On September 24, 2026, Tichina Marshall (DOB: 7/23/1997), formerly of Danville, Illinois, 
pleaded guilty to Attempt First-Degree Murder, a class X felony, and was sentenced to 12 years 
in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by a term of 3 years mandatory supervised 
release. The defendant must serve 85% of the sentence. The plea and sentencing were presided 
over by Judge Karen E. Wall.
The People presented evidence that on May 26, 2025, officers with the Danville Police 
Department responded to the former Wendy’s on North Vermilion Street. Upon arrival, officers 
located the victim, who had been stabbed in the head, laying on the floor, bleeding 
uncontrollably, and nearly unconscious. During the investigation, detectives learned that the 
victim had been speaking with the manager in a small office area, when the defendant entered, 
armed with a knife, and told the victim, “I am going to kill you,” before striking the victim at 
least two times in the face and once on the top of the head with the knife. The defendant had 
previously threatened to kill the victim while they were working at Wendy’s one month prior to 
this incident. The crime was captured on surveillance video. The victim suffered a 3-centimeterdeep stab wound to the head and a fractured skull.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said, “I would like to thank the victim for cooperating with our 
office throughout the criminal justice process. While no sentence can undo the lasting effects
caused by this defendant, this prison sentence reflects the violent nature of this attack and the 
devastating injuries suffered by the victim.” She added, “We are grateful to the Danville Police 
Department and their Criminal Investigations Division for their thorough work in this case. Our 
office remains committed to seeking justice for victims of violent crime and holding offenders 
accountable for their actions."

On September 16, 2026, Hildrus Hancock (DOB: 6/9/1958), formerly of Danville, Illinois, 
pleaded guilty to Methamphetamine Possession, a class 3 felony, for an extended term sentence 
of 6 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, and to Domestic Battery, a class 4 felony, for 
a conviction. Following his term of imprisonment, the defendant will serve 6 months of 
mandatory supervised release. The plea and sentencing were presided over by Judge Karen E. 
Wall.
The People presented evidence that on April 1, 2026, officers with the Danville Police 
Department responded to May Street in Danville, after receiving a report that Hildrus Hancock 
had struck a male household member. Officers interviewed two witnesses who confirmed the 
defendant had struck the victim. The defendant fled the residence before officers arrived, but was 
located nearby a short time later. The defendant denied striking the victim. During a search 
incident to arrest, officers recovered 1.5 mg of a substance on the defendant’s person, which field 
tested positive for methamphetamine. The substance was sent to the Illinois State Police Crime 
Laboratory and results returned positive for methamphetamine.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said, “This sentence emphasizes our commitment to holding 
repeat offenders accountable. We appreciate the work of the Danville Police Department and the 
Illinois State Police Crime Laboratory in helping secure this conviction."

in need.

Details: HPD officers conducted a traffic stop at the above location. Mr. Henning was found to be driving on the above violation. He was issued an NTA for Vermilion County Court and was released from the scene.

One man was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead in Danville Saturday afternoon.

The Danville Police Department responded to the area of Memorial Bridge at 25 S. Gilbert Street at approximately 5:15 p.m. after a report of an unresponsive individual at the bottom of the bridge.

When officers arrived, they found a man lying near the riverbank. The Vermilion County Coroner later identified the man as 24-year-old Trevor Karuzis of Catlin. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Danville Police Department, the preliminary investigation has revealed no signs of foul play. However, the investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is scheduled for this week.

Dog Running at Large (510 ILCS 5/9) H26-5026 Time: 4:03 p.m. Location: Cited: Details: 600 Blk of North 5th St. Christopher Seiters (M) (34) of Hoopeston HPD officers responded to the above location for a dog running loose. Upon arrival, Mr. Seiters confirmed that the dog was his. Mr. Seiters was given a city citation for Hoopeston Municipal Court and was released from the scene. 

On September 18, 2026, State’s Attorney Jacqueline M. Lacy and Assistant State’s Attorneys 
Daniel Reynolds and Jake Klein, obtained a natural life sentence in prison for Quartez Jackson 
(DOB: 3/30/1999), formerly of Danville, Illinois, for the 2024 murder of 35-year-old Joseph A. 
Jones, also of Danville. Judge Mark S. Goodwin sentenced Jackson after he was found guilty of 
First Degree Murder by a Vermilion County Jury on May 21, 2026. 
The People presented evidence that on December 21, 2024, Danville Police responded to a call 
of multiple shots fired and a gunshot victim in the area of Williams Street in Danville. Officers 
located Joseph A. Jones, who had suffered 8 gunshot wounds, including one shot to the head. 
Witness statements provided information that a white sedan had fled the scene at a high rate of 
speed, and the victim was heard calling for help. Police received reports that the vehicle returned 
to the scene and the witness heard additional shots fired, then saw the male shooter running from 
the scene on foot. Surveillance cameras in the area captured the vehicle departing the scene, 
returning shortly thereafter, and departing the scene a second time.
During argument, State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said, “This defendant deserves a life sentence 
in prison because he executed Joseph Jones, a 35-year-old, unarmed man, in the street. This 
wasn’t just a murder. This was an execution to silence the victim and then the defendant’s plan to 
manipulate, intimidate and coerce those around him went into place so that he could try to 
exonerate himself.”
During a victim impact statement, victim Joseph Jones’sister stated to the defendant, “I want 
you to understand that your actions did not just take Joseph from us. They changed all of our 
lives forever.” She added, “I am asking for justice – not because a sentence can bring my brother 
back, but because his life mattered.”
Prior to handing down the sentence to natural life in prison, Judge Mark S. Goodwin described 
the murder as “savage, unrestrained, violent activity.”

 – Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced an East Lynn, Illinois man who pleaded
guilty to sexually assaulting a child and possessing child sexual abuse material was sentenced to 
50 years in prison. The case is part of Raoul’s ongoing work, in collaboration with federal law 
enforcement agencies and local law enforcement officials throughout Illinois, to apprehend 
offenders who download and trade child sexual abuse material online.
Antonio Miranda, 35, was sentenced in Vermilion County Circuit Court to 50 years in prison 
after pleading guilty to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one count of 
producing child sexual abuse material, both Class X felonies.
“The sexual abuse of a child is one of the most heinous crimes, and this guilty plea is the next 
step in holding this predator accountable,” Raoul said. “Survivors and their families deserve to 
find justice as they heal from the trauma of child exploitation. My office’s Internet Crimes 
Against Children Task Force will continue to collaborate with law enforcement at all levels and 
throughout the state to ensure individuals responsible for this abuse are held accountable.”
In May 2024, following an investigation by Raoul’s office and the Illinois State Police, Raoul’s 
investigators joined officers from the Vermilion Metropolitan Enforcement Group and the
Hoopeston Police Department to conduct a search of Miranda’s residence on the 41400 block of 
Main Street in East Lynn. He was taken into custody and charged after investigators discovered 
evidence of sexual assault of a child and production of child sexual abuse material.
Raoul’s office co-prosecuted this case with the Vermilion County State’s Attorney
Jacqueline Lacy’s office.
“This is a serious violation of the trust and innocence of children. While no sentence can undo 
the trauma the victims have endured, this prison sentence reflects the justice and accountability 
that must follow when children are exploited and victimized.” Lacy said. “I am grateful for our 
continued partnership with the Attorney General’s Office. I would also like to thank all of the 
partners involved in ensuring this predator was brought to justice. Our thoughts remain with the 
victims and their family, and it is our hope that this sentence gives them a sense of closure as 
they continue to navigate the lasting impact of these horrific crimes.”

On September 11, 2026, Darron Brandy, Jr. (DOB 4/18/1992), formerly of Danville, Illinois, 
pleaded guilty to the charge of Residential Burglary, a class 1 felony, and was sentenced to 5 
years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Following his term of imprisonment, the 
defendant will serve 12 months of mandatory supervised release. The plea and sentencing were 
presided over by Judge Mark S. Goodwin.
The People presented evidence that on May 29, 2026, Danville Police Department was 
dispatched to a reported residential burglary on Cleveland Street in Danville. Officers made 
contact with the victim who stated she had seen the suspect run out of her residence. The victim 
told police the door was left open and the door knob had been broken off. The victim’s 
engagement ring, valued at $2,000, and other rings, were missing from the residence. Police later 
located Darron Brandy, who had the rings in his pocket. The stolen jewelry was returned to the 
victim.
Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said, "This conviction holds the defendant 
accountable for committing a residential burglary, a crime that undermines the safety and 
security of our citizens. I would like to thank the Danville Police Department for quickly 
apprehending this defendant and recovering the victim's stolen property.”

We are writing today to provide an important update regarding our varsity football program and the remainder of the 2026 season.

Over the course of the season, our football team has faced an unusually high number of injuries while also relying heavily on a very young roster. After careful consideration and consultation with school administration, coaching staff, and medical personnel, we have determined that we do not currently have enough healthy student-athletes available to safely field a varsity team this week.

As a result, we will be forfeiting our Friday game against   Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin.

To ensure that our senior student-athletes have the opportunity to be recognized and celebrated, we will designate the September 18 game as our Senior Night. We still have concerns about player safety and health, but we look forward to honoring the dedication, commitment, and contributions of our seniors alongside their families, teammates, coaches, and supporters.

Following the Momence game, we will forfeit the remaining contests on our varsity football schedule for the 2026 season. This difficult decision reflects our responsibility to protect our students and to avoid placing them in situations that could compromise their health and safety. It also allows us to be fair and equitable to all groups involved in our game-day experience, including our cheerleaders, marching band members, families, opponents, and community supporters.

We understand that this news will be disappointing to many. Our student-athletes, coaches, and supporters have invested tremendous time, effort, and passion into this season. However, we firmly believe this course of action is in the best interest of our students and our school community.

As we look ahead to Homecoming Week on October 9, we are actively exploring opportunities to provide a community event that evening. More information will be shared with the community once plans have been finalized. 

We appreciate the understanding, support, and encouragement our community continues to show our students. The resilience, character, and determination demonstrated by these young people throughout this challenging season have been remarkable, and we remain committed to providing them with a positive and safe athletic experience.

Details: Hoopeston Fire Dept., Hoopeston Police Dept, and Arrow responded to the above area for a reported residence on fire. Rossville Fire Dept. was requested to assist on scene. Upon arrival, the fire was contained and extinguished with no injuries reported. All units cleared the scene.
