to the driver of Unit #1.

Driving While License Suspended, Operating Uninsured Vehicle H21-5259

Arrested: Candido Medina (M) (23) of Hoopeston

Details: HPD stopped the vehicle Mr. Medina was driving for a traffic violation. A computer check revealed she had a suspended driver’s license. She was arrested and taken to HPD to be processed. She was later released with traffic citations and a traffic court date.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Iroquois County Public Health Department (ICPHD) encourages individuals to have appropriate cancer screenings regularly. Self-screening for breast cancer includes breast self-exams to monitor for lumps, discharge, or other changes in skin or breast tissue. Individuals should work with a healthcare provider to have screenings including clinical exams and mammography. 
ICPHD partners with the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP) to promote breast and cervical cancer screenings and treatments. IBCCP provides free breast and cervical screenings for uninsured individuals between the ages of 21-64 

 Individuals may also qualify for assistance if: 
• They are over the ages of 64 and do not qualify for Medicare, have no insurance, are 
underinsured, or have a high deductible
• They have health insurance that doesn’t cover screenings or has a high deductible
• Younger individuals with symptoms or that are considered high risk
• Individuals already diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer may also receive free or low-cost treatment through this program

On October 19, 2021, Richard Ingram, formerly of Hoopeston, Illinois, pleaded guilty to

Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault, a Class X Felony. Ingram was sentenced to serve fourteen (14) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Ingram must serve 85% of his sentence and register as a sex offender for life. Ingram, after his sentence in prison, will serve a period of mandatory supervised release (i. e. parole) to be determined by Illinois Department of Correction between three (3) years to natural life.

During the plea, Circuit Judge Charles Hall heard evidence that Ingram was the paramour to the nine (9) year old victim's mother. The victim's mother entrusted Ingram to watch the victim while she was dying in 2019 and unable to care for her child. Ingram took advantage of the victim while he was in a position of trust and authority, and touched the sex organ of the victim in the summer of 2019.

"Sexual predators who prey on the children of Vermilion County will not be tolerated and my office will do everything in our power to ensure that such despicable transgressors are brought to justice and that our children are kept safe. We are grateful for the victim's bravery in this case and his cooperation with the investigation." Jacqueline Lacy, State's Attorney

Vermilion County’s annual holiday kick off, the Festival of Trees, will be returning to the David S. Palmer Arena November 13th – 17th, 2021. This year the event is being presented by Balloons Over Vermilion NFP, a local not-for- profit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of families and young people in our communities. Across the nation, we continue to see a downward trend of new cases and Vermilion County is following this trend as well with a few blips here and there.  Below is the graph with the red marker being the forecasted weekly case rate over the next month.  This will only happen if we continue to use the proper precautions that are currently in place.   I am hoping we continue to see this trend.

Vermilion County NEW Case Counts

Today’s Cases: We had 34 new cases and 62 were released.  Of the 34 new cases, 0 were vaccinated.  We currently have 13 people hospitalized.  Zero cases were breakthrough cases and zero reinfections.

6 cases – Ages 50 and above (only 1 case 70 and above)

We had three additional deaths, all gentlewomen; one in her 50s, one in her 60s, and one in her 70s.  Our thoughts go out to their friends and family.  This brings are total to 195.

Details: HFD was called out to smoke in the hallway and the smell of something burning inside an apartment. Firefighters determined that it was an electrical fire. There was no report of injuries or damage at the time of call.

Details: HFD was dispatched to an activated fire alarm for the old Nursing Home Section of the hospital. HFD arrived on scene and reported no visible fire or smoke. Upon further investigation it was determined to be a faulty smoke detector in the section of the complex. All units returned to service.

Details: HPD Officers responded to an altercation that took place at the above location. Ms. Shoulders was transported to HPD where she was processed and later transported to the Public Safety Building in Danville.

Location: 1000 Block of W Main St.

Arrested: James E Miller (M) (28) of Wellington

Details: HPD Officers conducted a Traffic Stop on Mr. Miller at the above location. Mr. Miller was transported to HPD where he was processed and later transported to the Public Safety Building.

We are reporting 123 new cases (one resident in their 90s, three in their 80s, five in their 70s, twelve in their 60s, thirteen in their 50s, fifteen in their 40s, twenty-two in their 30s, ten in their 20s, twenty-two teens, fifteen grade-school-aged children, two pre-schoolers, and three infants), and 118 released, which brings us to a total of 13,413 positive cases.

We have lost a total of 191 Vermilion County residents to COVID-related deaths since this pandemic began.

There are currently 330 active COVID cases in the county. There are currently 18 Vermilion County residents hospitalized with COVID, one of whom is fully vaccinated.

We are aware of eleven Vermilion County residents who have become reinfected with COVID since June 1.

Of the 123 cases being reported today, eleven of them told us they have been fully vaccinated. As part of the interview process, our contact tracers ask each person who tested positive whether they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Location: 719 W Elm St, Fast Lanes

Complainant: 41 year old Hoopeston female

Arrested: Joseph Cannon (49) (M) of Hoopeston

Details: HPD officers were called to the above location in reference to a domestic

disturbance. After speaking to both parties, Mr. Cannon was arrested and taken

to HPD to be processed. He was later transported to the PSB in Danville to

await arraignment.
